SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Tachyon Drag Interaction: Capable of interacting with tachyonic particles in such a way that it experiences drag, enabling potential applications in various exotic technologies.
  • Molecularly Stable: the chemical structure of the alloy is more rigid than most metals. This results in a less chemically reactive material with a very high melting point.
STRENGTHS
  • Tachyon Drag: The material can generate significant resistance in the presence of tachyon flows, enabling its use in exotic applications, such as thrust or detection.
  • Chemistry Tooling: an added bonus to this material is its chemical inertness. High melting point and low reactivity makes this metal ideal for chemical containment and mechanisms.
WEAKNESSES
  • Poor Combat Protection: being a metal with strong, rigid molecular bonds has the side effect of making it brittle. Thermal shock from energy weapons can create stress fractures and kinetic impacts can often exceed sheering limits.
  • A Craftsman's Nightmare: this material is not easily workable. FDM printing is next to impossible because of the high heat resistance. Stock removal processes such as turning, milling or grinding are still doable despite the rigid molecular structure. However, this can take a long time and requires extreme skills. Field repairs are quite often a write-off.
DESCRIPTION
Dornean Inconel is a proprietary advanced alloy developed by the Dornean Braha'ket Fleetworks Conglomerate through the meticulous study and reverse engineering of ancient and salvaged solar sailer technology, such as those once employed by Count Dooku and other Separatist dignitaries during the Clone Wars. These sailers achieved propulsion by interacting with tachyon streams, a phenomenon that intrigued Dornean physicists for decades.

Unlike traditional materials, which allow tachyons to pass through uninhibited, the sails—and now Dornean Inconel—are able to experience drag from tachyon particles, much like sails catching the wind. This unusual property allowed Confederacy-era solar sails to be pushed through space at superluminal speeds. Dornean engineers sought to replicate and refine this capability.

The result was Dornean Inconel—a light but fragile alloy with exceptional tachyonic interaction properties. While its brittleness limits its use in combat scenarios, its ability to "catch" tachyons has made it invaluable in experimental propulsion systems, as well as various other unique applications. Dornean engineers challenge themselves to mechanically reinforce the brittle material to make it useful in more stressful applications, to varying degrees of success.

The alloy remains one of the most jealously guarded breakthroughs of the Dornean Conglomerate's modern technological renaissance, and the synthesizing process is extremely proprietary. It is considered a classified material and a trademarked substance under Dornean law. Even if one acquires the material through theft or salvage, it is next to impossible to replicate the formula for making this alloy without the knowledge of Dornean scientists.
