So don't rush me

I see you eyeing those shops. I see your game. He smirked. Trying to get me to buy you something, huh?

"Well you know.. a girl's gotta get the good somehow." They both laughed at the teasing easily. "But really you've already done enough. That ship had to cost a pretty penny."

They walked by a large fountain and Katarine glanced into the water, noting that several people had thrown coins or ornaments in for wishes. When she saw their reflection in the water her eyes widened. Why was she grinning like a fool?

"Being a Jedi is so different now. I don't think I'll ever get used to shopping and wearing civilian clothes and owning homes."
She laughed, but wasn't judging the Jedi who did that of course. Katarine was just trained during the old days.

Connel just smirked and nodded at her thanks. The ship didn’t cost him a credit. He noticed the grin as well. Was she just enjoying the reflection, or the moment? The fact that they were still holding hands? Don’t jump in and save them, that’s just our reflection. Another light tease.

When she spoke of how things were different, he listened, but this was what he knew. All he knew. He knew of others who understood though.

Is it bad that times change? I mean sure, you can’t throw a stick and not have it hit someone attune to the Force nowadays... He smirked, was it just a joke or a conviction of the age? ... but my mother and father… they lived in those times as well… they found each other… even back then sometimes Jedi were able to retire…

I've made that mistake before

Katarine laughed and pushed him on the shoulder. It was amazing how even the smallest things seemed a lot funnier when he was around. Maybe she hadn’t done this for so long that she had forgotten what it felt like, or maybe this was something new. Either way it was an odd sensation to laugh so easily and grin so fully.

“Now retirement… that sounds like a welcome change. I might never get used to shopping but I could certainly get used to that.”

She laughed again, then wondered what retirement would even look like?

“What would you do if you retired anyway? Raise a whole family of Busters?”

As her reaction to his tease was obviously welcoming, it was a welcome one. Oddly easy it was, to joke around with her like this. Wait, did I…

Yeah, Father would have been able to answer better than I, but you sounded like him.

Okay, anyway, it made him wonder if they had truly become that comfortable, or if he had a sense of humor he didn’t know about. Perhaps there was something about her presence that brought out a side of him he hadn’t fully explored. Or maybe, just maybe, he was more like his Father than he’d ever realized. Either way, the moment felt strangely comforting, as if they had found a new level of connection.

Her thoughts on retirement were surprising. When she asked him; the subject caught him off guard. I really don’t know. Haven’t had the circumstance, or person to think about it.

Was he talking about her? Maybe. Who really knows.

I mean… my Father had a trust fund set up for him before he was born, and never used it for eight hundred fifty years. That’s a lot of interest. So he and my mother lived off of residual income from the money brought in from the company he funded… I guess she funds now… so there is that… but I’m still a Vanagor… you know? Too ridiculously serious about being a hero… I guess.

.....but I'm still a Vanagor… you know? Too ridiculously serious about being a hero… I guess.

Katarine smiled and nodded. She knew that all too well. Connel bled for his job and for others. It was deep routed into him to be a hero, and in fact it seemed like an honor the entire family partook in. There was a quiet pride there in the service of others that she felt somewhat envious of. It was as if he knew his place in the galaxy, though she could only imagine the soul searching that had taken him.

"I could picture you out on some backwater world, raising a family, but also volunteering as a fireman or something because life would get too boring if you weren't climbing trees and rescuing people from burning buildings."

She chuckled. This wasn't a bad thing, but it was truly who he was. She knew deep down he would never be content unless he could put the mask on at least sometimes. It would always call to him.

"Honestly lately I feel like I've had a mini retirement. Hooking up with The Path, meeting you, meeting Buster. It's all been refreshing."

As she teased about how she saw him rescuing people from trees and burning buildings, Connel took his free hand, made a fist up against his hip, stood in a wide stance and flashed a WIDE toothy grin to the sky. I am “hero” man.

Blinking and throwing up an eyebrow as if to say “Did I really just do that?” he looked around.

I think that encouraging, experiencing and actually enjoying downtime when you get it is important. It’s what my father learned to do. I wasn’t planning on attending that dinner where we met, but I’m glad I did…. Offering a sincere sweet smile, he let her react before saying…

If I didn’t I wouldn’t have eaten such good food… Another silly tease, hopefully she would pick up on the wink. He of course was happy to have met her. Speaking of food. Is this the restaurant in front of us?]/COLOR]

This love could be so much more

Katarine laughed, a little startled and surprised to see his 'hero pose.' Who would have thought that Connel Vanagor could loosen up like this. She laughed even harder that it surprised himself as well.

When he said he was happy to have gone to the dinner where they met she nodded, and when he gave his fake reason she pushed him gently.

"Well I'm glad I went.... because I met Buster." She stuck her tongue out at him.

Speaking of food. Is this the restaurant in front of us?

"Yes it is." She pulled him inside. The interior was quiet and brightly lit, with splashes of colors on the walls and beautiful portraits of boats and other water vehicles. Katarine loved sailing and sometimes she enjoyed just sitting on the dock and watching the boats as they sailed by. The hostess sat them at a nice booth and sat some water in front of them, promising to return soon to take their order.

Katarine opened her menu, though by now she had been here a few times and knew what she wanted. "Get whatever you like. It's on me today. It's not as nice as a ship but I gotta start chipping away at my debt to you somehow." She grinned at him, knowing he would never make her pay for that ship but she also wanted to do nice things for him too.

When she pulled him into the restaurant, he made like he was being physically yanked, more for those onlookers who might see. Funny how he never acts like this otherwise.

The place was nice, not that Connel was really paying attention to the surroundings or ambience. He was hungry, and you only go to tourist traps for the environment. Then again, maybe this was one. Who knows.

When they sat and she was telling him how it was on her, he shook his head. Forgive me for saying this, but you have enough to deal with, in regards to your brother. You need to be able to pay starport fees and the like, so save your credits and get what YOU like, just make suggestions. It wasn’t about doing nice things or paying back, it was practical… that and his mother would kill him if she knew he went on a first date with a woman (and she would call this a “date”) and she paid.

... and you don’t owe me anything… don’t worry… it may have been thoughtful, sweet, and wonderful, but it’s the way he was brought up. He was blessed, and could help others. So why not?.

She smiled at him when he mentioned starport fees and other fees she had to contend with. It was true she already had to pay damages to the hospital once for an outburst Dax had. Katarine did not have a ton of money, but she had never needed it really. Her former husband had been a pirate before joining the Jedi and she imagined that account might still be active the way Caltins was, but out of pride, or hurt, or just stubbornness she had never checked. She hadn't considered herself a wife for very long and in reality even though there wasn't an official divorce she figured running off and leaving her a letter was close enough.

"Thank you." She glanced down at her menu, wondering what type he would like. "There is a berbesian crab salad that has a wonderful dressing with it. The firaxan shark fillet is also really good. Oh and they have a few different wines that are also nice and some teas."

Clearly she had come a few times, mostly to escape her twin.

He was glad that she didn’t put up much of an argument, not that she probably would have, she had enough to worry about. While he didn’t think she would, he could set up a prepayment of some of her fees if she asked. That was another conversation though for another time. He hoped she wouldn’t need to rely on that option, but it was good to have a backup plan. For now, he would let her focus on the immediate concerns, like not having to think about anything but being a grounding sensation for her … brother… and revisit the topic later if necessary.

Looking at the menu, he had other ideas.

I think I will be doing the crab, but the roll… I am in the mood for wedges. Unless you were looking to share? Up to her.

I don’t drink, so… tea for me… oh wait… blue milk…

"Wedges sound good too."
She was glad he was finding some things he was interested in eating. "I think I'm going to do the crab salad and a side of fried calamari. Seems like a junk food type of day." Her good mood made it easier to choose something to eat. Generally Katarine was a picky eater and didn't consume a ton. That was part of why she looked slender and less muscular. The woman probably needed more protein but hey being frozen for a long time was hard on the muscles!

When he said he didn't drink she was surprised. It wasn't a bad thing, just not something she had expected. Of course she spent all her time in the underworld undercover so ordering a soda was a good way to blow your cover.

"Blue milk is good. They have a blossom iced tea too. I'm getting that. It's one of my favorites. It comes with a flower floating in it." That was silly but she enjoyed it none the less. Sometimes the simple things made you smile.

The waitress was hovering, clearly waiting to make sure they were ready before they approached.

When the server walked up, he looked at her and asked.

Do you serve seafood here? Holding up a hand chuckling. Kidding… it was her idea… sorry… I’ll have the crab roll with the wedges and a blue milk… could we also get a sampler app to share?

Katarine groaned in mock playful teasing of his 'dad joke' when the waitress came over. The waitress laughed and took down his order then asked what Kat wanted.

"I'll do the crab salad with a side of the calamari and a blossom iced tea."

The waitress jotted it down and left to go get that appetizer. Katarine rolled her eyes at Connel. "You know she's back there telling her coworkers how corny we are now." She grinned. "You better tip her well for that or I'm telling Buster you weren't on your best behavior today."

He shrugged when she faux-admonished him.

So? Might as well give her an easy table, right? Her demand that he tip well went without saying, unless she was TERRIBLE, she would get a good one already. Just being blessed and passing it along when you can. When the server was coming back with their drinks he blurted out. NO! I will not tell her about my doctor’s appointment! That’s private!

Not too loud so others could hear, but loud enough to catch the server off guard. He of course smirked as she left again.

As for Buster? As long as he gets headscratches and treats, I’m golden.

Katarine groaned and put her head in her hands. The waitress came over laughing at the pair of them. "I'm going to strangle you!" She spoke through her hands so her voice was slightly muffled.

As for Buster? As long as he gets headscratches and treats, I'm golden.

"He's always going to get lots of those. I've been cooped up here too long so I've been buying him treats and toys. No expense reports means I can go crazy with doggie stuff."

A few moments latter the server came out with the appetizers and some napkins and plates. Everything smelled delicious.

Appetizers came and went, and the server was soon coming back with dinner. The conversation had been easy and simple, nothing deep or convoluted. The server placed the dishes on the table, and the enticing aroma of the food filled the air. The two began to serve themselves, the conversation shifting to light-hearted comments about the meal. As they ate, the atmosphere remained relaxed, with occasional laughter punctuating the discussion.

This is nice

Who's to say if it's love or just attraction?

Tags: Connel Vanagor Connel Vanagor

The food was delicious and soon Katarine felt like she couldn't eat another bite. The conversation was light and fun all the way through, both of them laughing, smiling, or telling stories.

This is nice

"It is." She sat back in her side of the booth and smiled at him. This feeling was a new one for her. She had met men before who made her weak at the knees in a way that was lust filled and dangerous, but she hadn't ever connected to another person like she was now. Whatever was happening between them was clearly more than a physical connection. She wondered if she should bring it up and try to ask exactly what he thought was happening. Would that ruin it? Was it better to just let it be?

"I think you are wonderful Connel."
Wow that sounded sappy but it was the truth. Things felt comfortable and real and it felt like there was something deeper than all the childish stuff of the past. She felt herself blush and glanced away nervously, pushing her two-toned hair behind her ear.

Well, there it is.

She told him her feelings. The question is, was he feeling the same, or was this just something else? Did he really have the time for this? The time for her? He hesitated, unsure of how to respond. His mind raced with conflicting emotions, torn between the desire to reciprocate and the weight of his responsibilities. The silence stretched for a few moments, heavy with unspoken words, as he grappled with the uncertainty of his own feelings.

I feel the same way. I don’t know why, but ever since that night under the stars…

Yeah, she was blushing, he was downright embarrassed, not because he didn’t want to feel this way, but because he has no experience in this. For him, he had his work, he had his pare… his mother… and he had Buster. Why can’t he have this too?

He can.

Even if you don’t mean it the same way. I like this… He waved his fingers back and forth between them.

Only time will tell

She could see the hesitation in his eyes and she understood it. She had her own reservations about anything like this, but it was also impossible to deny that he felt different than her other friends did. Not that she had many to be honest, but this felt different than the ones she did have. She waited patiently, letting him work out his thoughts without pressure. He mentioned the night under the stars and she smiled, remembering it. He had been so easy to talk to and had saved her from spending the entire night alone and brooding. Perhaps she'd done the same for him too.

Even if you don't mean it the same way. I like this…

She blushed but didn't look away this time. She wasn't sure how she meant it, or really how he meant it either. Was this the time for the conversation? She supposed they were already having it, at least in a way. It wasn't the declaration of love conversation, even though she knew already that she did have love for him. She just wasn't certain if it should be romantic love. It wasn't quit right for that conversation yet but they needed to have some type of conversation to clarify what was going on.

Or did they even need that? It wasn't like either of them were running into anybody else's arms, at least that was the impression she got. She certainly was way too guarded to ever end up in a love triangle that was for sure, and he didn't seem like he had anybody else like this in his life. She supposed she shouldn't assume though. She should probably at least clarify what he meant by his feelings.

"Have you ever done something like this before? Like... "
she motioned between the two like he had. He of course had heard her story. He knew she'd been married and left and the toll it had taken, but Katarine wanted to understand him too. She wanted to understand his hesitancy and his feelings and his history.

She seemed to like what he was saying, and that made him smile sheepishly. He wasn’t “girl crazy” like his cousin Michael… who is liable to have something happen out of the blue and scare him at first. No, this was different. There was a feeling there. He felt a warmth in his chest, something he couldn’t quite explain but wanted to explore. It wasn’t just attraction; it was a connection, a spark that made him curious about what might come next.

When she asked him about his experience with this, he shook his head.

Never, always been either too busy or just unable to talk to people. He shrugged. Buster’s helped me a lot with that. Without him, I would not have been able to tell you… well… I can’t promise I’ll be the greatest thing, but… if something comes out of this?

He waved his fingers back and forth. I’ll do my best to keep that smile on your face all the time.

Wow that was cheesy.

Yeah, but I kind of like it.
