Name: District 9
Classification: District
Location: Denon
Affiliation: Galactic Republic
Population: 550,000
Demographics: 70% Human, 30% Misc
Points of Interest:
“For guns, you go to West Palpamore. For everything else you go to Eden.”

Eden: Divided into two wards, Eden is both a residential area as well as a shopping center. It was originally created as a prison, but this gargantuan building now holds 5,000 stores and a population of 20,000, who dwell in the apartments on the upper levels. Although Eden is considered low-class because of the lower income people who tend to frequent it, it remains the heart of the district, and a place of great commerce.

The Underground: For the people who didn’t like living on the surface, The Underground was a dangerous alternative. Shacks and makeshift homes make up the majority of the area, but there were places like restaurants and bars that filled in the in-between. It was better to avoid this place if you weren’t a part of the community, but there were always Red Wave members who were on the lookout for new blood and initiates.

Corrigan Nature Reserve: The only place in District 9 where you can see a bit of greenery, the Corrigan Nature Reserve is only second to Eden in importance. Countless people come here daily for the scenic walks, and not just that, there were campsites, and outdoor themed restaurants.

Liberty Stadium: Whether it was Grav-ball or Bolo-ball or whatever sport was out there, Liberty Stadium was the home of galactic champions. It was a truth that had started when District 9 first beat District 5 a century ago. Ever since then, you could never find a seat that wasn’t filled when the Rampaging Giants took the field. And it wasn’t just the Rampaging Giants, there was the Heavenly Kings, The Palpamore Saints, The East Liberty Titans, the list went on, and then there other teams that were slowly clawing their ways up from obscurity. District 9 was a sports town, and if Eden was the heart of the district, Liberty Stadium was everything else that kept the body alive.

Eddie & Barnum’s: The largest wholesale trade center in the district, Eddie & Barnum’s hosted trade shows of a different variety. Whatever tickled your fancy, you could probably find it here. And not just that, there were times when this interconnected four building structure, also played host to cosplay conventions and fashion shows. But it was mainly the goods why people traveled here.

East Palpamore: There are many valid complaints about District 9, but unemployment couldn’t possibly be one of them. East Palpamore was a section of the district that was still recovering from the events of five years ago. Although it remains abandoned, there is a large push by the government to rebuild this area and restore it to its former glory. Companies like Hatha Industries and Juneau, are leading the way in construction efforts, and many more start-up companies are on the rise to get in on the government contracts.

Heritage Cemetery: One of the few places in East Palpamore that wasn’t devastated in the purge of 840 ABY, Heritage Cemetery is the resting grounds of the Blessed 42. They were community leaders who had decided that enough was enough. They rolled up their sleeves and decided to take back their streets with their own hands, instead of relying on a government that was too corrupt to go after the criminals that were lining up their pockets. On the fourth day of a peace conference, tragedy struck however, and the 42 leaders were assassinated in a bombing that was pinned on the Rovanok Crime Family, although the Red Wave were the true suspects.

Justice was never brought to the Red Wave, but these 42 deaths sparked the purge of 840, that exterminated 80% of the criminal organizations in the district and drove the rest into the Underground where they still remain.

Other POI’s

Five Points Station: The largest spaceport in the district as well as a public transportation hub.

Temple 32: A temple built for the followers of The Dove, an archaic Serenno religion that has recently resurfaced in Coruscant and Denon.

Wild Cats: Famous strip club.

Lusha: Famous talent agency.

Teal Street: If there’s a big street race going on, it’s happening here.

The Triumph: A memorial dedicated to the people who died in the efforts to liberate East Palpamore from the criminal underworld. At its epicenter, lies a statue in honor of Nicolai Hovar, the savior who rescued the district from darkness.

Description:

Covered in buildings and skyscrapers, there was nothing that really separated District 9 from the other districts. If there was a difference, it lay in the culture. District 9 was a sports town, and not just sports, there was a growing culture that was springing up from the Corrigan Nature Reserve. People were abandoning the sameness of the city, and wishing for more places like Corrigan, where you could see greenery and wildlife, and although Corrigan remained the only place where you could get that, there were plans to beautify certain areas of East Palpamore that was currently under redevelopment.

In comparison to District 12, the crime in District 9 was abysmal. There was a time when the gangs and crime families ran this district, but they were chased into The Underground five years ago. Now peace and order reigns, although there are grumblings of certain politicians being in bed with certain criminals, they are the minority, and as long as the prosperity continues, people are willing to turn a blind eye.

History:
Before Nicolai Hovar united the district with an iron fist in 840, District 9 had always been a divided place. There were the divisions between human ethnic groups. Divisions between the species. Political beliefs, religions. There was always something that kept people at odds with each other.

But things began to change in 839.

In 839, the Red Wave came to Denon. They were a collection of Coruscant street gangs and cliques that were rumored to be under control of a female sith from Serenno. Like with Coruscant, the Red Wave wanted control of the streets, but unlike Coruscant, the way they went about getting them this time was very different.

Rather than take on the criminal organizations of Denon head-on, the Red Wave pitted them against each other. When they attacked the Mandalorian gangs, they planted evidence to make it seem like it was the Gamorreans. The Rovanok crime family? When they attacked them, they impersonated the League of Shadows, and the trickery and deceit only continued, as turf wars started to erupt all over the district.

Whatever balance there had been before was gone, and in its place was an anarchy that the government wasn’t capable of dealing with.

After civilian causalities continued to rise from the turf wars, a peace conference was decided on by the community leaders of several parts of the district. Forty-three people were chosen, including Nicholai Hovar, a rising politician, and a former Center-Striker for the Rampaging Giants.

As Nicholai Hovar gave a rousing speech for the different communities of the district to stop being at odds with each other and come together to help make the district a better place, a bomb ripped through peace conference, and Nicholai Hovar emerged as the only survivor.

Becoming a tragic hero overnight, Nicholai Hovar crushed his opponent in the next election for a spot on the Board of Directors, and he kept his promise to the people that voted him in. With the help of the planetary government, a purge began of all criminal organizations in the district.

It was a tough struggle, especially when the criminal groups came together in a last-ditch effort and formed a coalition and took over East Palpamore, but the government prevailed in the end.

In the aftermath, District 9 took a hardline approach to crime, and the district slowly became better because of it. The divisions that had once plagued the district, were slowly unraveling, and in its place, was a desire between all residents for a better tomorrow.

Although there are still some mysteries that remain in the district, like how the Red Wave escaped the purge, or how exactly did Nicholai Hovar survive that bomb blast, most residents would tell you that District 9 was on the road to a golden age like no other.

The economy was booming.

Unemployment was going down at record levels.

And most importantly, the Rampaging Giants were going on a historic winning streak.

“Respect your neighbor and obey the law.”

The only two things you needed to know to move to District 9.

Intent: Add another RP location to Denon. Give my character a specific place where he can call home. Backstory/bio related.

Alright, lets get to it.

Population: Slightly more populous than District 12
Not really a hard number. How many does District 12 have? Slightly more populous could mean 3 people instead of 1.

History: Nothing really happened here besides the purge of 840, so I'm leaving this blank as its optional. Can provide one though if its necessary.

I prefer a bit of history. This is like saying Australia is just a penal colony. Two paragraphs giving a broad overview are good enough, or you can just focus on the Purge of 840 if you feel this was a polarizing event.

I was avoiding numbers because I couldn’t get a good grasp of how big District 12 was, which was my reference. It could have been a district in a normal sense, or district could have been used as a replacement word for large city. Either way, everything is updated. Anything else?

Sorry for the delay. Seems to check out fine, although population seems low it is just a District so no biggie there.
