"We're approaching the source of the distress beacon."
Valery spoke through the comlink between her and her Padawan's X-wings. On their way back to Ossus from a small training adventure, the two had picked up on an emergency beacon activated by a currently unknown vessel. The message was being transmitted on all open frequencies, which was a rather peculiar thing. Typically, ships in need call for help from those they are affiliated with, but something had likely happened that called for immediate assistance, regardless of who would show up to provide it.
But Valery remained cautious — this region of the Galaxy housed many serious threats, most of which were hidden in the shadows. She had no idea what was waiting for them but she was ready to pull them back out at the first sign of trouble.
"Pulling out of Hyperspace now."
With the lever pulled back, the pair of X-wings jumped out into the open bit of space where the signal was coming from. Instantly, a large freighter appeared in front of them, and it looked like it had been hit by some kind of attack. There were large holes in the outer hull, fires on-board and its engines were completely disabled. But there was no sign of whoever caused it.
"This is rather strange — we'll have to approach with caution and see if we can get comms open with them."
