What people never seemed to realize about automated system is that they had no heart. They were cold, unfeeling, only versed in the practical realm of reasoning. Too bad.
Perhaps the Protectorate did not understand of the concept of a deadman's switch. Her datapad had been transmitting a constant frequency the moment she had pressed her digits against the on-screen button, arming the bomb but holding it on standby. The moment the bomb lost contact with the signal, it would go off. Thus, it was merely by blind luck that the ion disruption of her electronics did not, in fact, discharge the deuterium bomb as she had claimed, but only the tower bomb that had been encased. Tens of thousands of lives may have been lost. How careful.
Machines are merciless. So was Alice. The poor security guard had obviously failed to draw any weapon, and he was the perfect hostage. Using him as a shield, first against the electrostatic gel launchers, both bodies took a hit to the left shin, collapsing their legs. Alice took an additional hit to her right hand, which had been keeping contact with the datapad. The security guard took a hit right to the chest, knocking him out completely. With Verpine pistol drawn, the 'Rattataki' drew and aimed it under the unconscious man's armpit with her left hand and fired two consecutive, precise shots, claiming the lives of both drop troopers.
"Fallout," she called over her comm, momentarily forgetting it's transmitter had been disabled by the ionblast. It could be a while before it came back online.
Hobbling now, she whirled around, still hugging the guard to her body for use as a human shield. The terrorist then proceeded to shoot her way into one of the building's security office, laboriously dragging them both across the floor. One, two, three, four guards and a secretary fell to her Verpine pellets. Even though the administrative offices may not have had the most extensive arsenals in their closets, Alice did find riot gear and some of those handy dandy EMP guns. Oh, and she still had her bomb.
You can always make sure the job gets done correctly if you do it yourself.
