Desert Camping

Certainly Jessica was a Jedi that was not for everybody, regardless of any characteristics she might have. Sure, there were those Jedi that still fit, to varying extents, and hopefully [member="Jarael Belaerys"] would be one of them. She was ready to teach padawans to perform Force-powers in non-aggressive ways, so that they could have in mind that the Force should not be used for aggression. In fact, she found a little hypocritical that Jedi were trained to use the Force for defense and yet they only seemed to be trained in the more aggressive uses of powers, except for Force-healing and telekinesis. Just that there were those people who didn't feel that the Force should be trivialized, but she feels that not using the Force for aggression is best taught by teaching them non-aggressive uses. There were a few such powers she feels she could train the student of the day out there in the deserts of Ringo Vinda. Electric Judgment, and, of course, Force Light. But before she could head out in the deserts of that planet, with her motor home, built out of an old spaceport stair truck, loaded with their camping gear, she has to introduce herself to that student, while just outside the spaceport in Quendelton.

"I am Jessica Med-Beq, and tonight you will learn about Force-light and Electric Judgment, with possibly a few more powers if you want. We will head out to one of those camping sites in the desert"

When she was invited for this little adventure, the Arkanian was almost thinking about declining. But the free food was something that made her change her mind immediately, after all, she was bored and tired of the daily life in the Jedi Praexum, the girl want it to see more and learn more, Jarael was tired of training and meditating all day long with the other Knights and Padawans. As she approached the woman, the Arkanian was impressed with what her eye was seeing. Jessica was tall, even for a human, if she was one, blond with a powerful expression in her face, like that of woman hardened by countless battles and situations that she could not even dream how to start fully understanding them. The Jedi had impressive force users in their ranks, Jarael knew that pretty well, she saw that first hand in the siege of Commenor and that was enough to make her remember her old master saying how the dark side never was more powerful then the light. Standing in front of Jessica, the Offshoot bowed in a formal and respectful way, Jarael said in a calm tone of voice.

“It is my pleasure to be here. Thank you for having me.”

Little that [member="Jarael Belaerys"] knew was that they were headed towards a refugee camp set up as far away from their sources as Ringo Vinda. For this reason, the motor home contains medical supplies as well. And Jessica could also tell that Jarael had enough of this cloistered life she was hitherto living since Jarael last was seen among the Silvers. The Jedi Praxeum... they are very passive, and most of them live a rather cloistered life. Then again, their resources are much more limited, she thought, while realizing that medical stuff may as well be distributed. She also knew that there would be some power cells being drained. They are driving through an endless sea of dunes and she would be closing in on a concentration of sentient life, which would be a settlement of some sort, a town in an oasis or even the camp being set up. But its location did not match any of the settlements she knew on this planet. Just that she could also feel that emotions and tensions may well be running high in this camp, as the sun was setting over the camp while they were looking for a location to park the motor home among the dunes.

"We have arrived at the refugee camp. Let's start by collecting dead batteries"

Her eye moved around through the landscape, eagerly watching as all that splendor was unfolding before her very eyes. So calmly she watched all of that, no life of any sentient or even a settlement seemed to be anywhere near where they were going, which made her think how meaningless was all of that in worlds that evolved and had no need for any human life. Made her remember of a strange tale she once heard of a group of mynocks that evolved to become sentient, for the human tools left behind, they turned to the dark side and destroyed themselves with darkness and hate.

And as they arrived in the camp, Jarael joined with the others lining up. Listening to master Jessica talk about dead batteries, calmly she walked near someone else as they handed a dead battery over to her, making her look at that thing and wonder the use she could have for that. Once she had heard about using the Force to charge them, but that was more of a myth to her than anything else.

“I’m sorry to ask, master, but what shall we do with them?”

"I know that often Jedi frown upon Electric Judgment because its dark-sided counterpart is, in fact, one of the iconic uses of the dark side, and is therefore associated with anger and aggression, but Electric Judgment doesn't require any emotional input whatsoever. I'm aware that often padawans will hear about using the Force for non-aggressive ends, but this is the reason why I even want you to learn Electric Judgment for the purpose of recharging a power cell"

Sure I could always bore her with Maxwell equations, but it requires more mathematical skill than the average Jedi would possess. It's easy for a Jedi at my intellectual level to forget that others aren't at your level. It's just as easy to assume other people aren't at your intellectual level, but, despite the probabilities of it all, it's just as dangerous an assumption. However, the two sets of assumptions incur different hazards when made, Jessica thought, while [member="Jarael Belaerys"] collected a dead power cell. From the looks of it, it belonged to one of the medical droids. She needed to be acutely aware of her use of computational power, and, by the same token, to avoid abusing her mind if she knows she needs to use the Force some more. And yet, she knew that padawans had their Force-energy limits and she couldn't expect much from Jarael. She just couldn't expect Jarael to have much, if any, energy left once the Force-light lesson ends. So it's also a lesson in power control Jarael is having. Meanwhile, those refugees are suffering because the medical droids are used to capacity and waiting times are increasing sharply until that medical droid's power cell is recharged.

"Now, for the actual Electric Judgment lesson: visualize a bolt of lightning travelling from your fingers to the power cell"
