There's more than one way to be enslaved
The zones of Denon.
A colloquial term found in the mid and lower levels of Denon.

Sunlight Zone- The upper levels of Denon inhabited by the rich. These are levels with cloud cutter homes and huge terrace gardens.

Twilight Zone- The middle layer of Denon, this is where the natural light begins to fade. At noon, the light here will look as if it is early to late dusk. At best, they have light for five hours. At worst, it is only one. On top of the waning light, this is where the rain begins to get toxic. It is hardly noticeable at the top ten levels, but worsens as it goes down. This marks the border between what is commonly seen as the "respectable" levels of Denon.

The Midnight Zone- To those living in the sunlight and twilight zones, this is the last layer of Denon. Here, there is no natural light. Though it still rains, it quickly becomes rare as you go down. Instead, the locals suffer floods of toxic water that pour out of drainage pipes and channels above. The locals here are poor, often working grunt labor or pressed into indentured servitude. The midnight zone is the largest of the three commonly known zones, but dwarfs in comparison to the Abyss

The Abyss- though there are rumors and ghost stories floating around the twilight zone and on a rare occasion, the sunlight zone, it is only known as fact to those in the midnight zone. The abyss is the parts of the city planet that are no longer inhabitable by most sentients. It is swamped in a deadly cocktail of chemical clouds that will kill the majority of sentients if they spend to long there. The upper layers are habitable for short periods of time, though long exposer leads to lung and skin damage and can prove fatal.

Also known as the jungle, the wildlands, and "that hellhole", the Abyss has developed its own diverse ecosystem with numerous types of flora and fauna that make traversing the area difficult

Wyrms

Living deep within the Abyss, little in known about these gargantuan predators. They are reptilian creatures, with a long snakelike body about the length of a school bus. None know how they came to Denon, or if they were a native of the planet when it was green and full of life. What is known, is that they are dangerous predators and fiercely territorial.

Habitat
Wyrms are known to tunnel through the lower levels of Denon. By passively sifting through the many chemicals in the air and absorbing those needed for napalm into separate "venom sacks", they are able to eject the chemicals at will through separate holes in their mouths where the chemicals then mix in front of it and are used to melt the metal of the abandoned cityscape. As they create these tunnels, the wyrms naturally reinforce the walls with the melted metals that they create, leaving thick supports in their wake.

Due to the natural melting point of metal versus stone, wyrms stay within the confines of the lower city, never tunneling into the stone foundation that the city planet rests on. Their need for the chemical clouds also limits their territory to the lower levels where clouds of it are more common, though they will travel some ways upwards to hunt.

Diet
As a large predator, wyrms will consume anything larger than a big dog that wanders into it's territory. (Some specific species will be listed and hopefully linked once I have written them)

Mating
Wyrms mate for life, and will raise nests of one to two children. Due to their role as top of the food chain and the strain their appetites' can put on the ecosystem, the number of wyrms is low compared to many smaller predators.

Folklore
Numerous legends surround this species. Some consider them to be beings of the afterworld, souls of cruel men come back tp haunt the lower levels of Denon. Others still consider them the king of beasts, and the rightful ruler of Denon. Among the Amavikkan, the wyrm are nothing more than animals. Except that is, for Leia. Unlike on Tatooine where Leia is a Great Krayt dragon, rumored to have grown wings ant taken to the sky, the local Denonites consider Leia to be an ancient wyrm, the largest and grandest of them all.

Rockbud

Biology
The average rockbud grows to six inched tall, with the diameter of a foot. It is squat and round, with a hard rocky shell. This shell splits into four pieces which are often kept lowered against the ground unless in the event of a flood.

The rockbud senses approaching floods through it's numerous feelers, thin vines that snake along the floor around it. These vines have a low tolerance for water absorption, and even the slightest change in the local atmospheric moisture will cause these vines to curl up within the protective shell of the rockbud.

Inside the rockbud, one can find a tangle of vines and petals. The sensory vines rest on the outermost edge of the life hidden inside the shell. Next is a tangle of thicker vines. These vines have a higher tolerance towards the many dangerous chemicals that suffuse water and can lap up water from left over puddles.

In the center of the plant are the petals. Thick and wide, their shape resembles that of a spade. Their deep purple coloring attracts the insectoid pollinators that often make their nests on the ceiling and under the ledges of a building

Habitat
Rockbuds can be found throughout the midnight zone. The grow in clusters of four or five along the ground or other flat surfaces.

Uses
Though inedible and too needy for a houseplant when one can barely afford enough water for the sentients, rockbuds are commonly used as flood warnings. Their natural detection is the only forecasting system that is not only free but commonly reliable.

Demonyms on Denon

Cloud Dwellers
Above the sunlight zone, these people are the rich of the rich. They reside at the tops of cloud cutters far above the trials of the city below.

Sunnies
Resident of the sunlight Zone, the majority of the denizens are entirely unaware of this derogatory nickname.

Duskers
A common name for the residents of the twilight zone. It originates from the poor lighting that categorizes the area.

Shadow
Reflective of the name for trusted members of Darkwire, it reveals how many shadowrunners originate from the midnight zone.

Ghosts
Though not a residential based name, this term is common among Shadows. It refers to those that take regular trips into the Abyss.

Darak Spiders

Common among the upper layers of the Abyss, Daraks are some of the most feared predators that one may regularly run into. This has little to do with their diet and more to do with their mating cycle.

Anatomy

Darak spiders are large, measuring two feet wide and a foot tall. They have long pale legs, with hairs that they use to feel the air around them. The venom contained within their mandibles is enough to disorient an average sized humanoid, making it difficult to move their muscles and causing a sensitivity to light. For smaller species such as the Lepi, it can cause full paralysis with the potential of cardiac arrest. Larger species such as Wookiee show little to no effect.

Diet

Unlike other spiders, Derek’s do not spin webs. Instead they use their long, muscular legs to chase their prey down.

A dereks diet is made up of small mammals. These include rats and other types of rodents.

Habitat

Exposure to acidic water has created shallow caves in the walls that Derek spiders are known to nest in. They are solitary creatures, but have been known to nest together when space is limited.

Mating habits

Derek spiders have no set mating period. Although they mate more often in the fall, leading to this being considered their “mating period”.

The eggs of Dereks are too fragile to handle the high levels of toxins. To prevent this, females will inject their eggs inside the corpses of large mammals. Humanoids are their preferred target, but they can also use mammals of similar sizes.
