SPECIAL FEATURES

ANy-20 Active Sensor Transceiver: While used in several projects, it still stands the test and for use for smuggling was a must. The removal of several components was necessary but it allowed the ship to jam sensors up to a certain degree. (x)
Hyperwave Signal Interceptor: Attached to the right engines, it is connected to the cockpit to intercept small fluctuations in local hyperspace of the arrival or exit of a starship. It cannot tell where it is nor can it tell what type of starship it is. (x)
Life Support
Photoreducing Sensor: While only a small section of use inside the cockpit, it is used in case of rapid changes of lighting such as atmospheric changes or sudden shine of the sun or worst case, the end of an explosive. (x)
Signal Interceptor: Works in conjunction with the Sonic Scanner once communications been decrypted, also boosting communications signal strength. (x)
Sonic Scanner: A strange attachment as he found out that there was a bit more power to the engines that needed. The Sonic Scanner is attached to the left side engines and scans medium range transmissions for capture and decoding. This was more of an afterthought after considering if caught in patrols, perhaps wanting to hear the commanders order on capture or release. (x)
SubLight Acceleration Motor (SLAM): Used in a prior project but for a much heavier ship, the Y-Wing has been modified with having all four engines using the SLAM for maximum effect and is not as impeding as before due to its lighter weight. (x)

Strengths:
  • Catch Me if You Can: The "Defy" was designed to be the fastest Y-Wing ever modified with four engines with most of the power diverted to them including the SubLight Acceleration Motor (SLAM) being installed.
  • Sensor Preparation: The Y-Wing has been heavily modified with several different types of sensors, taking a quarter of all the power in the ship just to use them all in conjunction.
Weaknesses:
  • Almost All Firepower Removed: Save for two unmodified KX-5 Laser Cannons, all bomb bays including photon torpedoes, ion cannons and turret systems been removed.
  • Exposed Parts: Just like the old design, some parts of the Y-Wing are exposed but it is more added with extra sensory equipment on the engines, making them more viable targets.
  • Touchy Controls: The slightest movement of the controls jerks the ship around or propels it to great degree. This could never be fixed and requires extremely steady hands and a calm mind to pilot it properly.
Description:

While Have Gun Will Travel gets unusual requests...this one was one of the strangest. Jorus Merrill happened upon the workshop after an interesting conversation at a local tavern. The men met up and decided to make a trade for some equipment that was worth quite a bit in exchange for a challenge. To create the fastest Y-Wing locally made with modifications only smugglers could dream. Haon Hafey took it as a challenge and took the Y-Wing provided into the facility and begun a full deconstruction as a blueprint was laid out for the eventual huge layout of the Y-Wing project code named "Defy".

The first step was to fully dismantle almost all weaponry on the Y-Wing which would then resell for paying most of the equipment costs. Taking an opportunity from a much older design, he got the salvagers to bring in two more engine blocks similar to the Y-Wing and remodeled it after the Heavy Y-Wing. While that was being retrieved, the generator was torn out and replaced with a modern generator with considerable output. A problem was shown right off as the generator was a big bigger than its predecessor. Using the old bomb bay location, the generator was set up in that location, effectively eliminating the spot completely.

Before the "Defy" was put back together, a SLAM unit (SubLight Accelerator Motor) was bought and was connected to each engine block, drawing power from the generator. However it did not even take more than half of the engines main power, even when reconfigured for maximum output. Using this to his advantage, he decided to go all out from sensory equipment recovered on the field and started attaching them to the four engines as conduits so breakers would not be needed and surges in power would be properly balanced and minimal damage. This included the Hyperwave Signal Interceptor, Photoreducing Sensor, Signal Interceptor, and a Sonic Scanner. With the four placed on one engine block a piece, it was almost completely balanced but still had a good amount of output energy remaining. Taking the opportunity to try something new, he placed on the rear of the cockpit an ANy-20 Active Sensor Transceiver which would allow the Y-Wing to jam at the central location and take the extra power output that was not required.

While Life Support was being installed in the cockpit, Jorus Merrill came by and talked about the controls on the "Defy" being rather stiff and requested it to be lax. This was done but apparently in the worst way with the Life Support becoming somehow linked in the process. When it was put together, it was found to be to late and all the wiring in the "Defy" would need reworked including the generator output specifications. When discovered during testing phase for Jorus Merrill, he propelled so quickly and unexpectedly, it nearly collidied with a large pile of scrap in the Scraplands and the wind gust with it collapsed the entire pile of scrap near one of the local settlements. While praised for his actions, even if accidental, the "Defy" will require several days to handle properly before being used out in the field.
