Private Debating

Alina stood outside the spice mines of Kessel, dressed in black. Hooded, as a Sith should be. She was just.. Watching, at this point. Slaves that toiled away every day, to avoid pain, avoid trouble. They could fight, they could even win. But their spirits had been broken down so far that they didn't see an alternative to live. They were, ultimately, weak. She hated the weak. They refused to get stronger. She hadn't. She risked and lost everything to get tronger. She was now, but the point remained.

Those unwilling to take the risk were the people who deserved their fates the most.

She let out a sigh as she settled on the rock that doubled as her seat. As she just.. watched. And waited. Something had called her here, but whatever it was, she didn't know.

Kessel is known across all charted space as the planet famous for its spice mines and challenging, often slave-driven labour. The world also resided on the edge of Dark Empire space, a system that had not yet been conquered by the Imperial Blocc, yet the New Jedi Order had kept a close watch on their recent invaders. Following the attack on Coruscant, Jido Myyse had informed the Council that he wished to visit the planet to ascertain the certainty that slave labour was once again being employed to pillage the world of its natural resources. Jido's concern was the health and care of those forced to work, those who had been stripped of their sentient rights and were being used as though they were droids, released only when their bodies could physically function no longer.

The T-65XN "Wolf-X" Starfighter had entered Kessel's atmosphere, and Jido began to conduct a scouting run. Reaching for the central terminal, he engaged his air-to-surface sensor scanning, immediately picking up several mining facilities and compounds on the radar. Despite being located near the border of the Dark Empire, Kessel was not yet officially theirs, so Jido did not see the need to hide his presence. The Wolf-X Starfighter shot directly overhead of the largest of the three compounds, dipping the right wing to peer out from the cockpit as though he might visually make out details of what was below. As though in repayment of the old Sage's transparency, he did not appear to incite the defences of the mining facility.

The Starfighter soon banked off to the right, circling around the facility until he was able to identify a landing platform to which Jido drew back on the thrusters and began to initiate a landing sequence, the landing struts extending from the base of the fighter whilst Jido guided the craft to touch down upon the permacrete platform. Finally, once the vessel had wound down and the engines had settled, the Jedi Master disembarked from the cockpit, taking with him his walking cane and dropping down to land, his bare feet hitting the pavement with a soft slap. It would be now that his attention sought a welcome party, to see who it would be that arrived to greet him.

Another ship had arrived.

Alina stayed where she was seated, idly sipping at the cup she had brought with her. Anima was important to keep flowing in her body now, to keep her strong. Alert. Her eyes narrowed some as the ship settled in the dock as she caught the scent. Someone was strong in the Force. Full of Anima, of strength. She slowly stood up from her perch to hop forward and fall into the camp. Eyes settled only briefly on her before, for some reason or another, they found themselves looking away.

It was a subtle trick of the Force, and one she'd use to get all the way to the dock and just.. Watch. A group of the locals had already approached the aged Jedi, concern and wariness clear on their faces. The Jedi were supposed to be busy, not here. Not bothering what was actually legal here.

The Jedi were indeed busy; however, while the younger generations toiled with the recent reorganization and recovery efforts following Coruscant, the elderly Sage had opted for a relatively more straightforward assignment. He had injured his lower back in the recent fight, a consequence of engaging those who sought them ill-will. Coming to Kessel was his own making, not a formal assignment but a task he had chosen of free will. Regardless of legalities, slave labour was an abhorrent business in his eyes. While there would be little that he could do to alter the miners' fate, he could at least take the time to ensure that they were being treated according to personnel regulations. After all, neglect could often lead to ill health and unnecessary loss of life. If such were the case here, that would warrant the intervention of the Jedi.

As the locals gathered, including workers and facility officers, Jido Myyse lowered his head in a respectful bow, his left hand clutching his walking cane as he stood before the group. There was darkness among them, a sense that someone within the group did not share the same curiosity and suspicion of the Jedi Master's arrival, or at least not out of concern for the mining faculties. Jido was not the only Force User who had arrived upon Kessel.

Seeing the need to alter his intent, Jido greets the group and asks their consent to refuel his Starfighter. "Forgive the intrusion, friends. My name is Jido Myyse. I would politely ask if someone could assist me with seeing to my ship; I'm afraid I'm not as young as I once was," he smiled, showing humility in the face of distrust and caution. Almost all of them felt anxious and on guard; their emotions were palpable to the honed senses of the Jedi Sage, but he was not here to cause them harm, only to visit and enquire further about their operations and the treatment of their workers.

Alina was the one that ended up stepping forward. Her eyes were as ever hidden behind a pair of sunglasses, to at least keep the glow of red that was there from giving away her nature. She feigned a smile to the elder Jedi, glancing up towards the ship. Minds were easy to control. The guards, the workers, they didn't seem to acknowledge her existence and yet also heeded her words as they left.

"I can assist you. What brings you here, master Jedi?"

One of the locals appeared to volunteer to assist the aged Jedi Master, Jido, offering an appreciative smile and dipping his head in humble acceptance. "Thank you kindly," he responded, soon turning to begin leading the younger woman towards his Starfighter. The others present seemed to accept this outcome cautiously, and though they appeared to remain on edge, they slowly dispersed for the time being, leaving the pair to refuel the small craft.

"That is a very reasonable question, my young friend", Jido acknowledged her as he hobbled towards the T-65XN "Wolf-X" Starfighter, "One easily answered. I am concerned for the workforce here and wish to understand the conditions in which they laboured and lived. As you no doubt know about us, Jedi, we care greatly for life. Though I do not believe anything illicit is happening here, I would seek to help these people if the working conditions are found wanting," Jido explained openly and honestly. Jido had not arrived with any sense of authority, nor did he seek to disrupt the lives of the miners on Kessel; yet if the senior staff were to agree with the elderly Jedi's suggestions, his concern was indeed founded, then perhaps Jido could requisition funds for improvements that guaranteed better health and care for those enslaved.

Turning to glance Alina Tremiru Alina Tremiru once over, he hummed quietly to himself in consideration. "And you, my young friend?" he would soon pose the same question to the woman, "I would not take you for a minor, nor management, were I to find you elsewhere. Pray tell what brings one so strong in the Force such as yourself to this place?" he clarified, giving credence to the fact that he had indeed sensed a shift in the Force when having landed and through speculation, experience and the strength in which the Force fluctuated between the pair, he could only be all but certain.

Despite this truth, Jido did not bid the woman any sudden reason to question her safety. The elderly Jedi continued to walk towards the Starfighter with every notion of seeing his craft refuelled, with or without the young lady's assistance.
