War as a business to end war as a business
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

Intent: To create a modern, improved version of the DTEK system, intended for a different use case.
Canon Link: N/A
Primary Source: DTEK

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Blith-Tech
Affiliation: Closed Market
Model: DC-2A
Modularity: Compatible with the Dominion Telecommunications Kit Network
Production: Mass Produced
Material: Silicon, Durasteel, Plastics.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Quantum Entanglement - The system eschews the subspace of the earlier DC-1A for a faster, more interesting quantum entanglement system.
  • Compatibility - The system is still highly compatible with the 1A, however 1A systems will not benefit from the advantages of the 2A system, and has all the same advantages and disadvantages listed.
Strengths:
  • Quantum Entanglement - This allows for a rather interesting application of the D-Tek system, instead of operating as a group of independent computer systems, it can operate as a single system, still made up of independent parts. This allows for the computing capability of the whole network to be used as a single unit, making a gestalt entity of sorts.
  • Jamming - The 2A is not vulnerable to subspace jamming, unlike the original, and will not be jammed in a nebula.
  • Computing Distribution - While the original was optimized for military sensor sharing, this system was optimized for computing distribution, allowing computers to operate as a single unit from any distance.
  • Nearly Unhackable - The system is extremely difficult to hack if not impossible due to complex and secure encryption used in all aspects of the technology, moreso in this case due to quantum encryption.
Weaknesses:
  • Inside Man - The system is extremely weak to inside man attacks, one high up traitor and the enemy could get a hold of a lot of intelligence information.
  • EMP - An EMP can knock out the entire system unless the ship the system is stored on is EMP shielded.
  • Large Transmitter - Quantum entanglement is not very simple, it requires a massive transmitter in order to function. While this isn’t a problem for starships, space stations, and planetary bases, it precludes this systems use in infantry applications.
  • Cooling - Needs to be at very low temperatures. The simplest means of accomplishing this are just simply putting it in space, however if it is in an atmosphere or on an inhabited ship, it will require a cooling structure.
DESCRIPTION
Blith-Tech received an unusual request from an anonymous client, upgrade DTEK. The system was highly classified but it a was sort of open secret among the technical industry, and it seemed that this particular client wanted an upgraded version of it. Not discriminating, per usual, the company got to work upgrading it to their exact specifications.

The system was to be optimized for distributed computing rather than distributed sensor sharing, and they wanted it instantaneous. While this is highly difficult, they were able to come up with a quantum entanglement based solution. Quantum entanglement works from any distance, and allows the entangled particles to exist as the same thing. Any change in the state in one particle causes a change in state of the other. This allows for computing power to be shared and multiplied. Every computer is just added to the power of the collective computer, allowing the creation of a gestalt computer.

While it is unknown who this technology will be used by, Blith-Tech is rather happy with the result, taking all the advantages of the original system, adding a few more, and adding acceptable weaknesses.
