His research into cybernetics and neural integration quickly attracted attention across the Arkanian scientific community and broke ground in new directions. It also attracted controversy. Several of his early experiments resulted in the deaths of test subjects during what he referred to as optimization procedures. Ethical oversight committees attempted to halt his work and censure him. That was when he attracted the attention of various research networks that moved in the shadows. Unbeknownst to the youth the Kainate had been paying close attention from the shadows. Sevran was eventually recruited into these networks that quietly put an end to the ethical inquiry and would later lead to his full introduction into what was Shadow Mind, where his brilliance flourished under conditions free from ethical restriction, under the banner of the Kainate.
