Théo loves the smell of coconut oil in the morning ... it smells like.. "Man, what is that horrible smell?", Théo exclaimed wrinkling his nose. Following his nose he soon discovered the source of it, some giant dead aquatic creature had washed up on the beach and decaying beautifully in the baking sun. "I think we better find another beach", he said to the boys.

Dropping his waycoolers back on his nose from his head, towel over the shoulder and picking up his surf board he headed up wind. It is break time from the Silver Academy, and the boys are at a loose end which would only spell trouble if left on Voss to do nothing but plot stuff, so when they asked if they could travel to Dac for some surfing and relaxing on an attol in the middle of nowhere, they received a resounding YES!. And that alone was the answer from the grand master [member="Thurion Heavenshield"]. He and the entire Silver Sanctum Jedi sighed in relief as their shuttle had lifted off Voss bound for Dac.

So Zak Dymo, Makai Dashiell and Théo Heavenshield are alone on an attol in the middle of nowhere .. what could possibly go wrong?

Oh and do not fear, they have sufficient supplies of food and fresh water to last them a week .. at least.

Sixty meters under water, and no bottom in sight.

Sunlight continued, illuminating the ocean environment in a blue-green gradient that slowly faded toward darkness in the abyssal depths of the sea. Fluidly, the small Nautolan spiraled as he swam through the warm, tropical waters of Dac. He was like a bird in flight, natural and with a confidence that belied each movement or subtle motion propelling the aquatic youngling through the water world. His body undulated into several dolphin kicks, before he ducked downward.

Then he shot up.

Forty meters. Twenty. Ten. The Nautolan breached the surface of the water, erupting from out of the ocean to leap up into the air with a splash. Droplets of water captured in the light like a million diamonds shining in the sun. Tucking into a backflip, the small Nautolan cannonballed backwards back into the sea, plunging back beneath the surface as he again disappeared somewhere, beneath the sea.

"I think we better find another beach."

Theo's voice tricked through the bright yellow Go! mobile comlink that the Nautolan wore. The audio adjusted for salinity and the different speed at which sound traveled through water. "Your problem is... you're on the beach!" the Nautolan tossed back. Even with a mouthful of water, Nautolans -- like on Quarren or Mon Calamari -- had developed a unique ability to speak normally underwater, as their daily interaction was often in such environments.

Popping back up so that his head was sticking up out of the water, facing toward the atoll where Theo was, the boy gave a cough as he cleared his sinuses of sea water so that he could breathe air again. "Get. In. The. Water!"

What was so hard about that concept for humans? Come on, the water was fine!

Unlike Zak and Theo, Makai was the youngest out of the band of boys. The son of a farmer turned CEO and an ace X-Wing pilot. To say he could just wander about the galaxy like many Jedi kids without supervision was a pipe dream. His parents said there were too many unknowns, too many risks. Beyond his parents and his Nana, [member="Danger Arceneau"] was the only one allowed to keep the boy overnight, and even [member="Thessa Kai"] had great reservations about that.

In order to spend any time with the two 'cooler' kids, Makai was being shadowed on the island by Firemane bodyguards, thoughtfully provided by [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] . They maintained a respectful distance, keeping out of his way and out of sight. He did think it a little creepy to see a woman every so often peaking out from tropical foliage, as if to remind him she was waiting for him to try to escape.

The Dashiells owned an island on Dac, so it wasn't as if he could escape anyways. His parents were on planet with him. Salacia employees were busy in the area. Firemane HQ was on Dac. Arceneau Trade was sure hanging around somewhere too. Everyone remembered a half-human, half-fish kid.

Surf board was tucked under his arm as a now nearly fully grown Theo complained about a dead sea creature. It wasn't as if the smell was wafting across the entire island. His friend needed to lighten up...well.... At least his sorta-kinda friend. Makai was pretty sure he was just tagging along....but it was okay. Ever since his very best friend Danger had gotten married he hadn't seen her was often. Maybe Theo and Zak would be just as fun.

"Don't worry about it, you heard Zak."

Makai was making a bee line closer to the edge of the water. Surf started to kick up on his sandy feet as he looked back to the teenage boy.

"Think you can actually surf this time?"

Well it seemed like they were not alone! Théo could not resist the urge to take a look over his shoulder and peer into the surrounding foliage to see if he could find a set of eyes looking back. Makai had come with an army it seemed whether he wanted it or not and Théo suspected that his mother probably had Silver Shadows lurking in the err, shadows, as well. What kind of trouble did the Olds think they would get into? It was fun time for the News.

It was all well and good for Zak and Makai to say 'forget about it', the smell that is, they are used to this but not the hypersensitive nose of Théo, his rather elegant chiseled royal nose did not like it. But they are not here to hear about his nose and the two boys made a good point. "Yeah good point". With that Théo followed Makai to the water peeling of his shirt and waycoolers to leave them on the sand in his wake.

He smiled broadly in response to Makai's question, he would show him instead and as they plowed into the water up to thigh deep, Théo laid the board down and laid on it himself paddling out. Since the last they met, Théo had been practicing and is now a good surfer, although trying to surf the snow down the mountains of Midvinter proved more difficult, but would you believe he achieved that as well? But that required a different board.

Once out passed the breakers, Théo met up with Zak as well. "You show off", he said to his friend with a large smile. It was good to see him and Makai again and hopefully over time as they all grow up the three will become thick as firm friends.

For his part, Zak was really glad Makai was here.

They'd only met once, but he was closer in age to Zak than Theo was. Not that Zak was adverse to playing with Theo, but action figures and stuff were more of something that he had in common with younger kids. Zak was also largely oblivious to the fact that they were being watched. Plus, Makai was aquatic. That automatically made him cool.

Popping his head up out of the water, the small Nautolan turned to look over as the teenage Heavenshield drifted out on top of his surf board. "You should see the coral an' fish an' stuff down here," the youngling noted happily, his tendrils flared out as they drifted in the water around his head. "It's like a jungle."

He got to live and see the human world all the time. But humans never seemed to stick their heads under the water to see what they were missing up here on the surface.

Paddling out after Theo, Makai eventually sat up and lazily paddled/drifted along in the ocean. Waves gently rolled him up and down, the sound of their break on the shore background noise in his ears. The tropical islands all around them teemed with various sorts of life, as it was rare in Dac to get so many little clusters of islands so close together. Island reefs and shallows were a playground for all sorts of sea creatures. Theo couldn't have picked a better place for them to stay.

"Zak is right, the reefs are awesome!!"

Awesome if you could continually swim underwater without coming back up for air. However, the half-Galan already had a solution to that problem.Grinning back at the teenage boy, he tilted his shaggy head towards the shore and their encampment.

"I packed a rebreather for you. Its my Dads but I cleaned off the mouth piece for ya. Now you can join me an' Zak."

It was rather pleasant out passed the breakers, the water lapping around the board and wetting his body. The sun beaming down on them, not to hot to burn but with a sense of moist with humidity which would build to a tropical storm by the afternoon. But that was ages away and the boys would not care anyway, just hanging with his two friends was more then enough to relax the young man.

"That sounds amazing, I would love to see the reefs, I never have". Sure he had been underwater in the lakes on Tabaqui and seen the creatures there and the plant life, but he is never home there much to do that on a regular basis. That, and studies just chew up his time as well as Zak's, so it did not surprise Theo that Zak was eager to show off his world. Just as Theo was about to tell them he couldn't, Makai came to the rescue.

"You did?", he looked at the young boy, "Thank you that is most thoughtful" and it was! Theo did not think to bring such a thing, and the idea produced a big smile. "But let me catch some waves first, I am dying to try out my new board, I made it myself you know!".
[member="Makai Dashiell"] | [member="Zak Dymo"]

Silly humans.

Always wanting to play on top of the waves. "Have you even practiced?" the Nautolan asked, skeptically. Last time he saw Theo on a surfboard, he didn't seem to be doing much surfing. Zak wasn't an expect, but he thought part of the idea was to stay on the surfboard. And Voss was definitely not the place to practice. It was, like, the most aquatic unfriendly planet in the whole galaxy. The whole city was a mountain top, with ice fed rivers. And not even rivers that were all that big.

Rolling backwards, the young Nautolan barrel rolled through the water, blinking and sniffling as his head popped back up above the surface while he continued frog kicking to maintain his head above the surface of the water.

At least if Theo got yanked into a riptide, there were two people here that knew how to swim.

Gently bobbing on his own board on top of the waves, Makai seemed pleased Theo would be ready to check out the reefs and various underwater delights shortly. He wondered for a moment if there were undersea caverns near some of the islands. It wouldn't be wise to take Theo into such things though...if the rebreather failed then it was practically instant death. No sense in flirting with such disaster, there would be plenty to do in the shallows and middle depths.

"It looks great. " Makai offered helpfully. Could Theo actually surf on that thing? Who knows but it would be entertaining to watch.

Scale speckled hand raised to wave at a yacht passing in the distance. Iced azure eyes squinted to see if it was anyone he knew. Perhaps a yacht full of bodyguards that were disguising themselves as they lazily floated along the vast seas. As he looked back a perfect wave was building. A brief grin flashed at the other two boys.

"See you at the shore Theo!"

Belly first on the board, he quickly started to paddle out ahead of the 'monster' wave coming up on their tails.

Oh ye of little faith!

There seemed to be much speculation, doubt, fear, anxiety, as to whether Theo could, actually, swim. Let alone surf! Have I've been practicing? "I had a good teacher remember?", he said the Zak, who had taught Theo to swim and besides that was forever ago now and yes he had seen water from that day to this. His parents had introduced him to the wonders of water not only at bath time, but in the lakes on Tabaqui. The families first home, sitting on the edge of one of the big lakes there and whenever they are there, they swim. No waves though to Theo's disappointment. But Voss has oceans, and so whenever the chance arises he goes with his board.

Theo is under no illusion that his place in the water is 'alien' to his being, Zak and Makai are naturally gifted because of their species and under the water they are master. But above it? well .. lets just show them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ-M_8pY6TI
He gave Zak a wink and a cheeky smile, as he began to paddle off after Makai. Liking the look of the first wave Makai went for it! Theo hung back and waited for the next and to watch his friend surf to the shore. Once Makai disappeared from sight, Theo turned his attention to the sea, reading the swell behind him, watching the wind on water and in the distance a nice looking wave began to form. Theo started to paddle until match the momentum of the swell and dropped in a the wave rose. Placing his hands his chest on the board, he pushed up bringing his legs and feet under him and stood up, natural goofy foot. His board cut through the water under his pressure applied through his legs and feet, his weight moving to keep balance, it felt natural to him now. He cut the board back riding the face of the growing wave, white water spraying up and the board sliced through. It felt amazing, the ride such natural power and the board performed well.

But there is no such thing as a perfect wave or perfect ride, and so as the wave began to break and cut up as it came close to the shore, Theo turned the board to ride the wave to the top and flew in air body and board airborne. Once he surfaced, Theo pulled in his board and went to meet Makai on the beach, dripping wet, he could taste the salt on his lips, the sand on his skin and it felt fantastic. He turned to see what Zak had been up to all this time.

OOC Note
I totally forgot about this thread. I suck. I know. >.<

Tilting his head to one side, Zak was very perplexed by the back and forth about the shore. They'd only just gotten out onto the water.

...and they were ready to go back to shore? Already?

He chocked this up to some human thing. Humanity explained many things which Nautolan younglings did not understand. Like those tags on his pillows that said 'do not remove under penalty of law'. It was his pillow! What did the law have to do with it! Did people know how hard it was to find a pillow that suited both wet and dry environments? Zak seriously needed, like, multiple pillows depending on if he was sleeping in fresh water, salt walter, or no water. Except, who slept in no water?

Again, humans.

They were a dry, dry people.

As Zak felt the water rise with the swell, his buoyancy dropped so that his head vanished beneath the surface. Suspended in the ocean, he felt himself pulled backward by the pull of the wave before it passed overhead. The tidal action shifting the Nautolan forward again as he bobbed back up to the surface.

Makai and Theo were dots in the surf, popping back up on the beach. Seriously, these people came to Dac and they were sucking up to the sandbars?

Humans! Never understood 'em. Didn't want to.

Up on the large wave, it was quickly propelling him towards the glittering sands of the beach. Makai kept low, arms spread out to balance himself. Legs bent and he maneuvered around, moving the board across the waves as it continued on. The young boy rode the wave as long as possible before being deposited into the ocean. Salt water rushed over him and his gills took over for his body. Unlike Zak, as a half-Galan he had spent his life in and out of water, so there wasn't a frightening switch from breathing one source to another. Even at his young age it seemed very natural, air or water.

Makai waited underwater for a moment, looking in the clear waters for Zak. Not spotting him, the boy surfaced and shook his head, long curls sending droplets everywhere. Resting his upper body on the board, he paddled on into the beach, slowly emerging from the water. Taking off the leg attachment on his board, Makai planted it into the sand before running towards their base camp.

He immediately went to rummage through his bag, finding what he was looking for. The rebreather. Now they could have fun with Theo without leaving the older boy behind.

"Hey Theo, I found it!" Scale speckled hand held up the silvery device, calling to the boy.

Well that was the best ride ever! Theo was so pleased with himself, his face almost broke with the smile. After catching a few more waves, not all of them successful as the first, but who cared, he finally came out of the water to join Makai on the beach. "That was amazing", he said staking his head to get rid of the water from his long black hair. His body felt great, all clean and salty as the sand clung to his feet. He could feel the burn of the sun on his back, and Theo was getting a nice tan.

He looked for Makai, found him diving into his bag and pulling out something small for him. "Oh great!", he said taking the rebreather from his friend. "Thanks". He put his arm around the smaller body. "Lets go find Zak. You know, it is good an all that you two can swim without one of these and at least you surf. I wanna see Zak on a board, instead of bobbing out there behind the breakers", he smiled.

Rebreather are not complicated, and so Theo soon worked out how to use one. Entering the water once more leaving his board behind on the beach, Theo swam out toward Zak, the little green spot on the horizon soon became large in his sight. "Hey, now you two going to show me the coral reef?". Although he would never be a elegant as the two boys under the water, he could swim well enough now to hold his own.

"I don't think Zak can surf." A grin broke out on his face, it was a shame the other boy wasn't nearby to nudge him in the ribs.

Who wouldn't want to surf?! Makai was viewing it through the lens of someone born with both aquatic and human genes. If one was strictly aquatic in nature perhaps surfing wouldn't be as amazing as some other feats. Theo would check out the rebreather before heading out into the surf, disappearing towards the green dot that was Zak.

He chose a slightly different way to swim there, merely diving below the surf and avoiding the waves pushing him about all together. Makai wasn't as heavy or tall as Theo, so actually swimming above the waves was more than difficult for himself. Iced blue eyes caught sight of Zak and he popped up near the green skinned boy was Theo was talking to him.

"C'mon!"

Just as soon as he appeared, Makai had went back under the waves, off towards the reefs.
