Faction Darkness homework [Diarchy Faction]

I've been asked to go to a planet called Bastion, so I'm using the solar spectrum to get there, in invisible mode of course, to avoid being seen going there. This feature on my ship is really very practical, allowing me to navigate the galaxy discreetly.

I've got some homework to do, but I don't yet know what or with whom. The mere fact of having to work as part of a team makes me uncomfortable, but I'll have to deal with it, because for collective relief I'll be with several people. I really hope to live up to their expectations.

I'm getting ready to meet the Diarchy faction today, classes at the korriban academy are fun but if I can meet people it's an opportunity to make new connections. I agree that it's useful to have contacts on your datapad. It's with this in mind that I decelerate to the bastion level, I've made quite a journey to get here.

Fortunately for me, my ship has a good fuel autonomy, I start to enter the atmosphere slowly, still unseen, and I launch a radio communication in the direction of the Academy, give the password I've been given to pass through security in complete tranquillity and land at the hangar.

The Academy is not far from the Ravelin city and offers a mountain base. The place is really atypical, carved out of the rock, a veritable fortress hidden in a mountain - the view is nice too, but I don't have time to hang around and admire the scenery.

Little by little, I climb the cold stone steps and make my way to the Academy's training room. I don't even have time to put my things down, so I hope there's enough room to put my bag down. Of course, when I arrived and shut down my ship's engines, the camouflage was deactivated and the ship appeared out of nowhere. This surprised a few of my apprentices, as I like to make distinguished entrances.

With this in mind, I now enter the training room, looking left and right to see if anyone's there yet. I put my things down in a suitable place and lean against a wall, waiting for signs of activity. I slip my hands into the pockets of my student outfit to hide my usual stress.

Kallous had been on Bastion for a few days by now. He had only recently been inducted into this new order, and had since then spent his time here in the temple. Learning a new point of view, and bringing clarity to his mind and recent events.

He was now in the training room of the temple, going over his lightsaber forms, which were easily the strongest thing about him, continuing his study of Djem So while he waited for his fellow students to arrive. The communal study to begin once everyone was here.

Kallous alternated between using his lightsaber on its own, and wielding his former Master’s lightsaber in his left. The crimson blades buzzing in the air as they moved.

Kallous halted when he saw another enter the room. A woman, who appeared to be a student like him. He deactivated his saber, and linked them to his belt. Perhaps he would finally learn what was actually happening.

“Good afternoon.” He said politely in greeting to Lyssara Thrynn Lyssara Thrynn .

There are already people here, and a sith was already practicing with his lightsaber. He comes over to wish me a good afternoon, apparently a polite person. I stand up straight in front of him and give him a friendly smile.

"Hello, how are you?"

It's a more than banal phrase, but I'm not very good at conversation. I look at his lightsaber - I don't have one yet, just a poor Phrik knife. It doesn't even belong to me, it was lent to me by the Korriban Academy and has since become my own knife.

I offer him my hand as a sign of politeness, because if we're going to work together, we might as well do it right. For the moment, we're in a training room, so I've no reason to be hostile towards him. It's still too early to say. Our instructors don't seem to have arrived yet.

"My name is Lyssara, I'm new here."

Kallous Kallous

The young woman offered him a hand to shake and he took it. He’d learned in these past few days that this environment was not as cutthroat as the Sith Academy on Korriban. The concepts of duty to one’s fellows had been a strange change of pace, but one he’d quickly learned to like.

“You and me both. It’s good to meet you Lyssara.” He said earnestly.

He also noted the woman’s weapon. Unlike the usual lightsaber she had a short dagger, was she less directly confrontational? Did she lean more into the “stealth around and stab where they aren’t looking” rather than the “stab them in the face” method? He’d met one or two assassins in training while he was an Apprentice. He wondered if she was one such assassin.

“So you’re new as well. How long have you been with the Brotherhood? I’ve been inducted only days ago.”

Lyssara Thrynn Lyssara Thrynn

So we're both new, but he's particularly polite to me. A good point for him, not everyone seems to be cold and locked up afterwards you shouldn't judge people too quickly it could backfire on me, as betrayal is never far away here.

"The pleasure is all mine, it's also been a few days since I was introduced"

I've just arrived at the Academy for the first time, I'm still a little lost I haven't had time to explore everything yet, my things are still in the ship although my maid is taking care of them, hardly time to arrive I'm already asked here.

I lower my gaze and notice that he's looking at my Phirk blade. I don't have my own lightsaber yet, so I use what the Academy lent me. I'm content to employ a rather efficient and stealthy assassin style with treacherous attacks with the aim of granting myself victory.

"What are we doing? Are we still waiting for someone?"

Kallous Kallous

He could tell immediately that she was used to the ways of the Sith. Much like he was. More out of habit than out of real fear of backstabbing he’d been watching everyone, his weapon never far from his hand. It was a common thing for converted sith to be this way. But the potential for betrayal and backstabbing, while never fully gone, was not as much a problem here as it was on Korriban.

At least that’s what he was told and what he had observed over the last week or so.

“Yes.” He affirmed. “We are in fact waiting for a few others. Not sure who or how many.”

Arrival of the Diarch

The Bastion was one of the Diarchs favorite places to spend his time. The aura of new students and council meetings were an actual joy to him. Each one a thing to mold and an event to set in motion. Recently Rellik had been spending a lot of time in regal events with other galactic factions and royalty. Showing the galaxy the brothers and their arrival unto the scene.

The time had come for some more calming, normal activity.
" Varis Oakertain Varis Oakertain , What are you up too my friend? I am on Bastion, currently in the library. I have word of new arrivals coming to the academy. I heard they would be training in the activities room but I am not sure who with. How about we crash. We will start with hand to hand training and we will follow up with those who wish to learn more about magic. They could get an introductory lesson on being one with the shadows.. Than we will finish the lesson with a study on Diarchy ethics and reasoning."

Varis responded with a happy demeanor. "You just want someone to beat up on!" with a boisterous laugh like a jolly old fat man. "Count me in, I will be on the way shortly. Just let me pack up my current project"

Fantastic, whoever was intended to lead this session was about to get sidelined. Rellik and Varis would be coming in to make sure these new recruits were worn down physically and mentally.

Rellik moved through the academy at an alarming speed. He wanted to beat Varis there so he could make fun of his slowness upon his arrival. Upon reaching the training centers hallway he heard talking coming from within. He could not help but to ease drop before entering. A cordial introduction between two students, both wondering where their master was. If Rellik finds out who missed their appointed teaching time he might feed him to his Adar. In fact, were there not supposed to be more students? Either way, these two will be more than enough for an evenings entertainment.

Walking into the room in a loud manner and with a big smile the Diarch announced himself to both students.
"Hello class! I believe something is amiss within the academy. There should have been around ten of you here and an instructor. However, it appears that is not the case. Seeing as how we take these things very seriously I have come to teach personally. You might recognize me from shared events or from word around Bastion. I am Diarch Rellik, co-head of the Diarchy. It is an honor to have you within the Crucible." In a manner reserved for foreign Kings or rulers the Diarch bowed to the two students. In this case though it was more of a showmanship response than a respectful one.

"Now, we are waiting upon my personal bodyguard to arrive. Upon which we will begin hand to hand training. Until then, feel free to ask myself any questions you may have about your upcoming training and life here."

The Diarch stood confidently and proudly in front of their new students. Ready to mold the new powers of the Diarchy before his own eyes. Maybe being a teacher here is something he will invest more time in.

Since the completion of The Crucible, and the founding of the Brotherhood, Lord Reign had taken to walking the halls of the academy. He enjoyed watching his wife Lady Nocturne Lady Nocturne mold the next generation of the Diarchy.

More often than not lately, he had found himself in the library. Attempting to glean the path forward from the wisdom his father had stored away, he missed his father daily, and wondered if the great Kakus would be proud of what his sons had accomplished.

Breaking from his melancholy, he felt out the crucible. Searching for something to distract his
mind from thoughts of the future for just a moment.

As he searched, a faint smile tugged at his lips. An all too familiar presence, with some newcomers as well!
“What have you gotten up to Brother?” he asked softly to the book in front of him.

It did not take long for the Diarch to find his counterpart, in one of the activity rooms no less.

Standing quietly as his brother gave an introduction, he stepped forward as well.

“Quite the welcome brother, these two must have potential to have garnered your attention… ah, but where are my manners. Forgive me.” he said, taking a low bow.

“My name is Reign, I am the other head of this Diarchy, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to the crucible”

Kallous scarcely had time to respond to the first Diarch before the other one came in and began speaking. He turned his full attention towards the two Diarchs and listened to each one speak. One far more flamboyant and loud than the other. This was of course only and observation, and he respected both men immediately. He could sense that they were strong, even without knowing that they had built this place and this order of theirs from scratch.

Though he himself put little stock in political strength, he still knew that it took a special kind of power to bring people together under a banner like they had.

Once the second Diarch had finished speaking Kallous bowed at the waist. “It’s an honor to speak with you my lords. Forgive my surprise, I did not think the two heads of state would bother themselves with two students. I should hope we are not stealing your attention away from more important matters than we.”

Despite his polite tone, he was secretly thrilled to know that the two leaders of this clan had both come down to see some of their students. He was eager to begin learning, and having two very powerful individuals in the room, and apparently instructing them, had great promise to teach him much. If he could obtain some of their knowledge and skill, even a small Iota of it, he could begin his journey to greater power.

He was an ambitious young man, that was certain.

The other director joins the training room, and the announcement of the first one was already quite disturbing, now there are two of them. I wonder what his bodyguard looks like too, and something tells me it won't be long before I get the answer, and I'm not going to like it. The diarch asks us if we want to ask him any questions.

Now that we've got the two directors, I'd like to ask them a rather specific question about our future, in fact.

"I have a question yes, what's our upcoming schedule for the next few months?"

No, because I've got ambitions, I've got projects, and I'd like to see them through to the end while continuing my training as a sith. I look at the
apprentice standing next to me, I think he's asking himself these kinds of questions too.

"I'm ready for training too, but I warn you I don't have a lightsaber, I only have this phrik knife as my main weapon for the moment."

What I don't tell them, however, is that I belong to House Rakghoul at the Korriban Academy, and that house is renowned for harboring dangerous warriors; you must never trust appearances or the size of the weapons in your hands. Within each of us lies a fearsome warrior just waiting to be awakened.

Now I turn to the two diarchs with the greatest attention to listen to the training that's about to take place.

The day had gone from a fun pass time to an outright training with the arrival of Reign. In reality it has been maybe years since the Diarchs had a duel of any kind against each other. Perfect, what better time than while training new students. Let the day's training commence.

Firstly, Rellik would need to respond to Lyssara.
"There will only be certain mandatory events. Within the Diarchy the onus of training is upon you. Any master at the crucible is willing to train but beware. Some will value your lessons and life more than others. In regards to the mandatory events, these are to gauge your progress. A curriculum will be loaded unto your datapad, upon which we expect you to follow dutifully. There will be scheduled tests that we expect you to arrive for on time and prepared to pass. Utilize your teachers, fellow students and Crucible assets like the library and arena to ensure your ability to pass these tests. If you request a specific master all higher echelon members of the Diarchy are available for vocational training and one on one sessions."

Varis had arrived shortly after the question had been answered by Rellik. The lord motioned for him to grab some things from the back closets of the room.

To Kallous -
"As stated a moment ago, all higher members of the Diarchy are tasked with being masters of some sort. It is no bother, I do appreciate your respect though. I notice you already have blades. That is good, they will not be needed today but always keep them with you, even on school grounds."

Speaking generally to both students and standing in the center of the room. "We will begin with regular exercise. Just because we have the force does not mean we mustn't be in shape. We will start with exercises going through range of motion. Weighted clothing and balls with various crunches, lunges, and movement. Than we finish with some baseline cardio before moving on." As if on que Varis returned with a large sack full of 3-5ft long sticks and another with the weight gear.

"Not every enemy will carry a lightsaber. Not every enemy will carry a weapon that cuts. Some are blunt, some are large and some are nimble. We will be going over your known forms of lightsaber fighting, than we will move towards the unknown and obscure while keeping principles in mind. How to disarm, how to maneuver between attacks, how to wrap your opponent up so that they are un-able to attack. Things to keep you alive in real fights and war."

Rellik grabbed a stick from the bag and poked Reign with it while he was trying to stand stoically, an aura of anger filled the air as he spoke. "Some enemies care more about presentation or how the fight makes you feel, either through provocation or the force to actually win." With his point made he let the aura fade away. "You will be influenced, pulled, prodded and manipulated in your real fights. Today will be the same. As we finish todays lesson we will discuss the histories of the force in combat as we rest and prepare to call it a day."

Varis began to hand out the weighted clothing, armbands, headbands. Over the next hour the class was treated to grueling exercises as a warm up. All in an attempt to show them that a real fight, a real war will be endless. That the enemy will never give up and that they must persevere. For these students though, he believed this would be run of the mill.

Kallous paid close attention to the information being given. Particularly in regards to the lessons provided, which he would be attending zealously. But the knowledge that his advancement and his studies were ultimately his responsibility, that was something he found unusual… but something he could absolutely get behind. His advancement wasn't limited by a singular teacher deeming him not ready, it was limited only by his ability to learn.

That sounded excellent to him. That sounded most excellent indeed.

He demonstrated the use of aura techniques, something Kallous had never bothered to learn much about. And explained that some fights would be more about mental battle than physical. Which he definitely understood.

Then they proceeded with physical exercise. One of his all time favorite things to do. PT was easily the most important thing to Kallous, since that determined his physical power, and therefore his ability to dominate his foes through strength and skill with a blade. He threw himself into these exercises perhaps a little harder than was advisable. But as far as he was concerned, no guts, no glory.

Tests, exams, physical exercise? Looks like we'll have to work up a sweat today, and not just today. I look at the schedule he's just sent us on my datapad.
Then I look at the weighted jackets, my face tensing up a little. I take one that's adapted to my morphology, because I don't want to play with fire and I'm not here to show off that I've got the biggest one - I'd lose out for sure anyway.

Once I've put it on properly, I listen carefully to the instructions so as not to do anything stupid. Another very interesting detail I've come across is the advice to keep our weapons with us at all times, so as to be able to defend ourselves in all circumstances. This means that even here, we're not immune to being attacked, either by traitors, or as part of a training session, or by the security forces, or what have you?

When the physical exercises start, I find it hard to do my own, because I'm not very athletic to begin with - yes, I'm a scientist. I get out of breath pretty quickly and I can barely keep up, especially with these damn ballasted jackets.

I should have grabbed a bottle of water, it's a bit late now to be feeling sorry for myself I continue to painfully follow the exercises at a frantic pace, can I see the other grabbing a stick, he's using it to provoke the other Lord. Does he intend to provoke a duel?

Reign observed the students running through their drills, watched for lapses in their form and weaknesses even they themselves may not have been aware of. He saw the overexertion of Kallous, the underwhelming physicality of Lyssara.

As the hour drew near to completion, the Diarch stepped forward, calling one of the training sticks to his hand. He stamped it on the ground twice to signal an end to the training session.

Speaking with the voice his children would recognize as the "Teaching Dad" he said to the students
"These exercises, alongside your more esoteric studies, should become your life. War is endless, but in a duel, with true masters at full speed, you are looking at a fraction of time. Kallous.. you overexert yourself, doing this makes you prone to mistakes. There were openings in your form that had you been facing a practiced opponent, would have seen your head separated from your shoulders.. Lyssara, your endeavors lead you to science, and alchemy, but.. what are you to do if a Jedi..or Sith were to come after you? Your body needs to match your mind. It can not be one or the other."

Turning to his brother, yet speaking to the students he said

"Lord Rellik's designs do not often call him into conflict directly, but regardless, he has trained his body, and the use of his blade. As he knows that we must use all of the weapons at our disposal for what is to come." a small smile was brought to the Diarch's face then before he continued "Well brother, shall we show them a duel between masters? Or if any of these students are feeling brave, they may step forward"

Overexertion? He hadn’t noticed that in the slightest. He’d always operated this way, if there was something to commit to one had to commit to it fully or not at all. And how was he supposed to improve if he didn’t push himself to the point of breaking?

He banished these thoughts from his head and chastised himself. This would not have been mentioned if that were the case. Clearly there was some difference that he hadn’t figured out. There was a difference between pushing oneself beyond their limits and allowing themselves to get sloppy.

Once this train of thought finished he began going over the exercises, trying to identify specifically where he had gone wrong. And how to rectify those issues. It wouldn’t be a quick fix to be sure, but a problem properly identified was a problem half solved.

But then there was an opportunity offered to them. One Kallous would be damned if he missed! He was about to have his ass handed to him on a silver platter to be sure, by the opportunity to spar with and learn directly from a master like this was something he wouldn’t pass up.

Immediately after the Diarch finished speaking, Kallous took a step forward to volunteer. His eagerness to improve barely contained. Even with the knowledge that he was guaranteed to lose, he was undeterred. Loss taught him more than victory did anyway.

At the Diarch's request, I take a step back, as I have no desire to play with fire. The other one, however, seems ready to take a serious beating from the instructors. As for me, I'm more tactical—I know in advance that I'd lose this fight, so I'd rather observe and learn what I can from it.

If I can save my energy, I won't hesitate to do so. Especially since this weighted vest is already exhausting me to the limit. I'm not used to intense physical effort, except for recently. I joined the Rakghoul Chamber, which offers intense training sessions. I'm managing to keep up with the programs, but I'm still at the very beginning of my training. I don't even have a lightsaber yet, though that won't be the case for long—I already have a little idea of how I want to craft mine.

Determined to watch the fight, I step a little further away from the center of the room to give them space to play without dragging me into the fight. Sometimes, you need to be an observer and not reveal your hand too soon. I've already been training hard on my own, but I'll now be able to take advantage of the Diarchy's facilities.

I'm well aware that my physique doesn't work in my favor, but the same goes for my opponents—they tend to underestimate me, and that works just fine. It's something I can use to my advantage—the element of surprise. They usually don't expect a woman to put up fierce resistance. I clasp my hands behind my back, adopting a solemn posture, because I don't forget where I am. I must remain courteous.

"Go ahead, I'm watching," I say.

I offer a tight smile. I really don't feel like fighting anyone today. I'll do it if I have to, but I certainly hope not.

A Mind for battle

Reign had questioned if the two Diarch's should put a show on for the students but in the same breath requested a challenger. The young man stepped forward. Rellik saw his aspirations as a sign of determination, their challenge of an unrelenting assault would be met in kind. Where Reign saw dips in his awareness, Rellik had seen unwavering resolve. It was molten metal, waiting to be molded into a perfect gear.

Their father had taught them many things. Balance in the force, to show compassion, be a statesmen and a warrior; but also, the code of the Sith. This Kallous, showed he was taught by the sith and wanted to prove he was a warrior. Let him, Diarch Reign Diarch Reign
"Give the young man what he wants. You wish to show him power, he wants to show you unwavering strength."

Rellik gave a welcoming bow with his arms pointed towards the mats. Almost as a performer welcoming a guest upon a stage. He spoke words of confidence to the young man as he approached before parting. "I can feel it within you. Drive, anger, resolve. If you truly want the force to set you free, than use it in its entirety. A monster is not free, he is bound to his instincts. True power comes from separating the moments of being an animal with the moments of knowledge. This will make you a master. Un-killable." He patted Kallous on the shoulder, giving him a squeeze as he moved by.

He moved over by Varis on the far side of the room and watched as the battle unfolded. Merely thinking towards Lyssara as the two men began to fight. He peaked into the mind of the female student. There was fire. A burning brightness that seemed to burn forever upwards with ambition and knowledge.

He spoke to the woman through Telepathy, using Qâzoi Kyantuska he pulled her attention to him.
"I can sense your intellect and yearn for power. Have you thought about how you will use such things?" He moved his eyes to look directly at the woman. Eyes calm and bright, a dark shining yellow. As if looking into a perfect star for new life. a small smile across his face. "I can see the passion in you for more. I can show you things un-known for millennia, magics, alchemy and dark science. Become my first direct pupil, the facilities and wealth of the Diarchy will be yours. In return, I wish to see this fire inside of you burn bright. A sharing of freedom and knowledge if you will."

I hear a voice in my head; the other Sith is speaking to me, making a most intriguing proposition. Unfortunately, I don't yet know how to use telepathy to answer his question. He is offering to make me his apprentice and teach me the ways of knowledge and science.

Without saying a word, I look in his direction and nod downward to silently signal my acceptance. The flame of knowledge burns within me.

Does this mean I officially become his apprentice? I wonder what kind of resources the diarchy has that could be useful to me. Placing a hand on my chin, I ponder. He is offering to become my master; I won't pass up such an interesting opportunity to grow within the faction.

I let a small smile form on my lips before clasping my hands behind my back as I had them earlier. I am just as eager to prove myself as the other, though my interests differ. I intend to shine in other fields, particularly in science. Finally, I give a verbal response to Diarch Relik.

"Give me knowledge, and I will give you the fire of science. Master Relik"

I couldn't be clearer about my intentions. I'll also have to craft my own lightsaber later. Though, as has been mentioned, wielding a lightsaber in combat is not mandatory. A lightsaber is a symbol a symbol of power.

Kallous wasn’t entirely surprised by this move. The Sith did similar things, the moment an apprentice steps forward to fight they attack without further warning to make them taste defeat and fuel their anger. So while he wasn’t altogether sure what to expect from this Diarch, he did know what the Sith did, and this was an eventuality he was prepared for.

He did not however have time to call a staff of his own, so he would have to do something different. And he decided to get aggressive enough, quickly enough.

Stepping into his instructor’s space he threw his pal directly into the Diarch’s midsection with all the force power he could muster, intending to send him back so he could have room enough to call a staff to his hand and meet him with a weapon. It would also let him distinguish himself early, he wouldn’t win, but if he could give the Diarch a bruise or two then he would certain prove himself to him.

If the Force Push/Punch succeeded in its task, he wouldn’t have to worry about the staff striking him, but if the Diarch had enough forethought to guard himself against that attack, then this fight was already over.
