The Broken KnightA Knight of the New Jedi Order, Darien was first taken in by the Jedi when he was only an infant, having been found on the steps of the Jedi Temple. Sensing his strong connection to the Force, the Jedi did their best to train him in its ways, with Darien being a quick and eager learner. One of his principal teachers was Master Aldric Kovahn, a Jedi Master who would become a sort of surrogate father for him. Master Kovahn, however, was tragically killed in battle against a Sith Lord, with Darien bearing witness to his death. This would cause him to harbour a lingering resentment of the Sith, one that he has to be vigilant of, lest it develops into a festering hatred leaving him vulnerable to the Dark Side. In honour of his fallen teacher and father figure, Darien would take up his name to keep his master's legacy alive.
In light of this fatal encounter, he would put himself through rigorous martial training, becoming one of the more skilled lightsaber combatants in the order and eventually becoming a Jedi Guardian, dedicating himself to being a stalwart defender of the Galactic Alliance and its people, and working tirelessly to bring peace and justice to a galaxy in chaos. However, Darien would gradually lose sight of what it meant to be a Jedi, spending the following years commanding soldiers of the Alliance in numerous battles, taking on more of the mindset of a soldier, waging war against whatever foe they came up against, though no opponent could compare to the Brotherhood of the Maw.
Darien led a campaign against the Brotherhood for months, one of the most harrowing experiences of his life. Through it, he witnessed first-hand the cruelty of the Maw. Innocents were brutally murdered, his men massacred without mercy, and worse atrocities that he wishes he could forget. Darien knew the horrors of war, but nothing like this. It wasn't a war, it was a slaughter. It was a nightmare. It was hell. The Maw campaign pushed him to the brink, both physically and mentally, committing acts that to this day he would never forget, with him nearly falling to the Dark Side in the process.
After the campaign finally came to a close, Darien came back as a shell of his former self. He returned to the Jedi Temple in hopes to heal himself spiritually from the damage the ordeal had caused him and attempting to reconnect with the Force and the Jedi way. Although he is now setting out to be the Jedi he once swore to become, he still struggles with memories of the horrors he experienced, and the dark emotions he feels within, especially the hatred he still feels towards the Sith, now amplified due to the atrocities he experienced because of them.
All he can do is attempt to move forward from it all, to do better, and hope he doesn't lose himself along the way.

PTSD- Darien suffered extensive mental trauma due to the horrors he experienced during a failed campaign into Maw territory. While he has since healed a lot of the damage to his psyche, some scars still remain. He is still haunted by nightmares of the things that he witnessed, but the worst ones are about the things that he did...
