- Greatly increases the physical longevity of the wielder, slowing the process of physical aging so much that it almost appears to be suspended entirely.
- Double as an effective tool to heal the wielder or others through the Force, granting a passive boost to all healing abilities, or greatly amplifying the power of any healing when used in deep meditation.
- Longevity: The artifact heavily slows the process of aging for whoever carries it and is attuned to it, owing to a deep connection and constant channelling of the Force into the wielder.
- Healing: As an ancient shard from the Healing Crystals of Fire, this artifact can be used to facilitate Force healing by the wielder, either for themselves or others, redirecting the flow of the Force it provides into whoever is most at need of healing; much like that which it was once carved from, it is even able to bring somebody back from the brink of death.
- Bright as a Star: Carrying this crystal, due to its powerful and deep connection to the Force, makes it all-but-impossible to hide through stealth powers that rely on suppressing one's own Force signature. If you're wielding this, you're out and proud as a user of the Force, whether you like it or not.
- Slow to Use: Any great act of healing requires a deep, meditative trance on the part of the healer; while it does still passively amplify various healing abilities, to mend any serious injuries is not something that can be safely done on the battlefield.
- Force Voids: As with any such Force-connected artifact or being, when in an area that effectively voids the Force (such as around Ysalimiri or Void Stones), the pendant is rendered entirely null and inert, and any effects it has are suspended until no longer within the void.
In ancient times of the galaxy, many millennia in the past, there were multiple Jedi who had uncovered the art of greatly extending their natural lifespan, enabling even human Jedi among them to live upwards of hundreds of years through their wisdom and understanding of the Force. While in modern times, such an art is essentially lost, the tales of Jedi such as Shayoto, and his master, and their master before them, still live on to be taught to younglings and Padawans. Like many, Cotan, when first taken by his master as an apprentice, learned of Shayoto and those of his line, aiding his master in the duties of an archivist. The thought had always been one that intrigued him—uncovering this lost art, and enabling the wisest Jedi of this generation to be able to live on and continue to teach beyond just what ability history and holocrons would give them; however, as his life quickly became consumed with duty and battle, such thoughts fell to the wayside.
It wasn't until many years later, aiding the Outer Planets Alliance on a journey to the companion galaxy known as Firefist, did such thoughts return to him. Called away from the main convoy by the Force, Cotan engaged in a great amount of exploration on his own, retracing the steps of ancient Jedi who had fled from the main galaxy during the Hundred-Year Darkness. It became rapidly clear to him that the schism had pursued them, however, followers of the Bogan and Ashla alike doing battle on numerous unnamed worlds; on one, he delved deep into the tomb of one of those Dark Jedi, seeking out a spirit of the light that called to him. Unfortunately, however, he found himself trapped and held deep within; it was only with the aid of Master Jend-Ro Quill that he was able to escape, a dark spirit subdued and finally put to rest, and with an ancient Kyber crystal pendant in his hands.
Over the time that has passed, he has meditated on the crystal quite a bit, seeking to uncover what secrets it held; eventually, the echoes of the spirit that first called him to it spoke again, revealing that it came from a similar line, and in life, this spirit had carved away a portion of the Healing Crystals of Fire, imbuing the crystal with their knowledge of longevity to ensure that others devoted to the Balance of the Force might be able to take a more active hand in preserving and safeguarding the Jedi and their traditions. With that in mind, Cotan has begun carrying the pendant regularly, regularly meditating on the crystal and attempting to commune with the echo of a spirit inside of it, to gain their knowledge of how to lengthen a being's lifespan beyond what a connection to the Force already might; he has yet to realize that the crystal itself already does so, nor has he noticed yet that he's not aging anywhere near the rate that somebody should in a life like his.
Of course, while he carries it, and it can be easily sensed, he doesn't wear it openly. Many such artifacts from the same time period were quite ornamented, ostentatious, even, in nature; Cotan prefers more understated articles, so he carries it in a pocket rather than around his neck.
