Darro Vikorr

The corporate center of Narg was buzzing with life, from reporters to salarymen. In fact, it has been for the last eight months, as the board of directors of TransGalMeg Industries have been in a heated and fierce debate over who should fill the vacancy left by the death of the prior Chief Executive Officer. According to local reports, there's multiple front runners to fill the seat, from established individuals on the board, to outsiders who promise fresh change. Yet, there is one individual who almost disqualified himself entirely due to an emotional outburst in the first rounds of the negotiations, that being Darro Vikorr. Yet, even now, in the fifty-second round of negotiations, he seems promising to the board: He is one of them, yet he is a fresh face, someone who may be able to be manipulated and bent to the will of the other directors. How little they knew about the man brought curiosity, yet uncertainty. His prior outbursts may be forgiven to satiate the board's desire to puppeteer him, or the prospect thereof.
As the board convenes, Darro sits in his usual seat towards the end of the table. It was only minutes ago he had courted three of the twenty board members to his side. They desired power, a friend in the big seat. Little did they know, they were pawns in a greater plan.
Darro zoned out as the initial votes were cast. Like usual, he was last. He was the youngest - and newest - member of the board. He voted for himself. Even with the three on his side, and a couple of others who voted with the scent they were picking up among the table, he did not achieve a majority. Despite his prior emotional outburst, Darro decides to speak on his own behalf. He believes he could maneuver his way to courting more of the board members for himself.
"Esteemed directors, I understand that we have been debating for nearly a year who should occupy the role we all have opinions on. Some want the Chief Executive to have less power, some wish for the Chief Executive to be eliminated all together, and to run the company solely as a board."
He pauses a moment.
"Yet, we forget our long history. Nearly a millenia we've upheld a system, and for nearly a millenia we have seen record profits. I say to you today, don't vote for me because you want change. Vote for me to follow along the path that has led us to this point, to the prosperity we experience. Should we not choose a Chief Executive by the end of this year, our investors may lose confidence in our abilities as a company, more than they already have. It would be a shame if foreign companies were to overtake us, a shame if they put a dent in our profits."
He taps into the hatred of the Nargians. These humans are known for their extreme xenophobia.
"Instead, I insist for you to place trust in myself, in somebody who knows the company's history, somebody who will honor it and continue it. Should I fail to stabilize and grow the company, I will resign. I set forth a deadline of five years for this. Should I fail, I will resign my position and seat on this board."
Darro presents himself almost as a sacrafice, an option to end the gridlock that has, unquestionably, put the confidence issue in the limelight. Yet, little does the board know, he has no intention of ever resigning, should they place their hate-fueled faith in him.
Murmurs are heard around the board room, namely expletives addressed at other non-humanoid races. These murmurs turn from the occasional insult of xenos to serious consideration for someone who appears to have similar values as them, yet being a young man, presumptively easy to steer in the direction of their own interests.
It was not long after that, and a few private meetings to shore up promises with other members of the board, that the fifty-third round of voting occurred. This one, albeit not decisive, secured a majority for Darro Vikorr. He was to become the new Chief Executive Officer of TransGalMeg. Many among the board celebrated, as they felt they would be puppetmasters and profiteers off of this young Chief Executive's lack of experience.
Oh, how they were mistaken.
