Corellian Council Political Parties

rOSupck.jpg

The Corellian Sector is a big place with lots of people and lots of different opinions about how the Sector should be run and even how the Alliance itself should be run. There is always room for more but I would like to introduce a few to get folks started and sort of help frame where I have been looking to go for the future of Corellia.

The Five Brothers: A political party inspired by the Five Worlds that once held leadership over the Corellian System in ages past. Then, the Five Worlds led an independence movement leading to the Second Galactic Civil War. Now they fight for an autonomous Corellian System. Established following the Omni Crisis, the Five Brothers found prominence after the Battle of Kuat. Spearheaded by party leader and then-Senator Lisza Starseeker, the Five Brothers led the secession of Corellia from the New Republic and formed the foundation of what would become the Corellian Confederation. Over the years, the party has shifted from a Corellian Sector perspective and begun to focus on the micro. Believing that the five worlds of the Corellian System should leave self-determination of the other systems in the Confederation up to themselves. This stems from a belief that the Confederation has become too entangled in systems outside of Corellia as well as wider Galactic Alliance politics, putting Corellian System lives at risk and stretching an already thin budget to the wire. They are believers in military spending, but only in the defense of the Corellian System and "encourage" the other systems in the Confederation to field their own defense forces. Their shift from Sector to System support has left many of their constituents confounded and recently the party has developed a bit of a superiority complex with many considering In-System Corellians are the only true Corellians.

Children of the Belt: Formed in the years following the Cataclysm, the Children of the Belt were mostly "Belters", people who have chosen to work and live in Socorro's Belt. Blue Collar workers who risk their lives every day on the asteroids and in the minor shipyards, they fight for workers' rights, heavier regulation of local corporations, and for reducing the influence of foreigners, especially in the Belt. Since their founding, they have been tied up with the terrorist organization known as the Forgotten Sons, a group that gained extreme notoriety after they incited a riot that resulted in the deployment of CDF vessels against the merchant fleet of Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen . Of course, they deny this relationship despite many prominent leaders of the Forgotten Sons praising the work of the Children. They also believe that Socorro's Belt should not be counted as a part of Corellia, but as a new Sixth brother to the Corellian System. They find allies wherever they can and are often found on space stations, mining operations, and factories throughout the Confederation.

Centerpoint Party: Centerpoint Party was the oldest party of the Corellian Council. Heavily militant, the party supports most defense legislation as well as laws protecting the rights of private ship captains and the shipping industry in general. The Centerpoint Party was the "safe" option and the most populous among the citizens of Corellia. Dedicated to the defense and self-determination of the entire sector, they saw shipbuilders, factory workers, and shippers as indispensable. However, their focus on defense also extended outside of the Confederation along the Corellian Trade Spine and Corellian Run. Some considered this party to be expansionist and the War Hawk Rebel of the Corellian Council. Diktat Yularen Nova was the most prominent member of this political party, as is Senator Dracken Pryce. As a result of recent actions against Byss and the disgrace of Corellia at the Battle of Coruscant, the party has taken a dip in public opinion. They often try to work with the Children of the Belt, however, they mostly consider the Belt as part of Corellia the planet and not its own entity.

Corellian Corporate Council: A political party that mimics the Corporatist Bloc in Galactic Alliance politics. Many of their members are anti-regulation and related in some way or another to the Trade Federation. Comprised of big megacorps and the people that work in or own them they are the most well-funded party and are heavy lobbyists both on Corellia and on Coruscant. With profit always on the mind, they absolutely despise the Children of the Belt for their activism. They often butt heads with groups like the Rimward Trade League and other shipping interests.
