Time and distance stretched in bizarre ways in the Netherworld, a single step could move you lightyears in one place, and could be a simple crossing of a room in another. It made mapping it complicated, but not impossible. Lina had done it once before, before the Planeshift changed the landscape, she’d mapped certain routes but they had been her own, she’d walked them so often she didn’t need waymarkers.

Now, however, she was carving the paths for more than just herself which meant pausing now and then to erect totem poles of shadow and sinew, glowing green flames that could be seen from a distance that connected one portal to another. She was in the process of crafting one, pulling strands from the ground itself and weaving them into something, shadowy wings flickering like smoke in a breeze.

As always here, she was not alone. The Ukdta Caumatirsiw were her constant companions here, the warji’s reached with elongated limbs digging deep into the blackened earth pulling up strands to pass to her to add to the growing marker. It was therapeutic work, peaceful, even.

Until it wasn’t.

Panic shifted through the flock at her feet, clicks and barks growing in volume as their attention shifted to something she could not see. Lina paused, stepping back from the pole to follow their gaze, wondering what had set her little herd off. Something familiar tingled up her spine, her obsidian gaze narrowing. Then she felt it, a split second before she saw it, something ripping through the plane without care.

Lina did not have time to move, she didn’t have time for anything, one moment there was a feeling, the next something enormous collided with her, screaming souls warped into wings tangled with her own shadows as the Netherworld shifted, they hit the ground once, then twice before the third time dragged them so deep into the ground they formed a small crater.

Lina groaned, detangling herself enough to sit up, looking down at the golden eyes woman now settled beneath her.

“You do like to make an entrance, don’t you?”

MERCY

EMPRESS | WARLORD | STAR-ARM

Location: The Netherworld | Direct Tags: Lina Ovmar Lina Ovmar

.

More often than not she was alone within the Netherworld.

Her visits were short, violent and little of the native life wished to be caught up in its wake. It was a realm of emotions, feelings and Mercy was often the most violent person in the span of lightyears in this place. So caught up with the revelry of travel, Mercy didn't even realize something was in her path, until it was far too late.

The collision was violent and yet not at the same time. Ambiguous as most of the Nether was. By the time the crash was over and done with, Mercy was looking up at a familiar face.

Eyebrows rose.

"You know, if you want to meet with me, there are better ways than standing right in the middle of one of my usual pathways." Mercy said dryly, but she also didn't attempt to push Lina off of her either.

Their relationship was... complicated. She didn't trust the woman within any throwing distance, since she could throw her quite a lot. But Mercy trusted very few people to begin with. So that wasn't an obstacle towards making good relationships. And for all of Lina's arrogance, Mercy wasn't particularly worried that the former would be able to get on top, if they ever got into a fight.

This situation aside.

"Oh, dear, you don't look too good. What's wrong, sweetheart?"

Reaching out to cup Lina's face.

ERASE THE PAST

“Your usual pathways?” Lina scoffed.

“Please, you are not that precise or consistent. I’ve seen the scars you leave in your wake, Empress, both on this plane and that of the living.”

Despite the sharpness of her tongue Lina was smiling, a hand settling on Mercy’s chest as she made no more to get off her, that was until Mercy’s expression changed to one of concern. Lina’s fingers snapped to clasp around Mercy’s wrist, only to pass through, drawing a hiss of annoyance before her corporeal form caught up and they closed fast.

Mercy’s hand had found her face, but Lina pulled it away before climbing off her and to her feet, stepping back to dust the dirt from her robes.

“The answer to the question is neither simple nor short.” she straightened, turning her attention to the small crater they had made. “You truly are a destructive force.”

Touchy, touchy... Mercy thought to herself.

She knew Lina to be prickly at times, because of a history that the Sith Lord had never bothered to poke around. It would have invited a counter-offensive into her own history, which was the last thing she needed. But she liked Lina overall. An arrogant creature, who was selfish to an incredible degree, which suited Mercy just fine.

As someone who was just as self-interested if not more so.

“Please, you are not that precise or consistent. I’ve seen the scars you leave in your wake, Empress, both on this plane and that of the living.”

"I might not be precise, but I am certainly consistent... in the scars I leave behind." Mercy purred with a teasing tone as her eyebrow lofted at the Empress. She could practically taste the italics in that word.

"What's wrong, darling, do you not like the title that I conquered through blood and fire?"

She lounged for a moment more, watching Lina climb back up to her feet, only after a few more breaths returning herself to verticality.

The crater made Mercy smug.

“The answer to the question is neither simple nor short.”

"Well, do you need a lift out of here? That whole hand phase shit you got going doesn't look too good on you right now. And you can tell me what is wrong on the way out."

Despite herself, the teasing tone earned a smirk, her dark eyes flicking over Mercy’s form appreciatively. In another life, at a different time, she rather liked the giant woman’s company. She wondered, if the stars had aligned differently…

"What's wrong, darling, do you not like the title that I conquered through blood and fire?"

The thought evaporated as she rolled her eyes. “Titles are temporary my dear, empires are fleeting little things, unimportant in the grand schemes of the galaxy, especially those built on bloodlust.”

She contemplated the offer of a lift, not because she needed it, but because she wanted the company. “Out of here is only helpful if you have a permanent portal in place I can draw from, if not you may do me more harm than good.”

Lina paused, clearly thinking. “You can take me to the end of your journey, if you wish, I can carve my own way out from there.”

More than once she had wondered what Lina could have become to her.

They were carved from similar personalities, even if they reached different destinations.

But Lina's loyalty lied elsewhere. To herself, yes, which Mercy understood. But also to two others, which Mercy did not. Darth Strosius Darth Strosius and Madrona A’Mia Madrona A’Mia were brilliant folk. Or at least the tree was, Mercy was still uncertain what she thought of Strosius, besides enjoying his feistiness. But being so beholden to other people was disturbing to Mercy.

“Titles are temporary my dear, empires are fleeting little things, unimportant in the grand schemes of the galaxy, especially those built on bloodlust.”

"I agree." Mercy said with a laugh, completely unbothered. "But that doesn't matter to me. The empire will last for a day, a week, a month, a year." The Titan shrugged there. "I will enjoy it spoils, until it breaks under the pressure of my War."

Nothing else mattered beyond the War.

“Out of here is only helpful if you have a permanent portal in place I can draw from, if not you may do me more harm than good.”

"A permanent portal? Why ever would you need that, darling?" She offered her hand to Lina, after which she'd jump up, casually dragging Lina out of the hole Mercy had made with their impact.

Mercy's hand settled on her hip while squeezing Lina's with her other.

"You know, I missed your irreverance. You are one of the few who can pull it off, without giving me the urge to rip heads off."
