Lady Yun-Harla one of the great Lords of the Fringe Confederacy had put a project before him, and Sargon was not known for failure. He had been charged with increasing defenses throughout the Fringe, and Bakura would be his pilot project. He knew the planet better then any other, and once he had a fully planned out process for creating a heavily fortified world he could move on to Annaj, and others. Once Annaj's defenses were complete the Fringe would be funding the defense project on every major world within its territory. It was a loud statement to the galaxy, we are here to stay.
Teams of engineers were meeting in his office as they poured their attention over a dozen different models of weapons, and shields. In the end the choices were made based on their ability to stand alone, and efficiency. An enveloping planetary shield would be built to completely shut out the world from enemy ships when needed.On Anaaj he might go so far as to back it up with a stutter shield, but he didn't feel it necessary on Bakura. If they could in fact create a field large enough to protect the shipyards it would be an utter success. That however was an unknown at the time.
As for weaponry with a stutter shield ion cannons would have been more effective, but even so on Bakura with the orbital shipyards only some sections would really be open enough for the broad aim of a planetary based ion cannon. Instead they would be going with defensive space stations, but on planets without shipyards ion cannons would be included.
As the project's scope grew the Fringe would include a wide net of hyperspace warning beacons to alert them to any incoming traffic. This would be doubly effective if the new hyperspace lane was approved as between it, and the Sanctuary Pipeline the greater bulk of travel could be monitored. As for those who chose to use alternate routes to enter into Fringe Space the beacons would notify the nearest fleet, and set them on an intercept course.
The last stage of the defense plan was the creation of a Star Destroyer Class Interdictor ship which would allow the Fringe to lock down an enormous area, and in the times of highest security simply block off the most important planets. There was one other secret agenda on the Lady Yun-Harla's plan, the cloaking of the Chimera. On Yalara there had been enough stygium crystal to cloak an entire planet, and that stygium would be used to refit the Chimera with a cloaking device.
These were all projects before the Fringe one of dozens to increase its security, and power in the galaxy. Ion cannons, planetary shields, hyperspace warning beacons, orbital defense platforms, a new ship model, and upgrading one of the deadliest ships in the galaxy. It was no small list of things to do, but the Fringe was a Confederacy full of different types from soldiers to scientist, and together they could make all this and more happen
