SETTING INFORMATION

Military Base Name: Confederacy of Independent Systems Military Academy (CISMA)
Nicknames: “Sis-Muh” as its acronym is pronounced.
Classification: Joint Services Academy and Training Institution
Location: Golbah City, Geonosis
Affiliation: Confederacy of Independent Systems
Size: 1,135 square kilometers
Population: Moderate
  • Academic Staff: 1,998
  • Support Staff: 1,368
  • Cadets: 11,462
  • Garrison: 29,404
Demographics: Reflective of Golbah City and the CIS.

Accessibility: Not a secret location per se, however portions of the facility and what actually happens therein remain closely-guarded secrets of the highest order; visitors tour the campus and many have been there, though some portions remain off-limits and under heavy security, and a few remain unknown to all but the very highest echelons of CIS leaders.

Description: A gorgeous and sprawling campus of stone and brick buildings, cloistered courtyards, gardens, and parade grounds sits at the heart of the Academy. Feeling like one of the ancient universities or academies one might expect to find on Naboo, Csilla, or Galidraan, it easily holds all the trappings of such venerable institutions as those: Student-run pubs and butteries beneath the stately dormitories, large libraries with cavernous reading rooms, laroon-wood paneled lecture halls, and collections of art and artifacts of military sort throughout. It screams tradition and prestige, though it has only a small bit of the former, it has gained much of the latter through the exploits and accomplishments of its alumni. A large athletic complex sits to one side, while to another, a heavily-secured spaceport, and to yet another, a standard military base for field training and other exercises. The place is always teeming with activity. A series of secret, underground bunkers and complexes were constructed beneath the campus and elsewhere on the base, wherein some of the Confederacy’s most top-secret training and research and development into highly-classified military projects occurs. Known only to a select few, this highly secretive and compartmentalized labyrinth is not even fully understood by those who have worked or trained there, as they only see of it what they absolutely must.

[OOC: This place is analogous to the United States’ West Point and Annapolis military academies, Yale University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, and US Marine Corps Base - Quantico, US Marine Base – Camp Pendleton, US Army Bases - Ft. Benning and Ft. Bragg, US CIA Headquarters (Langley, VA), and US CIA Training Facility (a.k.a. “The Farm”), all rolled into one!]

SECURITY: Maximum
Given the unusual amount of traffic by ranking CIS officials, military officers, corporate executives, as well as broad variety of training and services housed here, the CISMA is absolutely one of the most and best-secured facilities in the galaxy. Hidden batteries of air defense missiles, planetary shields, heavy ion cannons, and a highly complex and sophisticated security system are just a fraction of the CISMA defenses, which stack together with their considerable ground and air assets, Geonosis’ planetary defenses, and so forth.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Believing that the key to the CIS’ continued success lay in the expertise of its leadership, the Confederacy of Independent Systems established the Academy not long after its formation, to deliberately train and develop its future corps of officers, and went on to expand to include training and professional development for CIS security, law enforcement, intelligence, and non-commissioned officers, warrant officers, and enlisted personnel. Modeled after the grand universities and academies of the galaxy, the sprawling campus and military base is the pinnacle of training facilities.

Well-guarded, it stands to the northeast of Golbah City, and conducts training – either on-site or via HoloNet-based courses – for more than 30,000 personnel each year. Incoming cadets are selected through a painstaking process, and training is both mentally and physically challenging.

Among one of the quirkier traditions of the campus is the “Stand Your Ground” rule, strictly enforced among cadets, which requires each cadet to accept a challenge to unarmed singular combat issued to them by fellow cadets or staff at any time night or day. Thought to breed a spirit of aggression and tough-minded competition, no cadet may refuse a challenge and cadets may face up to four such challenges daily. As a result, there is no shortage of cadets with black eyes, fattened lips, or bruises among underclassmen. The rule does not apply to upperclassmen, who are believed to have proven themselves if they have made it this far. This reflects the “Win at All Costs” and “Never Quit” mentality of its graduates, who today occupy the highest echelons of CIS uniformed services, law enforcement agencies, and intelligence services. Demanding schedules, fierce competition, and top-tier training produce alumni who are well-prepared for the rigors of lives in service to the CIS, and forms among a camaraderie and esprit-de-corps second to none. Easily on par with the old Imperial Academy system, or that of the Chiss Ascendancy, those who graduate from CISMA – make no mistake – are tough, capable, and fearless leaders utterly devoted to the survival and supremacy of the CIS.
