Cold War poll

The OS and GR FA currently have a proposal on the table that Taeli has explained HERE

Once there is a clear consensus on whether we should take the proposal mentioned in that forum, or if we should go in a different direction we will move forward. If we decide we want to go a different route than the one given there, Taeli will have to take it back to the OS FAs and work out the new terms and play it by ear until there is an agreement.

Though, I am pretty sure both sides are working pretty hard to make sure a deal is reached as quickly as it can be.

Is there any real possibility that won't be the scenario that we go by? Seems unlikely that anyone feels like rocking the boat on this, but I guess anything is possible so I think the responsible choice is to wait until everything is done and dusted to roll out the financial reform bill.

Thanks [member="Cecily de Demici"] for the link :)

Well, the input we get from everyone really will have an impact on the decision that is made regarding that scenario and while I am in favor of the one proposed, I am not opposed to hearing other ideas and I am not so sold on it that my personal opinions can't be changed.

The only tricky part about the situation is that whatever scenario the faction members decide on supporting, the FAs then have to be able to go and get the OS to agree to it. So, it adds another layer to the conversation that just makes the process longer, but at the end of the day the members are the most important part of the decision.

I'll leave specific reasons why I like the proposal for the other topic.

Given my question is not about the catalyst/scenario, this seems the best place to ask it.

Could someone please give me a precise but succinct definition of what a Cold War will mean in OOC and IC terms? I have trawled these threads but nothing corresponds to what I read on the OS site nor what writers are telling me on Skype.

As we've voted and made a decision, I'm presuming we CAN give a definitive answer?

Well, it is a little confusing because the poll currently allows members to vote for both options. However, if you remove those who voted yes to both a hot war and a cold war, the results of this poll become a little more clear in favor of the cold war.

Anyway, assuming there really is a majority in favor of the cold war, the way it has always been described to me from the beginning is:

1. The GR and OS will do battle through proxy organizations (assuming this means something like your new FU group Corvus)

2. Both sides will engage in espionage including sending spies and assassination attempts

3. Rapid territory and alliances 'races' as both sides attempt to bolster their 'house' to appear more unassailable.

4. Maybe some Red Scare elements in politics? That would be fun.

5. Cooperative dominions between the OS and GR where either side would help the other by sending diplomatic or covert military opposition to the other.

Basically, I suppose it was envisioned to be almost identical to the US-Soviet Cold War (not fully aware of all the details on the SWTOR cold war, but let's assume it's probably like that too?)

Though, like I said, I don't think a clear decision has been reached. These are just things I'd personally like to see and how it was described to me when it was first posed. So I'm sorry if it doesn't quite answer your question :/

Many thanks for sharing your understanding of it because that is NOT what I've heard from some senior OS writers.

I think a definitive answer is called for, rather than beliefs/suppositions - given I am hearing two different versions.

As an outsider looking in, it appears no agreement was made on what a Cold War would actually entail BEFORE we voted - but I am glad to be corrected on this. Actually I hope to be corrected on this.

:)

For the time being, I'll go ahead and close this topic until our FO and FA have had time to review the questions posed here and answer them.

Also in an attempt to preserve the poll results at the time Gen announced on behalf of the FA that they would deliberating based on the Faction opinion. I am taking that to mean the poll closed, but Taeli can correct me on this if I'm wrong.
