Codex v2.2.3: Lore Update

Codex Lore Forum

The following are the initial templates that Codex has made for the first version of the Lore Creation forum. We plan to eventually expand as we see fit and find needs of. The idea behind only starting with four categories was to get the ball rolling and allow for both the community and the Codex to get their feet wet. After that we plan on further developing the Lore section of Codex.

A note on how the Lore Forum is going to be handled. It will not have the same regimented judging as the rest of codex and how factory is run. This is essentially the answer to use having a Wikipedia without having to actually make a true Wiki. The only section of the Lore Creation that would fall under heavy judgement is the Chronicle Template. Beyond that, most of this is all going to be so that the community can flesh out other parts of their character(s) and the world around them.

The Forum will open later on this evening ~ 9pm pst. Please note that the 3 submission rule does apply within the Lore Forum as well. Please remember to be respectful and kind to other writers when submitting things on Lore. If Lore becomes a means to harass and belittle the Lore Creation will be removed and no longer discussed.

Categories Lore 1.0

Organization Template 1.0:
The organization template is meant to cover several groups, this is different than the NPC unit template for a couple of reasons. The biggest difference between the unit template is that these are to describe the organization - nothing combat wise.
The Organization Template will cover:

  • Families/Dynasties

  • Clans/Tribes

  • PC & NPC Groups that aren’t primarily meant for combat
The reason we decided to use Organizations as a template was because we did notice an increase desire to flesh out groups, such as the Mandalorian Clans, but because they were not technically NPC only groups, they didn’t really have a place in the NPC submission forum. The organization template will remedy that.

Chronicle Template 1.0
The Chronicle template is for those that want to expand on board events in an unbiased account. These accounts are heavy in research pulling from the actual role plays and linking back to them. This allows for members who are older to elaborate on events that leaves our newer members questioning the delicate details. Also allows members who have their own events happening: such as the Member run events and the End-Game event we recently had – to have something living in description form.
The following is covered by the Chronicle Template:
  • Invasions

  • Rebellions

  • Board – Wide events (Netherworld, Dark Harvest, Galactic Games)

  • Member run events (End Game, A.M.B.E.R. Alert)

Chronicle Template
This template should be used to create detailed accounts of events that have transpired from an objective out-of-character perspective. This template is NOT for in-character accounts of events that occurred.

  • Image Credit: How to properly source your images

  • Links: [Provide a link to the thread you are chronicling as well as any other relevant links. If linking a specific post, please briefly describe the events linked.]

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Event Name: [This can be the name of the event in-character, or the name of the thread it houses.]
  • Participants: [Provide links to the participants of this event on either side. If organizations (i.e: factions, companies, NPC groups) are listed, individual characters should not be. If there are multiple sides, please separate them and their participants using bulletpoints or other similar formatting.]

  • Results: [What was achieved? Did a group make a monumental discovery? Did a faction obliterate a populace? Who won?]

CHRONICLE INFORMATION
In detail (at least six paragraphs), please detail an unbiased and objective account of the events that transpired. Deliberately using subjective information or slandering other writers may incur a ban from the Codex. If something major happened, please link the post(s) in which it happened.

Does the Codex plan to regulate this at all such as with companies in the Factory?

Currently when adding locations to a company one needs to actually show that said company expanded there with a thread. I know you mention it needs to be added in the Historical Information Section, but I could just annotate my organization is in 20 different locations and explain how we got there all in one Sub. That seems way too easy comparatively.

Second, will the Codex at all be tracking the "Domain" aspect of this? Of course Codex Judges will stop people from saying "WE OWN THIS ENTIRE PLANET/SECTOR/ZONE", but down the line people will eventually forget and we'll have significant overlap. Especially in popular canon areas(Coruscant, Korriban, etc). Eventually there will be conflicts of who owns what and these Codex subs will undoubtedly be used as 'proof' of ownership. So is there a plan to track that at all?

EDIT:
Just thought of this as well.

Are we going to be tracking who has influence over what? I can see this having devastating effect for invasions, rebellions, and even dominions where a subbed organization has "influence" on a planet and then someone comes after it and attempts to use the Codex sub in the Narrative. How will that work out?

I think this is a fantastic step in the right direction towards what the board needs more of; creativity. Well done all of you who worked so hard to refine this--and all of you who work so hard to continue to provide us such an awesome service, pro bono.

No. If you can't sufficiently justify it, you will be asked to make edits commensurate with what is appropriate.

There are no plans to track anything at this time. We may from time to time ask that major parties be mentioned if there is an obvious relationship that would be had, but it will be up to the community to be proactive, rather than Codex staff to dig for every subject matter that passes through our doors.

Are we going to be tracking who has influence over what? It's no different than minor factions, companies, or NPC groups having a preexisting influence. Please see the rules for dominions, invasions, and rebellions to see who may participate in those threads.

1. Okay, so if I say have an organization that has expanded all over the galaxy through threads I can basically just list every region of space I'm in as long as I have justification for doing so? Do I need threads or can I point out a narrative as to the reason for this?

2. So the burden is going to lay on the community/submitters for information that the Codex approves? Meaning If I sub one place and then someone else subs something about it the Codex won't point out/have a reference to the fact that I've already done so?

3. Am I to understand the Influence section won't really have any substantive quality to it then? More so than current Codex subs I mean.

Also please do not get me wrong, I'm not asking this to be argumentative. I have several very large Chaos "Organizations" which I intend on subbing. I am attempting to ascertain the limits, restrictions, and ultimate method of best subbing these organizations which I have built up over the years.

[member="Alric Kuhn"]

Several companies and organizations can have influence in the same regions. On chaos no matter what they won't have the same power or presence as a major faction because our rules. Of course your company can have some influence in territories.

Think of it like phone companies and cable companies, theres different company influences etc, so if you sub an organization that has influence on the x location on x world etc and someone does the same - Codex isnt going to tell them no. Its not going to be hard regulated.

Again, this is fluff and a chance for you and others to put a one stop place for people to read and enjoy what you've created over the years.
