Strengths:

  • Gravity Well Generators: Gravity well generators not only permit interdiction but give this vessel options for forestalling hyperspace impacts, such as ramming attempts. In a non-combat capacity, it can also prevent accidental hyperspace collision by unsuspecting travellers.

  • Redundant Life Support Systems: Redundant, high-capacity life support systems allow this vessel to carry very large numbers of passengers if necessary. Additionally, having redundant systems allows for the ship and its passengers provides a maximum survival potential in the event of a severe or catastrophic failure due to damage or other extenuating circumstances. Each compartment in the vessel contains its own limited duration life support system in addition to the primary system. Potential secondary mission profiles include evacuation and mass transit.

  • Advanced Defense Control Matrix: The colony ship prioritizes its living cargo above all else. As a result, its defenses are tougher than a typical Star Destroyer and its advanced engines and systems give it the capacity to outpace most pursuit, except by much smaller ships. All of these systems are tied into an advanced defense control system which is able to prioritize targets and respond automatically to many of the most common scenarios or well documented occurrences. Aiding the defense matrix is a pair of redundant heuristic processors, allowing for the defense system to adapt and learn from its experiences, increasing the defendability of the vessel against threats both natural and otherwise.

  • Solar Sail/Energy Collector: Designed for travel in deep space, the vessel has been equipped with an extremely large solar sail, doubling as an energy collection device. Both able to assist the ship in sub-light speed and provide the vessel and its systems with additional power, this sail can also be used to travel through dangerous space nearly undetected if only utilizing the sail, engines disengaged. Able to collect energy and repurpose it towards the vessels systems, it enables the vessel to maximize its travel distance and survivability.

  • Compartmentalized Modules: Designed as a colony ship, this vessel contains everything a small city would require. A full surgical bay, a science lab, cryo-chambers, the list goes on. Each one of these modules is contained in an entirely self sufficient container, able to survive on its own for a limited duration should the main vessels life support systems or environmental systems fail. Able to be sealed in emergency conditions, these compartments provide an increased survivability in the event of damage or destruction to various parts of the vessel. Additionally, this provides the vessel with an increased level of security as modules can effectively be sealed off in the event of an onboard crises or infiltration of either enemy or hostile creature, to include airborne or otherwise transmitted infection.

  • Self Sealing Hull, Hull Patch Kits: Due to a unique hull design, each bulkhead has a limited ability to patch itself in the event of a hull breach. Depending on the size of the breach, a layered double panel contains a high tensile, semi adhesive compound. When the bulkhead is breached, that adhesive modulated via a small electronic controller seals and hardens across the crack or breach. Though effective for smaller holes and hull punctures/fractures, this only works if the holes are smaller than about half a foot. For gaps larger than that, each compartment contains a varying number of “Hull Patch Kits” in sealed internal compartment. In each Hull Patch Kit, several “Soft Patches” and “Hard Patches are contained as well as a pair of small hand welders. The Soft Patches are thick, durable swathes of fabric which can be placed with a heat activated adhesive to close small holes in the hull. The Hard Patches are circular metal plates which can be welded together to secure a larger hole or gap in the hull when necessary.

  • Wide Array Tractor Beams/Repulsors: One could almost say that the hull is lined in tractor beams/repulsor beams. Across the vessel’s hull is a wide network of tractor beams which double as repulsor beams when reversed. While it might seem silly to have this feature, the crew and passengers would beg to differ. In the deep void, no one is more attuned to the danger of space debris than those who traverse the uncharted lanes of space. WIth a complex network scattered across the hull, the ship is near impervious to these dangers as the advanced defense matrix and heuristic processors are tied directly into this subsystem. While it is typically controlled by the matrix, there is as always a manual control system for more precise control of the system. Though it may act as a defensive measure, the system is by no means infallible. Using too many of the repulsors or tractors for an extended period of time can drain power rapidly which will negatively impact the vessels other systems. Other uses for this system may include trapping/repulsing hostile vessels as well as foreign objects that may prove dangerous to the ship or its hull. While able to repulse and tractor a wide variety of objects, this isn’t an anti-missile or anti-HVC system, merely a defensive measure to prevent unintended or intended collisions.

  • Compartmentalized Shielding: While the vessel as a whole contains particle and ray shielding, each individual compartment also maintains a sub-system which when activated provides a limited duration shield around each section. This allows for not only a redundant shielding system but also a great increase in survivability should any individual parts or major systems of the vessel become severely damaged or destroyed.

  • Internal Autoblaster System: Designed to contain any threats discovered in the depths of space, the ship has been equipped with yet another defense system - an internal autoblaster defense system. This system is connected to the Heuristic Processor as a part of the advanced defense matrix, allowing it to be managed by the main defense system or controlled via manual override, whichever is appropriate.

  • Internal Cryoban Dispensers: An accompanying system installed into the colony vessel is a Cryoban dispensing system which courses through the very ship itself. As a colony vessel and as part of its pathogen containment system, a tubed cryoban dispensing system gives it the ability to almost instantaneously fill its chambers with cryoban. Though its primary design is to freeze and prevent any further contamination in the event of an onboard crises, it can also be used to effectively flash freeze intruders should the need arise. Due to the expense involved in restocking its cryoban reserves and the danger of using high amounts of the chemical on board, this option is only used in the most dire of circumstances.

  • Electronic Countermeasures: As the vessel spans a massive length, it depends highly on its defensive batteries. That being said, it also has a wide plethora of additional countermeasures to avoid and escape conflict. Not only does the ship have a signal scrambler to assist in throwing off enemy guided munitions, but canister launchers are installed along the hull. Loaded with dummy targets and sensor scrambling flares, if used properly could mean the difference between surviving long enough to hyperspace jump away or ending up as scrap metal in space.
Weaknesses:

  • Extremely Limited Offensive Weaponry: Designed primarily as a civilian and colonization vessel, its strength lies in its defense, not offensive weaponry systems. For its size, it is extremely under armed and instead employs a complex network of defense systems and armament. Against fighters and small vessels it may excel but anything larger and it is at a severe disadvantage.

  • Very Poor Maneuverability: Despite sound internal design and redundant inertial dampeners, aggressive maneuvers aren’t in the cards for this ship. As they say in the song, it takes forty acres to turn this rig around. The colony ship was designed to be defensible and/or outrun its attackers, not outmaneuver and outgun them. Much slower in turning than most vessels its size, even the heavier military vessels of similar meterage turn faster than the colony ship.

  • One of a Kind: Being as this is the only ship like this produced, it is extremely difficult to find replacement parts. Many components are either no longer produced or were only produced once which means any and all repairs have to be made with the limited supply of replacement parts on board or be repaired using makeshift fixes. If in combat, this can be extremely difficult as any repairs will have to be done on the fly and could severely limit the ship’s ability to survive for extended periods of time under fire.

  • Chemical Cocktail: Because of the specialized nature of the colony ship, numerous subsystems and even secondary systems rely on a complex network of chemicals and electronics. The ship wasn’t designed as a combat vessel and if its defenses were to be breached, combat damage could seriously hamper the vessels systems and even become a danger in and of itself. With Cryoban running throughout the ship as part of its Internal Defense systems against both pathogens and intruders, severe damage to the ship could trigger or cause malfunctions in its systems. Unexpected dispersal of cryoban during already dangerous situations could result in severe consequences, possibly even fatal ones.

  • Power Sink: Due to the plethora of systems, secondary systems, and subsystems, the colony vessel eats up a lot of power. Thankfully due to both its central computer and well rounded power management controls under normal operation this isn’t a problem - however if too many systems are activated at the same time the ship will experience fluctuations and even in most extreme cases loss of power to some systems. By default, this shouldn’t happen but if manual overrides are used to activate systems after the power distribution warning is ignored, it is possible to lose power to several systems and requires a full system shutdown and power up before full control and accessibility becomes available again.

  • Soft Crew: While a generalization of the ship's crew, it does ring true for most of those aboard the vessel. They are not combat troops, the ship is not a combat vessel. The crew is filled with specialists, each with basic weapons training and self defense experience but that only goes so far. Faced with trained combat or veteran soldiers, they are painfully outmatched. That being said, there is a security team aboard who are combat trained, though the general populace of the crew is not.

Description:

Important Locations

  • Main Bridge

The Command Center of the colony ship, this is where the Captain and the Bridge crew spend the majority of their time. Monitoring the cryo chambers and making adjustments to course where necessary. While much of the ship while travelling through deep space is managed by automation, should the need arise, this is where any awakened crew will command the vessel from. As well, all primary control is routed to the bridge during normal operation though overrides exist to reroute all control to the tactical bridge.

[*]
Tactical Bridge

  • The Tactical Bridge is a smaller and more secure center of operations, only utilized when the bridge is either incapacitated or in an emergency situation where the bridge or vessel as a whole has been compromised by intruders. This tactical bridge has all the same controls as the Main Bridge though consolidated and in a very secure room with no viewports. When not in use as a Tactical Bridge, this room is utilized as the security command center, a holo-projection table the center-piece allowing for real time display of the vessel and its interior.

[*]
Main Engineering

  • Primary Engineering is located towards the rear of the vessel, near the hyperdrive and engine systems. Here is where maintenance and upkeep occur as well as backup control of the propulsion and thrust systems. It shares command protocols with the Main Bridge and Tactical Bridge, in the event either is not functioning or compromised, all thrust control can be routed directly to Engineering.

[*]
Secondary Engineering

  • Little more than a redundancy, Secondary Engineering is simply a backup/Spare parts hold though access to basic propulsion systems and diagnostics can be run from here in the event of a hazard in main engineering.

[*]
Medical & Science Bay

  • One of the key features of the vessel, the Medical Bay is state of the art, laser cutting instruments and advanced scanning systems allow for treatment of almost all known ailments and is equipped with a full surgical bay. In addition, a full science lab complete with testing equipment and isolation chambers is part of this feature. The Chiss have always had a hand for science and medicine, the medical and science bay of the ship highlight that.

[*]
Starboard & Port Hangars

  • These hangars are identical, able to house several small shuttles a-piece. In each hangar, several marked areas designate each zone for a vessel to a maximum of 8 vessels per hangar. While equipped to repair and stock civilian vessels, there is no capability for combat vessels in these hangars. While they could be stored, no specialized equipment is contained for the maintenance and upkeep of combat vessels.

[*]
Command Cryo

  • A separate cryo-center for the command crew, this module contains all the basic necessities for re-awakening and recovering from the cryogenic sleep the crew is likely to undergo during their travel. Limited to the heads of the command crew, these capsules are also able to function as individual escape pods should the need arise though they are only equipped with enough rations and supplies to survive for two days.

[*]
Crew Cryo

  • The Crew cryo-center is markedly more austere than the command module, though the same supplies exist. These cryo-chambers are not equipped as escape pods and are made up entirely of the ship’s assigned crew. These pods are arranged in ‘sticks’ of 10, each stick containing members of the various departments so that in the event one is lost, there is an extremely low chance that all the members of one department are killed should they be destroyed via combat or otherwise destroyed or damaged.

[*]
Passenger Cryo Pods

  • The Passenger Cryo pods are different, in that each pod resides inside the occupant’s assigned quarters and takes up the place of a bunk. While its primary function is cryogenic in nature, these double as a bunk. In each assigned quarters, there are at minimum two adult sized pods and two child sized pods, some may differ based on the crew size or number of occupants.

[*]
Cryogenic Vault

  • Arguably the most important feature of the colonization ship, this vault holds an innumerable amount of genetic material ranging from plant life to even Chiss DNA samples which will allow for rapid re-colonization once the vessel deploys on a suitable planet. The vault holds racks upon racks of genetic material like seeds, eggs, and DNA of many animals native to Chiss planets. This vault is what holds the hope of a future for the Chiss, or so they thought at the time. This vault is maintaned in a climate controlled and extremely secure environment, only the ship’s Captain and the Head Medical staff have access to this vault.

History:

The CNV Ch’otcarun’o is by far and large one of the most ambitious constructs undertaken by the Chiss as a people. Before the Iron Empire rescued the core Chiss worlds from the clutches of the One Sith, the Chiss Ascendancy feared eradication, the genocide or attempted genocide of their people something they couldn’t bear to consider - and so they turned their eyes to the future, beyond the immediate. Long time purveyors of colonization, the Csapla family was among the first to suggest such an undertaking, to create what would become essentially a floating city, a shipboard colony that could travel far from Chiss controlled worlds and begin again, ensuring the continuation of not only the Ascendancy but also the Chiss species. It didn’t take long for the other ruling families, Nuruodo, Sabosen, and Inrokini to get on board with the idea, each adding their own specialties to the mix. The result was the Ch’otcarun’o.

Designed as a self sufficient space vessel, a mobile space colony, it was more than that even - an opportunity to put science, colonization, and the resilience of the Chiss species to the test. Not limited to the ruling families, some of the best and brightest of the next generation were selected for duty. Engineers, scientists, cadets and young officers - many jumped at the opportunity to serve their famies, even members of each family’s phalanx were volunteered to participate in the social experiement that was the CNV Ch’otcatun’o. As the shadow of the One Sith began spreading across the galaxy, the vessel was launched, its original intent to travel from the known galaxy in search of another, a more hospitable place, in the hope that one day they could return. As the vessel jumped into hyperspace, an anomaly along its flight path cast it between the very folds of time and space and for years it remained aloof, out of time and space itself. Until Now.
