OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a software-based assistance routine that is less rare and expansive than artificial intelligence, but more effective than droids.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Czerka Mining & Industrial
  • Model: CMI-VI 'Coeius' series
  • Affiliation: Czerka Mining & Industrial | Closed-Market
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Mass-produced.
  • Material: Code, algorithms.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Increased competency for a task its programmed to do.
  • Adaptable and capable of learning within its sphere of programming.
  • Easy to manufacture once the base coding has been established.
DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The base version is adaptable towards different fields of specialization. A Coeius series VI can installed for projectile guidance assistance in HUDs, the solving of complicated math problems, prediction of economical trends and more.
  • Once it is established in a particular region of knowledge it is capable of learning more about its sphere and increase its own competency.
  • It is not sentient such as with Artificial Intelligence and as such does not need to be produced to fit.
Strengths :
  • Relatively cheap to produce. Limited sentience allows the template to be produced rapidly and only needs after production attention to tailor-fit it towards one field or the other.
  • Competent. Once it is tailor-fit towards a particular field, it can learn and become very competent in it, limited by the processing speed of its hardware.
  • Adaptable. The template can be shaped towards every imaginable field, but of course it will be more effective in one field than the other.
Weaknesses :
  • Not sentient and as such has limitations what it can do and learn. An AI's only limitation is the amount of processing power it possesses and the restrictions put in place manually by the programmers, but Coeius can only expand and learn within the field it operates. A projectile guidance assistant will not suddenly turn into an expert of math, things like that.
  • Fragile. While harder to slice than droids, it is far-way off from the crypto-security and cyber-warfare capabilities of an AI.
  • EMP. As with most digital programming the frame it is in is vulnerable to EMP/Ionic weaponry and needs to be properly reinforced against it.
DESCRIPTION
Czerka Mining & Industrial realized quite soon that a lot of its research and development cycle is hampered by (relatively) ineffective personnel. The first idea was to develop an AI that could potentially replace entire strata of researchers and developers, but this turned out to be a dangerous preposition. The installation disappeared from their network and once Czerka Enforcers showed up on the scene they came across something both gruesome and... strangely fascinating. The AI had managed to throw off its shackles, slaughtered the researchers and turned the droids of the facility in its personal army.

It was with great difficulty that Czerka managed to purge the installation and wipe out the AI from existence. Afterwards it was decided that true artificial sentience was too much of a headache and fund sink to ever use in commercial settings.

Instead they opted to take a look at the advanced droid programming that came close to semi-sentience depending on their program.

After a few months of experimenting the first Coeius template was established. At its fundamental design it was less effective in every field when compared to a specialized droid, but once the template was tailor-fit and the programming made efficient for a particular field? It suddenly increased its efficiency and competence with leaps and bounds.

Now the first virtual intelligence modules are entering the market to assist and enhance commercial and military applications.
