Closing the Gap [Matsu Ike]

"That's okay, mommy. I am willing to wait and take time to learn things," she said, only slightly disappointed. It didn't really matter though, she knew that things like that probably took years and years to master. The opening ice was fun to watch as Matsu opened the shuttle. Lorieth followed her down into the ship. Obviously it had been there a long time as the ice had frozen so thoroughly around it. The ship itself had lost power long ago and the inside was completely dark. Some of the things were scattered all about the floor, as if it had crashed. "This is...so old! Where did it come from?" Lorieth peered around her mother, trying to see past the impenetrable darkness. To herself she wondered what exactly this had to do with learning how to be a Jedi, but she knew her mother always had something up her sleeve.

Matsu was looking at the ship while she listened and looked. "It looks to be a clone transport." With the doors opened and the crates about she was looking over some of the things letting some of her attention go to it. She was opening the crates while standing there and looking up. "It looks like they were late stage and transporting a prisoner. The casket they have here is used by inquisitors to store dead jedi for capturing others. We managed to find their personal effects in previous ones and laid the jedi to rest." Matsu was looking at the remains within while she gave a nod of her head looking over it, thoughts of the jedi letting her see the frozen tattoo's on her face as well as the bluish green skin. Matsu was going through it to open up the compartments. "Use your senses and reach out, a jedi can reach itnot he force and find the faintest traces of electronic signatures."

Following Matsu around, she looked in the various boxes and compartments. It was dark and hard to see. Listening to her mother's words, she channeled the Force and sent it out in a wave, searching the vessel for anything that had remnants of the Force. Things that clearly would be of importance. There were a couple of boxes that Matsu had just talked about. And all of them seemed to have a signature in the Force. Opening the first one, there was nothing but some very old remains. Sifting through it a little, she found a few shreds of clothing, but nothing super important. Moving onto the next one, she felt a much stronger resonance coming from it. There was something important in this one...

The box opened up and she felt a really strong signature almost explode from it. There was a lightsaber hilt sitting right on top of the pile. It was smooth and cylindrical with the end tapering off in a flat point. The next box contained stuff much like the first one. Just remnants. The third box had another lightsaber hilt. It looked much like the first one but the pointed end had gold stripes of metal. And near the box there was another hilt. This one wasn't in a box. It looked like it had spilled out from another one. It had a weird blade-like thing on it. Lorieth liked this one the most.

The ropo behind her head starting wiggling. Setting the sabers up on a seat. Lorieth reached back and gave it a gentle rub and it became quiet. Then looking up at her mother, "I found these three saber hilts. Are they important?"

Matsu was moving and looking through it as she took a look at the saber hilts laying the different things out on the floor with a glow rod to illuminate it. Matsu was making a face though in anticipation before her attention went to the girl. "A good find, these caskets are important for laying the bodies of the ancient jedi to rest." With more of her attention she was picking the one saber up as she focused, observing Corvus had taught her some of the skills she could fo and psychometry t learn who the owner was who had held it. It was how she had learned to look into the past as she came back and set it aside checking the other. The force energy coming carefully before she looked to the third saber with her attention and she couldn't detect anything but had some ideas of what they could do. "Pick one for yourself, this can be a strong start and the jedi who held these blades at one time were honorable."

Each of the three sabers looked old and very interesting. The first two she found looked almost the same with just a few differences. The third one was the most interesting. She picked it up and studied it. There was a hand guard that looked like it used to be sharp on the outside, like a knife used to defend. It would take some work to repair and resharpen it. But that wasn't anything some elbow grease couldn't handle. "This one," she whispered with a big smile on her face. She clicked the button but nothing happened. "It seems to be broken. Do you think we can fix it?" her voice was upset. Not like she had lost something important, but just disappointed.

Matsu gathered the other ones and put them in an equipment pack as she gave a nod of her head. "Yes we can, we have repair kits." She looked up at her though while going through the rest and there were the pieces of equipment from the troopers as she was getting what they could. "We'll head up and get you a kit, a good lesson to work on is how you can construct and repair your lightsaber. For future use and if you choose to have another master not your mother to teach you they shall be able to." Matsu rose up and was walking out towards the ice with a smile. "How is your new pet doing?"

Lorieth looked at her new saber for a few more moments before latching it to her belt. Her first saber. It would come in handy one day. She didn't necessarily look forward to having to harm other people. But this was a galaxy at war and that was an unfortunate fact. "That sounds fun! And soon after we can work on maybe using them? Oh and, he's good. Just haven't figured out a name for him yet. But it will come to me." She started out of the shuttle. The ice surrounding the rest of it looked so beautiful. It had only been a short while since they had been on the planet and already so much had happened and so much had been discovered.

Matsu exited the shuttle and she clasped her hands behind her back while she was moving out into the ice chamber and standing there while she waited. "You shall do fine sweetie, you have been raised to be a jedi and know what is right better then most." There were some thoughts about her daughter in a war or involved and it scared her but this was a rare time, when she actually was more able to have affection for her child even if she wasn't blood like Reiko and Orihime. She was family and the age old question remained of what she would do with her when it came time for a master... the obvious one was trust her to herself, teach her there is value in understanding the darkside but not to give into it or the emotions it bring... but she knew repressing them could be dangerous as Matsu shook her head to break herself out of the thoughts. "Well I have always been partial to fluffy."

"Mom, Fluffy is just so...unoriginal," Lorieth laughed at her. "I will come up with something better in time." She felt her mom's reaction through the Force. It was easy to tell when her mom had different feelings even through the Force. Lorieth looked at her with stern eyes. "Mother, I know your scared that I am moving into the part of life where I may come into danger. But you have to trust me. And yourself. If you teach me all the things I need to know then there won't be any problems." She stopped and turned around to her mom, grabbing her in a big tight hug. "We may not be related by blood. But the bond between us is stronger than many people. I trust that if anyone were to teach me, the best person would be you." She let go of her mom and turned around again. "Let's get going."

"Perhaps." Matsu was listening to her and walking as she went towards the pathway back to the entrance.and she listened to her as Matsu moved closer bringing her hands out to touch her shoulders. "Oh it is not you I don't trust, or me... well most of the time the question of what else can I teach them to survive is there but no I know I have taught you how to make the right decisions and that you understand more then others. I will always trust you to be able to make your own choice when it comes to your life." Matsu now looked at her pausing for a moment as she had pale skin so emotion didn't really show when angry or embarrassed. "The world is what I don't trust, the galaxy and all of its dangers. It is dark and full of terrors not just monsters and creatures but people and..." Her voice got tight and Matsu moved a little closer coming in as she was darting her eyes around worried when they were closer to the entrance. "And there.." Matsu kept looking as she could feel the air getting thick with tension and then her hands were moving. Fingers extending to she moved to tickle at the rib cage of the girl letting a smile show on her face. "She there are dangers right here."

The pink haired girl took pride in that she was able to lift her mother's spirits. Even if it was in a small degree only. Her mother was the most important thing in the galaxy and that's all that mattered. Lorieth understood her mother's reasoning on why she was scared for her to go out into the galaxy. It was a sad truth. There were things in the universe that wouldn't give a second thought to making Lorieth disappear forever. When her mother grew concerned, Lorieth whipped around. Nothing had come up in the Force that she was aware of. But that might be the fact that she was still so unused to always sensing with it. Sometimes she even forgot to keep a lookout with her senses. "What is it!?" Her eyes were trained on the entrance of the cave, attempting to see whatever it was Matsu was seeing.

Matsu was looking at her and there was the concern as she spoke. "I think it is a." She was waiting and moving in to tickle her rib cage to get giggles and laughs. The force in her fingers while she was moving and laughing a little letting the force energies dissipate to creating a joyous and calming aura. "A tickle monster." She was moving to get laughs and giggles from her while the ropo's around them that were following seemed to be getting excited and laughing almost in the snow while the nuzzled at the two jedi's feet.

Jumping away from her mom's fingers, Lorieth laughed loudly. She stumbled around the ropos and giggled some more. "Well, mom. I think we figured out what inhabits these caves. These little ropos have gathered here to stay safe." Then realization hit her. "But...if we use these caves for ourselves, all the little ropos will be shoved back out where they'll be in danger again!" The ropo behind her back would be safe and healthy. She would see to that. But she couldn't take all the small little fuzzies with her. "Just make sure they're safe. Let's go fix my lightsaber, tickle monster." She giggled to herself at that joke as she turned to keep walking.

Matsu was looking at her and at the creatures as she spoke looking at them. "Oh they will be fine, we aren't going to force them out of the cave it is their home. We're just going to make it safer so it won't cave in." She had other plans looking it over and working on a few of the things they had planned. Using the base and building so it could access these caves through the mountains with a grin on her face. "We'll have it all work out and make a home for them. This is going to be a nice little reserve world the ropo's can live on." Matsu was leading the way as she offered the lead back towards the base and presented the researchers there with the twin sabers and the small triangular holocron presenting it for them to check out. "Get these into the vault on the ship and start the plans for connecting this base to the cave network. We'll make it secured over there and connect them."

Watching Matsu take care of the other things they had found, Lorieth took the saber off of her belt to look at it better now that there was light. It was a simple, eloquent design that rounded off in a point on the non-saber end. The knife edge was a little dull but flowed beautifully. Lorieth left her mom to deal with the rest of their findings to go on to the ship. She set out a small potty area for the ropo, though it would take time to train him. Then got him some food and water to keep him comfortable. After the small animal had been taken care of, she went to the general area of the ship and laid down her saber, waiting for Matsu.

Matsu watched most of it happening and had the plans going forward. her attention on a few of the things while she was looking over reports and designs for what they wanted. Filling them in on the grand plan for all of it before she was approaching the girl with her eyes on the lightsaber itself. They had found something wonderful before she was running and letting some ideas come out. "Now before we begin, what do you see your saber as? Not the simple parts but how do you see it in your hand? From the material making the hilt to the type of power cells and activation stud. Even the outer casing and the crystals within the blade."

"When I look at this saber, I think of the death and destruction that such a tool has the power to bring," she began. "But also, I think of the ways that lightsabers can help the galaxy and the people living inside of it. And finally, I see the future that it will unlock for me. The way my hands will tighten around it when I have to fight off evil to protect the good." She sighed, picking up the saber, clicking the button to still have no result at all. Not even a spark. Hopefully it would be an easy fix. "How do you take it apart?" Lorieth asked her mother. She couldn't see any clear way to take the pieces apart.

Matsu looked at her and sat looking at the saber. "You see all that huh? I see a tool used by you." She tapped it and then looked at her tapping for her chest. "Any tool or weapon can do all that you said. It depends on the heart of the one wielding it." She looked back at the saber though and wiggled her fingers while she brought out the repair kit. "I was speaking more on the surface of the saber and how you wanted it to look when your held it. The impression it could inspire going forward." She had a grin while bringing the hilt up so she could demonstrate how she was working on it. The activation studs and the grip of it as she was sliding it to open the casing.

The saber slid open, revealing the insides. It was complex yet simple. Lorieth had never seen the inside of a lightsaber and the expectations she had of it weren't let down. It was a small mess of a beauty. The first thing she noticed was the crystal in the middle was broken. In fact, it was more or less shattered. That was porbably one of the issues. Hopefully not much more than that would be broken. "Honestly, it just needs a new grip, a crystal, and the blade needs to be sharpened. Otherwise, I think it will be a trusty saber that will protect me," she was satisfied with what she had found in the old ship wreckage. And who knows where it came from. What mattered now was that it would be hers. "So what all is wrong with it?" she asked, looking closer at the saber's insides.

Matsu was looking at it as she checked the different parts and set them out. "Nothing major looks broken aside from the crystal and the lens. Both can be replaced but the power cell after so long should be swapped out just in case." She was moving with it now and having the repair kit opened. "As well the circuits for it changed to non-dimetris circuitry for resisting cortosis and the inner casing to make it waterproofed. A few more ideas would be the special biometrics we have for the hand lock to keep others from using it." She had some more ideas for the saber hilt they could be done and just decorative but this was her daughters and arts and crafts was still the best thing to do in free time just making things.
