Cleansing Fire

Walking onto the casino floor would be akin to walking into a booze soaked madhouse. The alcoholic patrons were like patients in line to get dealt in, the ‘house’ was their doctor, providing prescriptions for a monstrous debt and loss of everything important. The casino floor was no place for anyone, yet they kept it under a guise of legal fun and free drinks, though in reality it was a slaughterhouse.

Most of their employees were teenagers or children, some of them tried to escape. Most of the time tough, the children were exposed to the madness at such a young age, stripped of any semblance of their former lives, any fragment of normal society was gone, instead replaced with young slaves. Some of them were forced to do simple chores or serve drinks, and some of them were chosen for more specific reasons, one such child was Apache Rose, or as he was formerly known, Sedonis Halex.

They named him Apache after a local legend on Ryloth about a young Human boy who fought off a rampant Rancor released on the planet with only a slingshot and his father’s hunting knife. The name Rose came from his peaceful attitude as such a young child. They played off of that tale and off of Sedonis’s natural dexterity and flexibility; they taught him how to spin poi, using the glowing orbs to tell the story of Apache and the Rancor through dance and gymnastics. They trapped the child within his own ego at such a young age that he had no idea what he was actually signed up for until it was too late.

After the young performing servant was old enough to understand the beast he had been fed to he was able to subtly manipulate the system, he was able to outsmart them and through non-violence and dedication to his art, Apache Rose was able to maintain sanity and a level head. The young gymnast decided to express his disdain for the establishment through his craft, spinning the poi and telling beautiful stories with his body, some of the patrons coming just for the teenage wonder. There was a fire kindling deep within him though, one that would sear his memory for all time to come.

Through the years Apache came to better his craft and his performances moved from just spinning to all sorts of displays of dexterity. The limber boy was taught how to manipulate his body in ways that most people would never understand, let alone wish to try. They pushed him to his limits, and in the end that was their downfall. It wasn’t until he was 21 that he first felt the tickle of a flame brush his skin, and that was the first time he tasted his true destiny. There was a preforming group of women called the Galactic Women’s Fine Society, it was a traveling troupe out to play at different venues for credits all across the galaxy, and it was them who first showed him the true art behind fire.

Apache, who had gone from a boy to a man in that very cesspit, had his first experience with art. He watched in amazement as they twirled the orbs of fire across their bodies, letting the sweat glisten their brow, playing the shadows off their shapely bodies, it was a true experience for Rose. After their performance Apache dreamed of learning to manipulate the fire in the same ways, and eventually those dreams came to fruition and the casino owner allowed him to learn to use fire in his act. It took him a few months but he eventually got the hang of it, practicing day in and day out.

It was after the first year that they allowed him to spin fire for the first time on the casino floor, it would also be the last time. The young dancer had been spinning the flaming orbs for a couple hours, he had felt the fire deep within his veins, filling his body with purpose and meaning, passions he had never felt before. It was fifteen minutes into his second act that he felt his body letting go, the chains started moving faster and faster, eventually the fire was just a blur over his body, the patrons watching in complete suspense. The feeling was the most powerful feeling the numbed performer had ever felt.

It was in that moment that something happened, the fire moved from the chains and spread to his body, dancing around his chest and face, tracing his features. The viewers watched in awe as he spun his body around, as though hypnotizing the crowd with his dance, the fire had soon made its way across his hands, though he seemed unknowing of what was happening. The only sign that things had gone horribly wrong were the deafening screams that were soon vaporized by fire, it had spread over the few seconds, engulfing the booze soaked matchbox.

Apache was lucky enough to get out before he was consumed too, but he was soon detained and arrested by the security officers, seeing as he had been the only one handling fire in the entire casino. That was how the non-violent twenty two year old found himself rotting in a jail cell, stuck there to repent for his sins for as long as they pleased.

Since I was 19 I had trained in the element of fire. Even before that I knew that I was different. People just didn't burn others at random. Even then, When I first knew of my fire powers I was cornered into a mugging. At the time I was only 12. I had survived 3 years on my own, living on the streets with a sword that was to big to carry and a bird that was my only companion. Thron, named after my father, was a Banshee bird given to me from a Jedi. Three men had been attempting to take my bird for food. They were grabbing onto the little thing with their gritty, dirty hands. Thron squawked so loudly that I had to cover my ears, yet I grew angry and attacked the men.

Full of rage I yelled at them with a voice that was not my own. All I remember after that was holding my bird while the three men were burning on the ground with police around me. I still remember to this day that incident. Looking down at my hands I saw the white skin that was once black. Covered in scars that would never leave me. Though only a year ago did a woman heal my hands. Even then I still looked at my hands wondering how she did it. I sat on my bed, in my house that was once owned by my parents. Living in the woods left me alone with Thron as he was now getting to a ripe old age. We could never really go on adventures anymore like we use to.

Even then, I never really took him with me as the little guy might get killed. Looking up from my hands I watched as Thron slept with his beak folded under his wing. It was kind of cold today and as the bird could not heat himself like I could, he shivered slightly. Smiling I walked over to him and stuck my hand in wrapping my fingers around him slowly. I heated my hands for a while and I was rewarded with a tiny chirp of thanks. I nodded my head and let go leaving him to go back to sleep.

I walked out into my living room where a couch and two chair sat with a coffee table that I had hand made sitting in the middle. On it sat files, Datapads, papers, notes, and about 5 cans of energy drinks. Each empty and laying on their sides. I shook my head and move on to the kitchen where I grabbed an egg from my fridge and slowly heated my hands to hardboil the egg, as I poured a glass of whiskey. Taking a swig I let the egg cool down and peeled it to be eaten in one bite. It tasted rather good as I was grabbing another one. Only was a stopped by a knocking on my door.

I scrunched my brow at why someone would be visiting me at 5 in the morning. I set the egg back in its clear plastic container and let the fridge close on its own. Me walking over in a pair of tight shorts with no shirt or shoes on I answered my door to a group of 4 police. Each of them looked like they had been playing with fire as some of their hair was singed and their black uniforms were covered in holes from sparks that were alittle to hot. The smallest of the group came forwards and spoke in a rather deep tone for his size of at least five foot five. "This is the residence of Morna Imura, Correct?"

I answered with a nod of my head then ran a hand through my dirty blonde hair. He spoke once more to me. "You are needed at the local police station as we have an incident where you would be best to handle it." I looked at him and then nodded my head. "Yeah I'll be there, just give me a few minutes to get ready, and come in if you like" Leaving the door open I walked back to my room to get my clothes on and shower atleast. I took only 15 minutes to get done with all the things I needed to do. Dressed in my black clothing I walked into my living room to see the police standing there cleaning their weapons. Smiling I knocked on the wall as I walked out saying I was ready to go. I walked to my LA-1 Supra (motorcycle) and started the engine with a very nice hum. It felt good to use it for once on this planet.

Going a nice 450 kilometers per hour I zoomed past the cops and into the city and was waiting for them for a good 5 minutes before I went in. I smiled as they stared at the grungy looking bike. I sauntered up to the info desk and the instant I was seen I was pointed to a cell. Inside was a man that also had some burns in his clothes, but he looked as though he were old. Maybe a good 30-40 years old. But as I could see his face it didnt have wrinkles making me think that he was much younger. Maybe the same age as me? Ether way they opened the door to allow me in and when I had taken a few steps in the closed the door, leaving a single guard at there if I needed him.

I knew that the man might not talk to me unless I did as he may have committed a crime. Ether way, I spoke up. My Voice (guy in vest) sounded deep and groggily. That was to effect at my 12 years of smoking. "You don't mid if I smoke in here do ya?"

Time had ceased to mean anything to Apache. He had been sitting undisturbed since he was arrested, it could have been a couple hours or a couple days at this point. The guards were too scared to talk to him in fear he would burn the compound down, and the courts were too full to take him in so he was sentenced to isolation until they could get this mess cleaned up. They said they knew who to contact but it would be a longshot. That was the last news Apache heard.

Still shirtless and singed, the olive skinned convict decided it would be the best time to figure out what had happened. The young man had grown up detesting the illicit activities that took place in front of him. He saw the dark underbelly of where lust and greed get you and he vowed to never experience either, and a part of that was to not raise a hand unless in self-defense. Had he been attacked? Had someone done something to cause him to burn the place down?

The fuzzy memory was companions with the terrible headache, most likely caused by guilt. If the detainee weren’t already clean shaven he would have likely worried his hair out by now. There was the ability to meditate all you wanted, bathe till your skins falls off, but nothing could wash away the black ash on your conscience from killing so many people. The only thing he could do to cope with it was trap himself inside his own thoughts, he stared blankly into the space between his crossed legs as he sat bent over, the thoughts of the blazing fire still trespassing every so often into his frame of mind.

The first contact to really break him of his silence was the door opening to a raspy voiced firebrand asking about a cigarette, likely the defense the courts hired on Apache’s behalf. “If you’ve been sent here in my defense I shall not contest whatever punishment they see fit, I know what I did.” He didn’t raise his emerald eyes on the stranger, they stayed fixed to the plasteel bench under him. Somehow though, he still felt him, Apache knew exactly where he was at all times in the room. “As for the cigarette, if you’ve come here to mock me with fire then I require your company less than if you were here to defend me.”

I smiled as the man was willing to take punishment for his actions. It showed that he knew he was guilty, and it showed that this man's heart was true. He was not just going to lie, even for a small bit, just to save himself. The man thought about everything that had happened. When I first burned someone I became part of the Dark side for a while, but this man was the complete opposite of me. He would rather take his punishment head on than run away from it. And that meant something.

The smile on my face widened and grew as the man spoke about mocking him. Only was he so wrong about that. I was never mocking him at any point. I was just wanting a Kolto Cigarette. Even though they were more expensive than most, their healing properties caused them to be great stress relievers. A man that was in a full out rage would act like a pup if he just smoked one. I took out a pack of the sticks that may calm me down. Pulling one out a knew that this other man would not want one. Seemingly it was lit already just by my touch. Taking a very nice puff I let the man sit there after he spoke. I grabbed the chair from the other side of the cell. Even though it was bolted down, the bolts had been removed of their own record.

The metal chair was moved to sit infront of him as I sat down with a huff. "I am not mocking you, Infact we have some things in common. Thats why I was called down here. Not to protect you in the court of law, but to help you with your fire powers." I could only smile at him. Not knowing that there were others like him. Others that had the power of fire, and how they controlled it. Only soon he would realize this. "I am not of the law, Nor of the courts. I am like you more than you may think." I let the stick of Kolto touch my lips once more as I took a breath from it. The end lit up like a flame that was in the wind. Even then when I removed the cigarette from my mouth, I held in the smoke that was captured in my lungs. Letting it come out of my nose like a dragon of myth. Only the smoke did not disappear. It moved around me as though a mist and slowly formed into a mini-version of the both of us. Me sitting in a chair and him on the bed.

The meditation had to stop, the thinking too hard had to stop, whatever he did he could not hide the thrill and fear from himself that he felt when he dipped into those locked away passions. Jade eyes found their way to the tattered clothed play boy in front of him. His garments appeared to be in worse condition than Apache’s, perhaps he lost the rest of them in the fire? It seemed Apache Rose was in fact not conducive to modern fashion.

The inmate was however familiar with the stories of the Force and how it could be used to manipulate the galaxy around you, in tangible ways and ways far more alarming. The flame that engulphed the end of the cigarette ignited the same spark within Apache that it did the stick between the Force User’s lips. The careful precision Morna took with his inhales suggested he was an avid smoker, likely to use it to take the stress off, or perhaps he liked to get burnt. Grey tendrils of smoke grabbed at Rose’s nose like a demon straight from Chaos stretching its arms in its illicit glory.

The scents brought back both the memories of the freshly smoked smell of the casino floor during a business night, and also titillated the darker side of his memory, charring his taste buds with the thick ashy air that surrounded the crime scene, seemingly dampening his vision to the same blurry haze that he somehow saw his way through to safety. He knew that it was just stress building up, but there was suddenly much more energy in the room, like a tidal wave of power splashing up over Apache’s spirit.

“You, you...what is this? Why do I feel this way? What have I done to deserve this burden?” If he were so much like the convict, then maybe he could provide some answers. “If you know what I did then why do you consider me worth speaking to? I killed many innocent people, I have no time for mind games, I need to know what happened back there.” It was potentially the most aggressive stance Apache had taken to this day…if you didn’t count the aforementioned fire. Perhaps those passions previously tested had started to make their way back.

I smiled as the man asked his questions and his spoke his thoughts. He thought that he was an abomination and wondered on how he deserved this when really he didn't. The truth of the matter was. He did deserve it. He deserved to know what his powers were and how much he could actually do. I watched as the man who had made him self a person of calmness and clarity. Now that I saw that behind the veil was really a man who was scared out of what he had done.

I took the cigarette from my mouth and dropped it on the floor to be crushed from my boot. Smothering the flames that would calm me. I stood up and smiled. "You deserve to know what you did, and how you did it, so you can control the flames that reside in your heart." I lifted my right hand and formed a ball of flames in my hand. "I know what you did, I know how you did it, and I can teach you. I speak with you because I am the best at Psychokinesis or what I am use to calling it as Fire Shaping." I let my hand fall down and extinguish from flame. My hand smoked slightly as my skin was just heated to a temperature that could melt the steel bars that held this man in the cell. I stared into the man with my eyes as burning an orange in replace of the calm blue.

I sat back down in the chair that I had moved and folded my legs to rest on the edge of the bed. "I have killed people. Many infact. Ether by my own hands or on accident. I am not playing mind games here, Yet I come to help you as a fellow man, and particularly as a person who can control flames." I looked up to him clearly my mood had changed once more as my eyes were as a blue. "That is, Do you want to control your hearts desire?"
