TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Sword
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Light

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Deeply engraved and orbalisk-shell-inlaid Sith runes; perceived time dilation.

STRENGTHS
  • The laminated-metal san mai arrangement gives Clarion excellent hardness and durability, even for a unique phrik sword.
  • Phrik is quite light, making the long sword unexpectedly nimble.
  • The sword has an acute slicing edge but a tough, armor-piercing point.
  • Specialized Sith runes alter the user's perception of time, giving them two or three times longer to think and react. Note that the runes don't make the fighter faster relative to their surroundings or opponents; it's just a matter of perception. While this experience is a fairly pedestrian way to feel and use the Force, Clarion's effect is significantly more pronounced and distinct.

WEAKNESSES
  • Lightsaber impacts can dull the precise slicing edge.
  • Moran got a little carried away with the complexity of the hilt and the forte of the blade. A canny opponent could find a way to turn that geometry to their advantage.
  • Clarion is too long for effective single-handed use, and may prove clumsy at short range.
  • Damage to the runes, or the presence of ysalamiri or void stone, can reduce or delete their Force effect.
  • Requires specialized care and resources to sharpen if it dulls substantively. Svolten rhyolite is best, and a day's work from a master smith would be ideal. This is NOT a blade you can touch up in the field.

DESCRIPTION
Clarion is a two-handed laminated phrik longsword with a slicing hollow grind. A fuller extends four-fifths of the way up the blade. The forte and guard are highly stylized. Specialized Sith runes mark three nodes on the forte and extend to the blade's halfway point. Moran engraved the runes deeply and inlaid them with glossy black orbalisk chitin, which is nearly as hard and durable as the metal underneath. The orbalisk chitin confers no special advantage, apart from making Clarion look nicer than the other guy's sword.
