Description and History:

Existing since Mandalore began, the Ciryc Gaht, or Cold North, is an expansive, polar wasteland. The temperatures there easily reach subzero temperatures and the region is well known for the ice that locks everything in place. Glaciers and frozen mountain peaks dot the landscape here and there while ice-locked bays and near-endless snowfields lay in between. The wildlife here has learned to adapt and survive in a harsh climate and so have the few Mandalorians that live here.

The few population centers this far north are no bigger than the occasional village, often amounting to a single homestead and none further than the edges of the expanse. Most hunt the beasts that live this far north, selling the furs for profit to prospective buyers. The overall population is low, even by Mandalorian standards, and so the chances of randomly finding a Mandalorian settlement in this area are slim to none.

The region was first discovered by the Taung, though most of their reports that survive wrote the area off as being of little use. As time went on, hunters made occasional forays into the snowy wilds to bring back furs. Soon, this lead some hunters to set up permanent homesteads along the edges of the region. Few dared go as deep as possible into the frozen wastes, but occasional scientific journeys are made.

The far northern reaches of the region hold some of the most rugged and inhospitable mountain ranges thinkable. The temperatures drop well below zero at night and barely touch zero degrees during the day. It is theorized that a research station or perhaps more could be constructed there, though such a move would be expensive. Some individuals feel it to be worth the effort, however, as such mountain ranges could give excellent scientific data or, potentially, a spaceport or defendable base of some kind.
