PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Model Name: TD19A “Chrysalide” Grenade
Market Status: Closed-Market
Modularity: None
Production: Limited
Material(s):
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Classification: Thermal Detonator
Size: Average
Weight: Average
Explosive Type: Baradium
Delivery Method: Thrown
Effective Range: Average
Area Of Effect: Personal
Damage Output: Extreme
SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Magnetized casing enables the Chrysalide to attach itself to metallic targets (e.g., vehicles, doors, armor, etc.) and couples with its exceptionally potent destructive power and lessened area of effect, to focus the weapon’s awesome power against that specific target (and very nearby collateral targets). This makes the weapon exceptionally useful for breaching, precision attacks, and use in smaller areas, such as within starships, facility corridors, etc.
  • Specially-keyed security prevents deactivation by unauthorized users, eliminating the ability of it being used by enemies or accidentally discharged by careless bystanders, etc.
  • Cannot be accidentally activated and is immune to sympathetic detonation, making the weapon much safer to be carried by troops.
  • Timed detonator allows users to remain clear from blast range, and enables the weapon to be set as a place charge against selected targets.
STRENGTHS:
That’s Gonna Leave a Mark: A thermal detonator is, by all reckoning, a powerful weapon. The Chrysalide however, is not your average thermal detonator. Despite its small size and lowered area of effect, the Chrysalide’s explosive power within that area is nothing short of extreme, causing typically much more damage than ‘conventional’ thermal detonators. This makes them incredibly useful for more precision-type attacks, focusing their awesome destructive power on more specific targets than to expect more general area damage.
WEAKNESSES:
Close Only Counts…: A thermal detonator, throughout the galaxy, is usually recognized as a weapon capable of vaporizing a small building, a large vehicle, or everything within a similarly-sized space. However, the Chrysalide contains a smaller baradium core, lessening its area of effect to roughly half the size of an average thermal detonator (i.e., approximately 2.5-3m). Therefore, users must keep in mind that despite the Chrysalide’s powerful effects, those effects only reach half as far. Accuracy then, is particularly necessary for this weapon to be effective.
DESCRIPTION:
Grenades are tricky weapons, and thermal detonators are even trickier. Any self-respecting operator would love an easy-and-safe-to-carry, high-yield explosive – particularly one which can be used as a place charge or employed against a localized target – and one that brings the power and ferocity of a thermal detonator into a scaled, tactical medium is just what the doctor ordered.
You can’t use a Chrysalide to devastate a whole squad or take down a whole building the way you can with most thermal detonators. Instead, it becomes more ideal for blowing off a blast door, targeting a heavily armored foe or enemy vehicle, breaching an enemy ship or facility, or similar scenarios where exceptional power is needed but within a controlled blast radius. Designed to foil accidental, sympathetic, or intentional discharge by outsiders, and equipped with a time-delay mechanism, the ability to ‘daisy chain’ with other Chrysalide devices, and a powerful magnetized casing that will attack to most any metallic surface, the Chrysalide is versatility, control, and power, all quite literally in the palm of your hand!
