OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create an advanced medical capsule in Lucerne Biological Systems product line
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Suspended Animation: Chronos uses technology originally found in suspended-animation caskets to create an encompassing stasis field within the capsule itself. This allows Chronos to keep critically injured patients alive while they are being transported in the capsule. It can be dialed back and forth, allowing time within the capsule to simply be "slower" than the outside world - this allows for robotic-based surgery to take place, as the robotics within can be moved at an accelerated pace (compared to the hand of organic surgeon) to make up for the time dilation difference.
  • Robotic Surgery Suite: Chronos has a number of modular, robotic arms within the capsule itself which culminate in different medical tools, such as scalpels, cauterizers, snthflesh applicators, probes, etc. Controlled by surgeon or medical droid on the other side of the capsule, this suite allows the patient to be operated on despite the time differences from the outside world. As an example of this utility, a patient suffering from massive internal hemorrhages could be stabilized by stasis, while a surgeon could conduct exploratory surgery to find the locations of the internal bleeding and repair them. Another possible common use would be to install cybernetics or prosthetics replacements in severely injured individuals.
  • Onboard MediScan Unit: Chronos comes with an onboard MediScan unit, which not only monitors the patient, but can also control the robotic surgery to perform some basic surgeries and treatments.
  • Bacta Tank: Chronos is fully sealed, which also allows it to be used as portable bacta tank.
  • Mobile: Chronos does have a pair of repulsorlifts, which allows it to be moved by individuals with relative ease, much like other medical capsules.
STRENGTHS
  • Lifesaver: Suspending an individual in time until they can get proper treatment. can be the difference between life or death
  • Comprehensive Care: Chronos allows the patient to be treated surgically, with bacta, or other modalities. It can even do some of these on its own without outside input.

WEAKNESSES

  • Bulky: Compared to repulsor stretchers and other devices commonly used to move patients, medical capsules like the Chronos are significantly more bulky, taking more effort to move and taking up more space.
  • Limited Memory Banks: Chronos's memory banks only holds enough information to monitor, diagnose, and treat about a dozen species at a time. Even then, its own surgical ability is very limited to treating very obvious, common, and uncomplicated traumas.
DESCRIPTION
Medical capsules have been key to ensuring the transport and stabilization of many patients while being transported, especially on vehicles or smaller starships. The Chronos is an attempt by Lucerne Biological Systems to advance the capabilities of this basic technology further by effectively turning it into a portable microsurgery suite. Key to this concept is the ability to stabilize a patient with a minimum of effort, which mean the use of a stasis field to keep the patient and all organic processes suspended or near suspended. Doing so provides the necessary time to diagnose the patient properly and conduct treatments through the use of robotic arms. If surgery isn't necessary or the skill available isn't enough to be able to properly treat the patient, the interior of the capsule can be flooded with bacta to provide a general cure-all, though the stasis then must be increased somewhat in order to allow the bacta to actually work, even if time is barely moving inside.

Chronos is meant to be used largely as a temporary stopgap or a more mobile means of surgery rather than a replacement for truly comprehensive care found at galactic standard medical facilities. Thus, it is commonly found onboard starships, ambulances, large vehicles, and remote outposts where medical care might be needed, but neither the time, expense, or space ability to maintain a full sickbay is warranted.

Hello!

Very unique submission, and I like the concept a lot.

I do have a few comments that will need to be addressed prior to approval.

  • Suspended Animation: Based upon your description, it appears as though the means through which you are achieving suspended animation is via a stasis field. Is there a limitation regarding how long the stasis field can effectively stave off the effects of a patient’s trauma? Or can the stasis field in theory remain active indefinitely?
  • Onboard MediScan Unit: The link to the mediscan unit you are referencing is broken. Please correct so that this can properly be reviewed.

Please tag me once these have been addressed.

For practical RP purposes here on the site, it's likely to be indefinite at that max setting - assuming it still has some sort of power source. The stasis field used to hold Volfe Karkko preserved him for a "a millennium" while Oubliettes (stasis caskets) preserved people for "thousands of years".

Good catch; fixed!
