Character Chen Yi

Chen Yi

Age:
30
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 80 kg
Force Sensitive: Yes

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Chen Yi dresses for the road rather than ceremony. His robes are layered linen, leather and wool in muted earth tones, weathered by years beneath unfamiliar suns and carefully repaired whenever they begin to wear through. Nothing he carries is ornamental. Every item has earned its place through usefulness.
His black hair is tied loosely behind his head, though wind and travel rarely leave it neat for long. A permanent layer of dark stubble frames his jaw, more the product of life on the road than deliberate style.
At his side hangs a well-maintained, leather-wrapped lightsaber inherited from his master, while a simple hardwood walking staff rarely leaves his hand. Across his shoulders rests a worn travelling pack filled with journals, tea, cooking supplies and the few possessions he considers worth carrying.
Chen has a habit of studying people before speaking. His calm expression and attentive eyes often leave others with the impression that, for a few moments at least, they have his complete attention.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Chen Yi is, above all else, a student.
Although he has earned the title of Jedi Knight, he considers his education far from complete. Every world, every culture and every person has something worth teaching, provided one is willing to listen. He is slow to judge and quick to ask questions, believing understanding is earned through experience rather than assumption.
Helping others is never separate from his journey. Whether repairing irrigation systems, working as a dockhand for passage aboard a freighter, escorting travellers through dangerous territory or sharing tea with strangers, Chen believes the Living Force reveals itself just as clearly through ordinary life as it does ancient temples or forgotten ruins.
He carries no ambition to found a new tradition or leave his name in history. He believes he is simply continuing the unfinished work of those who came before him.
Victory has never interested Chen as much as understanding. To him, every encounter is an opportunity to learn.

STRENGTHS

Patient Observer

Chen rarely rushes into action. He prefers to watch, listen and understand before making decisions, often noticing details others overlook.

Adaptable Wanderer
Years spent travelling have made Chen comfortable almost anywhere. Whether sleeping beneath the stars, aboard a cargo freighter or within a Jedi enclave, he adjusts quickly to unfamiliar surroundings.

Compassionate
Chen naturally looks for ways to help people. Acts of service are not distractions from his journey; they are part of it.

Open Mind
He is genuinely interested in different cultures, philosophies and Force traditions. Even when he disagrees with someone's beliefs, he seeks first to understand why they hold them.

WEAKNESSES

The Search Never Ends

Rumours concerning his missing master are difficult for Chen to ignore. Even the faintest lead can pull him away from stability or opportunities he might otherwise accept.

Slow to Distrust
Chen prefers giving people the opportunity to prove themselves before judging their character. While this has earned him many friends, it has also left him vulnerable to deception.

Owns Very Little
Without a ship or permanent home, Chen often depends on temporary work and the kindness of strangers to continue his journey.

Questions Before Action
Chen's desire to understand situations can sometimes delay decisive action. While he rarely hesitates out of fear, he does hesitate when he believes there may still be something left to learn.

HISTORY
Shen Ren spent decades wandering the galaxy as a Jedi Knight, seeking to better understand the Living Force through the worlds he visited and the people he met. Rather than recording doctrine, he recorded observations, believing wisdom could be found anywhere by those willing to look.
His apprentice, Liang Wei, recognised patterns hidden within those journals. Believing his master's travels represented the beginning of an unfinished philosophy, Liang retraced much of Shen Ren's journey, adding his own discoveries to a shared Holocron.
Chen Yi became Liang Wei's apprentice.

Unlike many Jedi, Chen's education took place almost entirely on the road. Worlds became classrooms, strangers became teachers and every journey offered another opportunity to better understand both the Force and the people who lived within it.
That education ended abruptly when Liang Wei disappeared without explanation.
Rather than abandon his master's work, Chen chose to continue it.
He now walks the same roads once travelled by Liang Wei and Shen Ren before him, searching for any trace of his missing teacher while adding his own observations to the growing Holocron.

He does not believe he is creating anything new. He is simply trying to finish another man's journey.
