Rygel Larraq sat at his office and reviewed the documents on his desk. Cargo manifests, shipping logs, purchase orders, and crew recruitments for five massive new vessels for Hyperion Mining stared back at him from atop the expensive wood of his desk. A half-filled ashtray sat to his left and a half emptied glass of scotch sat to his right.

The Concordance was a massive ship. Easily the equal to any ground-based mining facility in size, scope, and production potential. But where men, trucks, trains, and droids pumped metalic lifeblood through the veins of a planetary facility, freighters, shuttles, and specialized equipment kept the Concordance operating at peak efficiency. Somehow, he had to increase the productivity of each Concordance starship by an additional twenty percent to help Mandal Hypernautics recover the loss it took by providing Hyperion Mining with the ships and droids and specialized equipment for... nearly free. And, unfortunately, such increases in productivity would require an additional expenditure of credits.

It was for that reason that Larraq was browsing the holonet catalogs of the SSB for suitable products to supplement the numerous droids, shuttles, and mining vehicles he had already provided for each of Hyperion Mining's five new barges. At the moment, he was struggling to weigh the pros and cons of the Jo'henry Mining Vessel against the Akuze Mining Vessel. Each had a comparable capability to mine asteroids using specialized drilling beams, and each had a respectable cargo hold and hanger complement. But where the Jo'henry suplemented itself with scanning droids to help locate dense pockets of rare minerals, the Akuze equipped itself with a number of supplemental mining droids to help improve its yield.

In the end, Larraq came to the only logical conclusion. Purchase a few of both.

However, additional mining vessels were not the only asset the Concordance design required. And somehow, the sensor probes of the Jo'henry gave him an idea. What the Concordance needed most was a few support craft that could range ahead of the ship and scout out suitable sites for harvest. And after a few more minutes of searching he found the perfect candidate. The HCE-778 Planetary Survey Craft. He'd have to obtain at least two of the small ships for each Concordance. And if his knowledge of the ship's design was accurate, that would leave her with room for an additional six light freighters.

That left an obvious question for Larraq to solve. How many Jo'henry and Akuze Mining Vessels would he need? But the answer proved to be as obvious as the question. With the HCE-778's ranging ahead of the ship and scouting for suitable ore deposits, the extensive sensors probe complement of the Jo'henry would not be nearly as useful as the additional mining vehicles that the Akuze carried. Giving it a rough guess, stocking each Concordance with two Jo'henry's and four Akuze's sounded like an efficient compromise.

So far, Larraq was liking the potential efficiency of the new complement. The additional ships could drastically improve the productivity of each Concordance and her army of droids and workers. But what he would now need is a proper logistical train to support each operation. He needed to be able to quickly and cheaply ship men, food, and supplies to each ship, no matter where she went. Likewise he had to be able to keep up with the massive amount of raw material each ship was capable of producing. What he needed was freighters. He'd need some of the best bulk freighters in the galaxy, and he'd need a decent number of them.

Larraq already knew that his competitor, MandalMotors, produced a respectable bulk freighter. However, Larraq couldn't quite stomach the thought of relying solely on his competition's products to handle the logistics of his company. So he broadened his search on the SSB's holonet database to include freighter designs.

It wasn't long before he stumbled upon the Shen-Ru Ore Freighter. A ship designed from the ground up to do exactly what Hyperion Mining needed it for. Larraq knew instantly that he had to have the ship and began running the numbers against the official specs of the 'Bison' Bulk Freighter. From what his calculations were telling him, it would take four of the Ore Freighters to handle the same load as three Bulk Freighters. And with all seven of them, they could easily keep up with the demands of the Concordance Mining Barges and still prove of use to the other Hyperion Mining outposts.

Larraq leaned back in his chair and finished off his glass of whiskey. Forty seven ships. The dent to his company's assets was bad enough from the Concordance's alone. He'd need a sizable return on his investment rather quickly. The moment the ships are ready for use, they'd need to undertake a massive operation with immediate returns. Not to mention that Mandal Hypernautics would need to find a number of buyers for additional ships.

Larraq poured himself another glass of scotch and took a deep breath. He'd have to hold off on those concerns for the moment. He had more pressing matters to attend to. The first of which was to contact each of these manufacturers in turn and make his purchases. Hopefully after negotiating a slightly more favorable deal... Discounts were always helpful.

Larraq held down a button on his desk and activated the recording feature of his desk's communicator. “Greatings.” Larraq said into the mic. “This is Rygel Larraq of Mandal Hypernautics. I'm trying to speak with someone about a purchase I'd like to make from your company.” Taking his finger off the button, Larraq played back the recording and, finding it satisfactory, transmitted it to each company in turn.

Mandal Hypernautics being a partial owner of one of the Silk Group of Companies - ten percent, Reardon Metalworks - the communiqué got expedited. A high-level sales representative, a Whiphid named Anrakk, responded almost at once. The response was affable and professional, bolstered by an up-to-date product list and a notice that purchases by Mandal Hypernautics would fall under a ten percent discount.

The impeccably tailored Whiphid presented the material and asked to know what [member="Captain Larraq"]'s current needs were.

Seeing an opportunity, Larraq smiled and sipped at his scotch. "Thank you mam, I'm interested in acquiring ten of your Johenry Mining Vessels. However, now that I think about it, I may have something that could also be of use to your employers. I've developed a new line of mining vessels that are unrivaled in terms of scale and capabilities. I believe that your Reardon Metalworks would find them quite... beneficial." Larraq said to the woman. Only then did he remember his contractual agreement to provide the owner of said company with a 'favorable business deal'. Downing his glass of scotch in a single go, Larraq continued. "Should the owner be interested, I believe a sizable discount could be in order."

Unflustered at being referred to as ma'am, the Whiphid approved the sale of ten Jo'henry mining vessels. Upon informing Larraq that Reardon was 90% owned by Silk, the Whiphid added that he was wholly authorized to negotiate for Reardon Metalworks.

Though Reardon was thoroughly outfitted with Jo'henry- and Akuze-class vessels, those vessels filled only certain niches. The Concordance-class offered other benefits, for other roles. The Whiphid Anrakk, for his own clarification, inquired as to the vessel's proven relative utility in mining from planets versus asteroids, given its unique harvesting apparatus.

"The Concordance's original design intent was to act as a mobile mining platform from which numerous smaller, specialized mining vehicles could launch from and engage in extended operations anywhere a rare mineral was found. The Gravity Tether system was originally intended as a means of physically anchoring the ship to a sizable asteroid for long-term, strip-mine operations. The... 'planet cracking' capabilities that you are referring to were an unintentional capability that was discovered by some unscrupulous captains operating in the outer reaches of the galaxy."

"Comparing the process of harvesting a chunk of a planet and harvesting an asteroid is... a difficult comparison to make. It's not so much about the difference between the actual mining process as it is about the scale of the mining operation and the consolidated resources of an entire planet. You can mine an entire planet, section by section, far quicker than you can harvest an equal mass in asteroids. Simply because you do not have to go hunting for a new asteroid when you finish harvesting a section of planet. You simply move on to the next section and use 98% of the equipment you used to harvest the last chunk."

"When the mining process is first used, or used tentatively, the initial investment in time and effort appear to be quite a waste. It's not until well into the mining operation when you realize that you've never had to stop and hunt down a new, suitable asteroid that you begin to see the benefits. And when you compare the tactic to conventional planetary mining, the speed and efficiency offered by the Concordance is unparallelled."

"And that's without taking into consideration the potential gains after a decade long mining operation utilizing multiple Mining Barges has had time to carve away the upper layers of a planet and get at the denser ores hiding near the core of the planet."

"No... In an unpopulated system with unrestricted mining... Nothing compares to the Concordance."

The Whiphid sales executive took note of the pitch, consulting offscreen with others. As Larraq concluded, Anrakk gave a single nod.

"Reardon's procurement officers indicate that four such vessels would be an appropriate number." A good number for a pilot project, at any rate. If Reardon's output increased, more purchases would certainly be in the offing. "I'll attend to the funds. Once we see how well the vessel meets our needs, I'm certain our specialists will be in touch about the potential of a long-term relationship."

Not long after, a representative of Invictus Aeronautics called Yaren Sen'Vo returned Larraq's call. The Twi'lek female had an excellent phone manner, and appeared more than happy to help Mandal Hypernautics with what they would need. The two companies had done business before, and Sen'Vo had been instructed to provide Larraq with an appropriate discount.

The Twi'lek enquired as to Mandal's current needs and how many units they would be looking at purchasing.

"Yes, I'm looking to make a... bulk purchase." Larraq said to the Twi'lek representative. "My company has some needs that require attending to. And after doing some research I've concluded that two of your products are exactly what I'm needing." Taking a small sip of his scotch, Larraq continued. "I'd like to purchase twenty of your Akuze Mining Vessel and four of your Shen-Ru Ore Freighter."

And where were the spiders
Sometimes this job was pretty easy. There was a lot going on today, but it was mostly just observing and making sure that everything was not burning down around everyone. And him, because, that would be no good. Today his agenda was pretty light, and he was thankful for that. Checking the new message that was sent through, he nodded and opened it up.

Larraq, huh? He knew that name. Where was he knowing it from? He shrugged as he played. A purchase order. That explained why it went to him, and not his bugs. Well, not his, but the bugs. They were great but certain places they lacked. That made sense. Right, this was getting redirected.

Sending it down the hall, there was a pleasant dark-haired human female who answered the call. She was requesting more information on what purchase was to be made. As Haor Chall was linked to the Techno Union, there were a few extras that she had to ask, to see what product, especially that the small engineering company linked up with major companies often.

Rygel Larraq drummed the fingers of one hand on his desk while he smoked a cigarette with the other hand. So far, his calls had been getting answered pretty quickly and his new purchases would be getting shipped to him shortly. While he wallet was being slowly drained by these investments, he knew that they would pay off soon.

His desk chirped at him as one of the calls was received. The push of a button and the stamping out of his cigarette market the beginning of another purchase. "Thank you for taking the call." Larraq said to the dark-haired human girl on the other end of the call. "I'd like to obtain ten of your Planetary Survey Craft for use by Hyperion Mining. I think the vessel will become a great asset for the company."

Gilamar Skirata

The most important step is always the next one
That was a voice he didn't expect to hear in his office that morning. <Larraq huh...?> What could the young Mandalorian want from him? He would see soon enough. With a nod he dismissed the aide that had brought in the message and began recording another, <Larraq, if you have buisness that needs discussing you'll find me in the Oyu'baat for the next few hours.> Playing back the recording to himself he grinned before sending it out and standing, pulling his bantha leather jecket on and heading into Keldabe.

Rygel Larraq sighed as the old man hung up on him. As a Mando'ad, he couldn't help but have a great deal of respect for the man. But as a businessman, he really did hate [member="Gilamar Skirata"] sometimes. The man expected him to fly halfway across the planet and meet him in a bar just to place an order for a couple of freighters. Larraq was overdue for a lunch break as it was... But it would take him hours to shuttle his way to Keldabe.

Larraq leaned back into his chair, closed his eyes, and rubbed his temples. <Fine. We'll do this the hard way.> Larraq thought to himself as he opened his eyes. A few minutes later and Rygel Larraq was in his personal shuttle and making his way to Keldabe as he sipped on a glass of scotch and continued to address the mound of paperwork that kept him busy.

Ten? WEll, that was a pretty big bulk sale. And if she wasn’t mistaken, Starchaser put a discount on most bulk sales of things that above half a dozen, barring droid and weapons assets from this list. She tapped a few keys onto the datapad, to pull up the assets for Haor Chall and Arakyd. Working for the Techno Union and in acquisitions got pretty drowning sometimes. Still, she was going to do her best.

“Ten? Are you going to be doing pick up, or would you like delivery?” That was the next charge. And if she was making a delivery order that meant reaching out to Danger and having this picked up. Wonderful. More work.
