Born Sarai Tommlan, Charlana's parents were traders. Her Sephi father, Human mother and their child traveled together on the family freighter. She was an adventurous and fearless girl. Even as a youth Sarai knew she was different. She just 'felt' it. And she could feel when someone else was 'different' too. She had even learned how to do some small tricks, but never showed anyone. Then, two days after her 10th birthday, the family landed on Antamont, a farming planet in the Outer RIm. The second night into their visit to trade for local goods, The family was attacked and Sarai was abducted.
Her captors were the Jarvashquiine, a coven of spiritual cultists, called shamans by the local population. For the Jarvashiquiine, access to their mystic powers (the Force) was believed possible only through blood rituals. Sarai's sacrifice would provide innocent blood to sustain their dark powers.
Readied to be sacrificed, the docile, frightened child suddenly burst into movement. The plucky girl snatched the dagger from the shaman's hand and plunged the dagger into his chest and killed him.
Instead of killing the gifted child, the cult adopted her. With her parents killed during Sarai's abduction, the bold young girl was raised by her family's killers. Sarai became one of them. The new Shaman Mother finished raising Sarai, whom she renamed Charlana, teaching her the way of the Jarvashqiine shamanistic magic. She became strong in their dark mysticism. But she was not content with the primitive, sheltered life of the shamans. She knew the galaxy was larger, she had been there. She imagined what she could be beyond the limits of the Jarvashquiine.
Making her decision, Charlana waited for traders to arrive again to the planet, and she purchased passage with them in the guise of a star-eyed young woman eager to see the galaxy. Her quest for more knowledge and power had begun. Her journey would be filled with difficulty, blood, violence and crime. She learned that the nature of her abilities did not require blood rituals to perpetuate. She only need tap into the energy called the Force. She joined a pirate crew, and worked her way to take the ship herself, relieving the incompetent captain of his command, and his life.
She made a name for herself as a pirate queen, But Charlana, even in her unorthodox thinking, knew there was a more sustainable way to existe. Being much more entrepreneurial than her predecessor, Charlana focused on smuggling other efforts. Anything that kept the ship running and the wine vault full.

Charlana has a slender but fit physique. Her dirty blonde hair is long and unruly and often in dreadlocks. Bright blue eyes and long pointed ears betray her Sephi heritage. Her garments are eclectic at best, a hot mess in truth. She prefers a patchwork of plasteel and leather armor that covers only her most vital organs. To this Charlana adds bangles and baubles that defy any sort of style. She sports some tattoos, occasional piercings and even war paint when the mood strikes her.
If armed, she holsters a blaster at her hip, on the other hip a rather primitive knife is sheathed. A fuel gun and vibrosaber are added when a bigger fight is expected.

Charlana was trained in "shamanistic mysticism" of the Jarvashquiine, these manifested as powers related to manipulation of the elements, "spirits" and the more mystical aspects of the Force of all alignments. After leaving the Jarvashquiine, she learned the power she called upon was also called the Force, and does not require blood rituals to use. She still refers to the Force as the Spirit, the Spirits or other shamanistic terms. Examples of her abilities include:
