Character Deletion?

Once upon a time. With the high rate of it happening, it was disallowed. You simply reuse the old account, with a new character generally. That or mark it as inactive.

To elaborate:

Too many accidental writer account deletions, and cases of regret, prompted a freeze on the process.

So the answer is no, the above reasoning is why. Just leave an account unused or request a name change for it if you wish to reuse it.

Simply have the profile renamed and either reuse it or leave it be.

Your explanation was incorrect. It didn't have to do with how many requests were made, it was due to the errors made during the process. For example, my writer account instead of the intended sub-account was deleted last year on Jan 10th and had to be restored by Tefka. The join date listed on my profile is incorrect due to it now stating when the account was recreated/restored.

Further, deleting a profile makes all posts they made look really bad too.

To many requests -> Oversight issues -> mistakes being made. That was the basis I heard. Which in the end is exactly as you stated with lesser explanation.
