Character Deaths & Losing Battles

What was the coolest character death you've seen (exclude my own character, Teferi Efreet, please), and if you can't think of one, what was the funnest duel you were in that you actually ended up losing? I wanna hear your gnarliest stories about how your characters got absolutely beat down into a pulp, your tragic demise at the hands of a villain or the enemy's heroic triumph over your cold, dead fingers.

I love tragedy. I love reading tragedy. I love building up to that moment where you think it's all going to go someone's way and then bam, reality kicks in the door. As role-players, I understand it's hard for us to let go of our characters, but the truest excitement that I personally find in role-playing is tragedy.

So, what's your story?

It didn't happen at SWRPG, but some people here may remember DonFatso. Over at the place which shall not be named, in the Siege of Coruscant, Kamon fought his official Imperial Stormtrooper char (I can't remember the numbers). They duked it out throughout Coruscant, even under Coruscant. Kamon gave him the chance to save himself, to surrender, but he wouldn't surrender to a Jedi. He brought his gun up to shoot at Kamon, so Kamon plunged both of his sabers into him, killing him.

Other than that, the only character death I remember being involved with was at TRF when Kamon's master, Xylon Hexyra was killed during battle, but I barely remember anything about it.

Je'gan's second death, at the hands of @[member="Sky Kerberos"], his wife. They'd been Sith who turned Jedi and then Jedi Masters together, took a stab at invading Korriban...but then Malice turned her back to the Dark Side. She ravaged the galaxy and killed him in a sabre duel on a rocky beach. Neither of them every knew their twin children, Cerberus and Alia.

One of my SW characters, an alternate universe Mirus Cavataio, led an invasion into a city that had been taken by rebels. It turned out these 'rebels' were a competing Sith cult. Mirus, at the time, as a Knight-level, confronted the Master of the cult in a rooftop lightsaber duel after blowing out the city's main power generator. Total darkness, lightsaber duel fifty floors up on the roof of this building with wind blowing everywhere. Barely any footing. He was totally outmatched but he knew he had to win somehow before he got blown off the tower - so he grabs the guy and stabs his lightsaber through himself just so he can take this guy's heart clean out. His allies re-took the city and in a nice touch they gave him a memorial statue.

On another site I wrote a Jedi who had another Sith PC character as a rival from day 1. During the course of that IRL year we fought many times to a gentleman's draw. Eventually he was persuaded by a comrade to join the Light Side, repent, and start over as a family man on Naboo. It was my first rivalry and it ended with a new ally. Not just for me but for the families we planned to grow and protect together. Our heroes sparred, our wives held parties, and our future kids shared names and inspirations.

Sadly, his character was soon assassinated by the Sith comrades he willfully abandoned. And to further compliment that writer, he kept the character dead and let the consequences fall where they may. Solidifying the drama and finishing his Star Wars Epic. His character lived as a villain, and died as a hero. :D

I would have enjoyed seeing this story.

It was epic. Half-way through we both had to escort a God-Like-Savior teenage girl to stop her God-Like-Destroyer father from conquering a solar system. Jedi and Sith working together to defeat an even greater threat. Coupled, that both our characters had months of RP history trying to specialize in killing one-another. And in the end we both stood toe-to-toe with him like Goku and Vegeta and still lost. But, our mutual sacrifice in skin and blood bought enough time for the teenage girl to save the galaxy and destroy him.

So yeah. Losing and RP, can be EPIC! :D

On another board there was an epic showdown between several characters. The New Imperial Federation had assaulted a Republic stronghold and was winning, but taking massive casualties in the process. My stormtrooper lost 80% of the forces under his command. The Emperor's personal assassin and a Dark Jedi confronted the Emperor on the surface of the planet amidst the invasion. The assassin set off a chain reaction of nuclear bombs she had planted beforehand, wiping out most of the forces on the planet's lava surface. Then she and the dark jedi duked it out with the Emperor, while surrounded by a ring of the Emperor's elite undead legion of Blood troopers.

The Emperor was the conquest-hungry clone of his more moderate predecessor, who had died absorbing too much dark side energy trying to become Sith'ari. The Emperor had engaged in a costly war with the New Republic, heedless of the lives it cost. He was remorseless and he needed to die.

He was, however, untouchable, wielding two blades and in heavy battle armor. He decimated the Dark Jedi and buried him beneath a pile of volcanic rock. The assassin pressed in and almost managed to land a blow, when from behind the Emperor's personal android, who was programmed with an innocent personality, stabbed the assassin in the back with a vibroknife. The assassin watched helplessly as the Emperor raised both blades and decapitated her. The Dark Jedi managed to survive and fled. The Emperor's body then faded into nonexistence. The scene panned to the Emperor's super star destroyer, where the real Emperor sat on the bridge, his force phantom on the surface vanishing. He had never even been on the planet.

On another forum, this character's love interest was stabbed in the neck by an otter-alien. I thought it was hilariously sad (and funny) because she was as strong a Dark Jedi as any master, and was surrounded by an entourage of heavily armed and elite marines. The otter, however, was a schizophrenic otter with no military training whatsoever.

Ah, well, I guess you had to be there.

Started off fairly simple then I used land mines, my three lightsabers, a couple of attack droids, a dozen missiles. It was a blast. I can't wait for us to do the duel where he tries to rescue his mother.......

I loved a duel with Scarlett. Basically, Selena just got wrecked. Glass shards littered her body. She took a lightsaber to the side as well as got stabbed in the shoulder. If not for Scarlett's superiors calling an end to the fight it would have definitely ended in Selena's death. The fact that she kept on moving after some of her wounds was a wonder. It was a blast. I loved RPing it. The following RPs where the wounds were still healing and the scar tissue was still fresh and tight was a delight as well.

I'm dueling Karen right now in a non-canon situation, win or lose, it's probably gonna be a good read

My best death wasn't on this board. It was when I killed off my first character and character I still hold in the highest regard, a Jedi Master named Tiam Bai. So, I basically had her going into middle-age, her kids out of the nest. I have her fall ill and try to continue to be this strong, wise Jedi. No one knows except for her best friend and Bai goes out fighting a Sith, escaping to return home wounded and die. I'm not too ashamed to admit that I actually called up another writer who was involved in the story and we cried over her death.

I recently tried RPing the character again and it didn't have the same feel or vibe. Probably because of the emotional impact her final posts had that I just can't bring myself to resurrect the character.
