The shield can be used to block attacks, or strike against someone else at medium range, unlike a physical shield the Chakram has an energy edge. While unable to cut like a lightsaber the Chakram is a powerful construct of energy, and a strike with the edge leaves transfers an intense stun effect to its target. [/SIZE]

This allows the shield to be launched at a moment’s notice, but on the other hand, it gives the shield only a limited capacity before it fails. [SIZE=9pt]The Ancile Shield proved to be a success for Locke and Key Mechanics, a deployable shield capable of some limited offensive and defensive functions. That was the model produced for the mass market, but it wasn’t the first model produced by Locke and Key Mechanics. The prototype was more powerful, much more powerful. The original concept the engineers designed utilised the light shield technology used by Jedi as an off-hand weapon. Their thought was that it would allow the shield a variety of uses, both offensively and defensively. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=9pt]What they found though was the offensive options were too high, and there was too much potential for the weapon to end up hurting as much as it helps. It was only after one of the testers almost lost a foot that the engineers decided that as powerful as the shield was, it was maybe too much for a normal soldier. The design prototypes were shelved in the vault as the engineers stepped down the specs to create a blunt force weapon, The prototypes sat in the vault until John Locke remembered them and pulled them out and reviewed the designs. They weren’t practical for mass production when compared to the final Ancile Shield, however, the Chakram was more powerful, more capable. The prototype contained a larger capacitor and a cutting blade. Locke and Key had no plans to produce more of the Chakrams, but those prototypes that existed could be given out for use.[/SIZE]

So this is essentially a rounded lightsaber that somehow emits to look like a shield? Do you have evidence of lightsabers being able to be shaped like this? Because it's one thing to have an energy shield on your arm. It's another to shield shaped lightsaber.

First thanks for reviewing the sub.

I'm basing the idea of a buckler shaped lightsaber on the Light Shield.

According to Wookiepedia the shield uses the same principles as a lightsaber, and is capable of deflecting both blasters and other lightsabers. It is because of that line that I chose to treat them as lightsabers, able to provide a cutting edge as well as shielding protection.

The article on light shields doesn't say it gives those shields anything but defensive properties however. I'll confer with my fellow judges but unless we can find a working example I'm hesitant to move forward without other limitations.

That's is completely fair and if needed I'm happy to work with you to balance the submission further. I think in this case seeing that it was based on lightsaber technology I made the assumption that it could cut, but if you guys decide it needs to be limited, or the technology shouldn't have offensive capabilities then I am happy to work with those restrictions.

If I can make an argument in my favour though, a lightsaber is a blade of plasma suspended in a containment field (Source). Containments fields and forcefields can be made in a multitude of shapes depending on the mechanics, so being able to flatten out a blade to take the shape of a buckler should be theoretically possible, indeed the article on light shields refers to fields having their shapes manipulated. Of course, the balancing aspects of this are an entirely other matter, as well as the element of being able to use this idea in Chaos. I just wanted to more clearly exp[lain my reasoning.

First off, thank you for patience. We really wanted examine every angle and throughly search for examples in your favor.

After some major dilberations we've come to a agreement that although there are some similarities between the base function between a lightsaber emitter and a light shield emitter, there simply is no example of a shaped lightsaber to resemble a shield. Going with the established example we can only see the Jedi training shield which has no record of cutting power. Thus the submission cannot be accepted in its current state.

Here are some compromises and rough outline worked out to keep this unique:

-a distinction must be made to say if this is an energy or kinetic shield. Shields in Star Wars typically do not block both effectively
-you can say that this device can block or repel saber strikes as though it was a saber
-you can say hitting someone with the projection of energy would cause an intense stun effect similar to other stun based weapons
-it would possess no cutting power
-we would leave its frankly powerful charging system in place, thus giving this sub unprecedenced lifetime on a battlefield
-we can keep some resistant to both energy and kineitc, but in that case the recharge rate would be drastically cut back to compensate for that unique ability: a rate so profound it would lose the ability to be thrown and used again in the same duel (minutes of recharge)

Firstly thank you, both to you and the other Factory Judges and Admins who took the time to research and discuss my submission.

While having the cutting edge of a lightsaber would have been excellent, I completely understand where you guys are coming from and the shield as you suggest is excellent for what I eventually have in mind for them. I have adjusted the sub to follow the suggestion as put out, removing references to the ability t cut and specialising it as an energy shield over a physical shield.

Please look through and see if I have everything correct and that meets your approval.
