- [ Lever Action Design ] | The design philosophy behind it being made as a lever action rifle, is it's easy to load, quick on followup shots, quick target acquisition and general ease of use.
- [ Alternate Fire ] | Careena's rifle is an interesting hybrid take on a lever action rifle. Its features a dual barrel design that fires different types of ammunition; Energy cells and tibanna gas for the blaster barrel and slugs for the Verpine Shatter Gun. The Defender features two separate firing modes; Its primary fire mode utilizes the blaster aspect of the weapon, packing a hefty punch from medium range. The secondary mode utilizes a separate barrel that uses Verpine Shattergun tech to accelerate projectiles at high velocities and inflict massive damage. The ammunition that this mode can take is highly personalized by Careena to suit whatever she might encounter, making it a highly versatile weapon.
- [ Range Conversion ] | The Defender has an alternate mode for both of its firing modes, extending the barrel and converting the rifle into a long range sniper for when targets need to be dealt with from an even further distance away.
- [ Maintenance ] | Since it utilizes two fundamentally different designs incorporated into a single weapon, there can be issues with maintenance and requires regular maintenance to ensure that the weapon is operating at peak efficiency. Damage to the lever can also significantly hinder its usage in combat till it is repaired as it won't be able to cycle or chamber rounds properly.
- [ Fire Rate ] | Since it is a lever action design for both firing modes, the fire rate of the Defender is lacking, especially when compared to standard weapons in its class due to the need of having to move the lever. This fire rate is slower by a large margin especially when using the sniper configuration for the slugthrower aspect of the weapon.
- [ Reload ] | While the Defender can hold and feed rounds to fire initially, once those slugs have been fired, requires manual reload which is slower than standard weapons due to needing to be fed into the tube one at a time in order to maintain fire. Quick to load one shell and fire at a time, but lengthy if one wants to go from empty to full.
DESCRIPTION
Careena's signature weapon that she designed herself is called the CF-Defender. It is a sleek design that is a mix of dark grey and silver, designed to be comfortable and effectively used by Careena. The Defender is based off of a lever action design, something that Careena had grown to enjoy using as it was made to suit her preferred range of combat which was medium to long range. It utilizes a hybrid design, featuring a standard barrel for blaster fire and a secondary barrel that utilizes Verpine shattergun tech to fire slugs with deadly precision and lethal damage.
While lever actions were not originally designed for extreme ranges compared to snipers, Careena managed to design and build the Defender to convert itself into a long range sniper mode so that she had options for when it came to ranged combat, and in her hands is a deadly tool. The extendable stock and barrel allows for her to effectively increase its range to be on par with that of most standard snipers. The addition of its scope being able to link up with her helmet's HUD gives her the zoom magnification she needs to hit her targets for either of the Defender's configurations or firing modes.
