STANDARD FEATURES
  • Improved avionics package and new airframe made of lighter and more flexible laminasteel and additional weapons packages.
  • Powerful engines and excellent avionics makes this an ideal interceptor coupled with its rapid scramble time due to it being a droid.
  • Two hard-points for ground attack missiles or bombs in between the central fuselage and outboard engines.
  • Reentry shields for going in and out of atmosphere at speed.
  • Has a built-in kamikaze contingency if it is damaged and unable to return or otherwise incapable of engaging a target like a ship.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Advanced ECM Jammer pod built into the belly of the aircraft underneath the fuselage, able to jam and track positions of missiles and scanners for self-defense and mimic many different EM profiles.
  • Advanced holographic projector able to mimic detailed models of different starfighters, bombers, and dropships several times its own size for use in decoy roles.
  • The "Viper Mk. II" now has a magnetic signature emitter able to mimic other craft's magnetic signature to assist in spoofing enemy scanners and drawing fire away from more vulnerable bombers or dropships.
  • Advanced dogfighting programs developed from Crossroads best pilots as well as from analysis of notable dogfights between other Chaos powers with hundreds of starships' specs and strengths and weaknesses downloaded into the droid brain with contingency maneuvers for each craft in the even they are faced.
STRENGTHS
  • Flexible mission sets, able to take on the role of interceptor, escort, light bomber, SEAD, and decoy droid. The Mk. II is now able to add anti-ship missions to its mission set.
  • Quite fast and very agile, improved avionics package and dogfighting subroutines make the Mk. II a much better tactician than the Mk. I.
  • Small profile, makes it a small target.
  • Easy to manufacture, the Mk. II now benefits from increased manufacturing proficiency using lessons learned from the Mk. I model. This means any Mk. I's produced for sales to third parties can expect better prices for their own Vipers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Has no hyperdrive.
  • Requires an equipped command center to operate at best capacity when in a ground-support role, this was a weakness the Mk. I that the Mk. II has inherited.
  • Rather fragile due to not possessing deflector shields, a potential shielded version was found to be far too expensive for massive purchases.
  • Possesses a shorter range than it did previously when used in atmospheric flight thanks to the additional weapons packages.
DESCRIPTION
The "Viper Mk. II" Droid Starfighter is the new premier defense fighter of the Crossroads Republic, now able to go after enemy starships as well as bombers and fighters with great proficiency thanks to its new weapons packages and tactical subroutines. Its new and improved airframe is lighter and more flexible, able to better handle the stresses of complex dogfighting. The new Viper was designed and put into mass production due to an impetus for new anti-shipping capability so that all the minor Crossroads Republic colonies could engage with and succeed in defeating enemy ships without the Crossroads Fleet having to dedicate its own capital units to defeating what scenarios always believe to be locally-superior forces. This new anti-ship capability makes even the smallest of colonies or the Crossroads Republic Fleet's escort carriers quite lethal to the type of raiding frigate and corvette forces that are believed to be the greatest potential threat to logistics ships and civilian merchant traffic.
