STANDARD FEATURES
  • The Mk. II is made of laminasteel, a more flexible material compared to the more rigid and expensive alusteel of the previous variant.
  • The Mk. II has an electromagnetic plasma projector and a pair of laser cannons in its wing-roots.
  • Powerful thrusters and avionics to provide additional capabilities to the craft's elusiveness.
  • Has weak deflector shields able to deflect shrapnel and airbursts as well as weak laser blasts.
  • Droid brain is capable plotting its own flight path and can self-course correct and target its own weapons based on pre-determined rules of engagement and selected target profiles.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • The Mk. II possesses folding wings and better avionics to allow for efficient operations from a ship.
  • Advanced multi-spectral scanners and sensors are linked to a powerful communications suite provide a direct link to command networks to give a live-feed.
  • Sensors feeding its targeting computer provides highly-precise bomb drops and missile strikes at high speeds on moving targets, mostly tanks and other vehicles.
  • EM scanners provide an ideal SEAD platform to go after enemy air defenses.
STRENGTHS
  • Capable of aggressive autonomous operations, the Mk. II's upgrades include autonomous squadron attack patterns.
  • Live-feed comms links its highly-sensitive sensors and scanners.
  • Long-range/high-endurance flight means this can provide constant battlefield support to ground forces.
  • Fast and maneuverable, starfighter-level nimbleness.
  • Flexible payloads thanks to external hardpoints, with the Mk. II having an electromagnetic plasma projector it can remain on station far longer after it's used its missiles and/or bombs.
  • Capable SEAD platform thanks to its scanners.
WEAKNESSES
  • Has no armor whatsoever.
  • Vulnerable to intercept from starfighters.
  • Weak shielding.
  • Needs a maintenance corps to keep large numbers functioning.
  • Incapable of space flight.
  • Its engines are exposed, hitting them will disable the craft.
DESCRIPTION
The "Hornet Mk. II" is the go-to hunter-killer, and recon craft of the Crossroads Republic for contested airspace strike missions and battlefield support. Its light build, semi-stealthy profile, and powerful jammers make this craft tough for air defenses to detect except at close ranges. Now with the craft being upgraded to the Mk. II variant has been powerfully modified to be a longer-lasting craft which can keep punching after its hardpoints are empty and can do this from a ship, which makes the ship's ammunition lockers last longer when in active combat operations. These droids are designed to assist in planetary assaults by operating from carriers where their new modifications for hangar space maximization and longer time-on-station makes them much more lethal threats in the battlespace, and a go-to for ground troops needing help.
