Strengths:
  • Baradium Warhead: Differing from a typical assault concussion missile primarily in its warhead, the CBM-20 carries a significant-sized baradium warhead. This provides several advantages. Due to the amount of baradium present in the warhead it can achieve a 100m blast radius with the potential to destroy nearly anything within the blast. In addition, a major effect of baradium is that it produces a particle field around the explosion, containing the damage of the blast within a solid field.
  • On-board Defenses: Each unit contains defenses on-board to protect it and ensure that the payload is delivered to the target. Firstly, they’re armed with a deflector shield generator, protecting the unit from incoming laser fire. Second, an anti-ECM suite is also installed, hardening the missiles against electronics designed to disarm or otherwise prevent the unit from reaching its target.
Weaknesses:
  • Projectiles: The missile’s alusteel casing is sturdy, but not particularly armored physically, making it susceptible to attacks from point defenses and projectiles like mass drivers and missile systems. These run a high risk of preventing it from reaching its target and either harmlessly floating away or prematurely detonating, depending on where it is struck.
  • Targeting: While they are very fast in flight, the CBM-20 isn’t a particularly accurate weapon, lacking in proper targeting mechanics for smaller and more nimble ships. As such it can’t target anything smaller than a frigate, though its maximum potential with targeting is only achieved with 1000m or larger-sized craft.
  • Long Ranges: Despite possessing the ability to strike craft at quite a fair distance from its point of origin, targeting ships at such distances can be problematic, as in the time it takes for the missile to approach, the target can plan a defense or potentially jump to hyperspace to escape.
DESCRIPTION

With the newly granted access to the baradium resources of Halamir, the floodgates were opened for EODD to begin growing its as yet limited catalogue of weaponry using the volatile chemical. The CBM-20 is the pinnacle of such efforts. Much like an assault concussion missile, the CBM-20 is an exceptionally large and powerful weapon designed to tear up capital ships as quickly as possible. Based heavily on its predecessor, the EAM-9, the CMB-20 carries a much larger payload in comparison, capable of producing a blast with a diameter of 100m, taking advantage of baradium’s capability to vaporize anything within its blast.

The large baradium charge however is not the only thing that the CBM-20 carries within its casing. An ion drive allows it to reach hypersonic speeds of 3km/s, crossing the void of space quickly in order to deliver its payload unto enemy craft. To aid in achieving this goal a deflector shield generator was placed on the weapon, keeping it protected from incoming laser fire, as was an anti-ECM suite to protect it from enemy electronic warfare that would otherwise disarm or divert it in flight. This does however leave it vulnerable to kinetic weapon rounds and enemy missiles dedicated to anti-missile duties.
