- Alchemical durability.
- Radically watered-down Phobis Device effect produces fear in immediate area.
- Projects a powerful fear aura over a 10-meter radius or thereabouts.
- Auras can stack and expand on each other, within reason (e.g. a dozen Dark Templar might generate a fear aura with a radius of 50 meters).
- Tough against standard weapons. High lightsaber resistance (e.g. a lightsaber will scar the metal, and a thrust might even punch through given a few seconds to work).
- Wearer gradually develops resistance to Force fear effects.
- Fear effect cannot be turned off.
- Fear effect applies to friendly and enemy forces and civilians indiscriminately.
- The metal conducts electricity, instead of absorbing/dampening it like many other alchemical alloys.
- Quite heavy.
- Wearers must overcome and master their own fear through familiarity with the breastplate, and wearing the breastplate can still incur mental effort/strain in weak moments.

The resulting breastplates are decent high-end alchemical metal, comparable to beskar or phrik. What makes them special is that each is a modest copy of an ancient Phobis Device, a fear engine. Catharian Hegemony Dark Templars already caused their fair share of fear; now that share is entirely unfair.
