- 1x custom gravity well projector
- “Area” setting: The area setting creates a spherical gravity well extending 40 km in all directions.
- “Focus” setting: The focus setting can be aimed and creates a focused, cone-shaped gravity well extending up to 200 km with a maximum diameter of 1 km. Notably, the focused gravity well is a good brute-force counter to hyperwave inertial momentum sustainers (HIMS) at maximum effective range due to the sheer length of the gravity well often surpassing the distance a ship can travel in a HIMS-generated “hyperspace bubble”. However, it is important to note that very large ships and ships interdicted closer than 250 km away from a Carceral will usually have enough momentum to bypass the gravity well and the interdictor itself before entering realspace.
- 2x tractor beam projectors (bottom-mounted)
- Interdictor: True to their name, Carceral-class interdictors are designed for interdiction, using their gravity well generator to pull other ships out of hyperspace.
- Focus Field: Carceral-class interdictors can switch between an “area” gravity well with 360 degree coverage and a smaller but far longer ranged and more intense “focus” well capable of stopping even HIMS if a ship is caught at maximum range.
- Surprisingly Fast: Despite their seemingly unwieldy frames, Carceral-class interdictors are quite fast.
- No Big Guns: Carceral-class interdictors lack turbolasers or heavy weapons for fighting ships of their own size.
- Exposed Bulb: The sole gravity well projector on the Carceral-class interdictor is highly visible and protected only by light armor plating once the interdictor’s shields fail. If destroyed, the Carceral-class loses its interdiction capabilities if not most of its hull integrity.
- Snap the Spine: The “spine” of the Carceral-class just before its stern protrusions is the thinnest part of the hull and the second most vulnerable part of the interdictor only behind its gravity well projectors. Breaking the spine is consequently one of the fastest ways to disable a Carceral-class interdictor.
DESCRIPTION
The Carceral-class is Alge Imperial’s first official venture into interdictor ships.
Unlike more famous models such as the Immobilizer-418 and the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer, the Carceral has only a single gravity well projector. However, recent AISI innovations built atop gradual technological developments has given the Carceral-class a unique degree of versatility unlike any interdictor before it.The Carceral-class is Alge Imperial’s first official venture into interdictor ships.
Most notable among these innovations is the dual setting on the interdictor’s gravity well projector. The two settings are an “area” setting capable of interdicting all ships in a given diameter and a “focus” setting with a smaller but more concentrated gravity well that can be projected over a much longer range.
The area setting is most effective at defending a fleet or installation from close-range ambushes or microjumps by starfighters. Meanwhile, the focus setting is most effective at policing established hyperlanes where hyperspace traffic can be isolated to specific areas. Furthermore, very large ships or smaller HIMS-capable ships may require the longer ranged focus setting in order to avoid collision or stall their momentum respectively.
