Captain On Deck

Outer Rim
Orbiting Rutan
In recent years, after much hardship and effort on behalf of all those within, The Carrion Company had finally been able to expand enough to spread it's presence throughout the entirety of the Outer Rim. However; despite that fact there was still a clear and distinct lack of skilled pilots and space bound tacticians within the troupe itself. Arlan, hoping the rid the groups of it's general lack of skill, arranged a meeting with a long time spacer and ship captain above the planet of Rutan. Captain Jeremiah Erastus was the man Arlan sincerely hoped would join the company and help coordinate it's fleet at a more personal level. At the very least, Arlan hoped to convince him to join so he'd have one skilled captain under his belt should an operation arise where he needed one. Being in such a precarious situation was not something Arlan relished, being beholden to another, but he would humble himself just for today until this meeting concluded.

"Captain." Arlan's voice cut over a com-link. "Tell me when our guest's ship arrives. I want him escorted on board to the ship's lounge without incident." Arlan directed. "And get him here quickly."

"Yes commander." A mousy voice called back. "We'll radio him and bring him on board as soon as he arrives."

Arlan didn't radio back, he didn't have to. Responding with anything more would just be wasting time and that was something Arlan never had much of these days. His men knew what they needed to do, and in turn they knew what was expected of Arlan. Everyone had a role to play in the company, and should Erastus join so too would he.

"Prepare to land.", the thick, Correlian voice beamed through the ship's intercom. The Captain had been called here today for a rather odd request. Join some form of organization. Now to be honest, the Captain did not know a damn thing about neither the man or location he was visiting. However, after ignoring the protests of his men, he finally prepared to land the mighty vessel. Slowly, he rose from his seat and awaited any further instruction he may or may not have received.

The Captain wore his elegant blue silk trench cape along with his large turban and Bantha-hide shirt.. His facial hair had been groomed especially for this occasion and his boots clearly had been shined. White gloves stretched up to his elbows as he quickly adjusted the collar of his cape and once again sat down in the command chair. Suddenly, a large and filthy crew mate rushed over to the captain, gasping for breath.

"S-sir, I-I..."

"Enough!", the Captain barked, interrupting his ship mate mid-sentence. "I'd like you to retrieve the gifts. These include the decorated Durasteel cigarette case, the bottle of high-quality Correlian rum, and the Churchwarden pipe.", the Captain bellowed.

"B-but sir, what if the man simply does not smoke!?", the man argued.

The Captain chuckled, waving the man away as he adjusted his eye patch.

"Then he can do whatever he wishes with them. Now, I'd appreciate it if you could retrieve the tokens of our appreciation!"

Arlan sat alone in the lounge, not a place he particularly like to be. In fact he detested such places even being on a ship of his but noted their importance for morale. In hindsight Arlan did agree that they served an important role during occurrences like the one he was presently in, for where else would he meet and esteemed guest? So, as it were, Arlan waited pondering what he would say to the captain once he boarded the ship. It wasn't quite in Arlan's nature to play the poor begging host, so he refused to do so. He was a direct man, a man with little training in any sort of etiquette. Arlan knew he needed to try to be accommodating, laying what he wanted out there with as much grace as he could muster. Unfortunately such a task was not something Arlan was gifted at, and in the past such attempts resulted with Arlan demanding something and delivering a rather nasty ultimatum should someone refuse. Of course he had no reason to do such a thing to Captain Erastus and doubted such an instance would occur again today, but he knew far too well his shortcoming in rhetoric.

"Commander Zy'rosh." The mousy voice appeared on the com-link again. "We've picked up a ship on the radar, it appears to be our guests." The voice stated.

"Good, good." Arlan barked. "Radio ahead and let them knew we are expecting them and ready to link up at their discretion."

That had been faster than Arlan anticipated, but that was a good thing. Arlan always felt cold in space, no matter how high a ship's heating was. He was ready to conclude this meeting and head back down to Rutan, hopefully followed by a new captain and his ship.

He listened carefully as he received a radio broadcast declaring the speaker prepared to link up. The Captain nodded to a nearby man who quickly sprinted out of the room as Captain Erastus removed a silver, durasteel cigarette case. In fine, elegant, bold cursive spelled out "Adson-Ala" and below, in simple bold text, wrote "20 High-Quality, Unfiltered King Size Cigarettes.". It was a rare occurrence that the Captain lit up a cigarette. Personally, he preferred pipes and cigars but when this rare oppurtunity presented itself, The Captain refused to purchase anything other than the Adson-Ala brand, a Correlian luxury brand of cigarettes intended for the wealthy, upper-class that provided a rich, dark tobacco flavor.

Slowly, the Captain popped open the lid of the metallic cigarette case, loosening the band around a row of cigarettes. Carefully, he plucked an unfiltered cigarette from the case and brought it to his lips. Slipping the case back into his Bantha-hide shirt, he quickly struck a match and raised it to the end of the cigarette, watching as the tobacco ignited. He calmly puffed on the cigarette, exhaling thick, white billows of smoke.

He plucked the cigarette from his mouth for a moment in between his index finger and thumb, quickly discarding the ash on the end of the cigarette before taking another puff. Finally, he had his men prepare to send a message and began to speak:

"I appreciate the invitation. I am prepared for the link, thank you!".

The two ship's drew close, Arlan constantly monitoring any chatter over the comms as they did so. Not that he expected anything out of the ordinary to happen while en-route to meet his new compatriot, just that as a man he was that of a cautious sort. From what Arlan knew about his guest he assumed this visit would be of a cordial nature but never had Arlan let his guard drop whilst in the vast expanse of space. He had always been a good pilot, that much was certain, but he couldn't help but feel uneasy on the monolithic ships that cut through the darkness. One rupture would be all it took to doom everyone on board, with that line of thinking how could anyone be okay sailing on such vessels? That was perhaps the largest reason Arlan needed Erastus to come around and join the company, for while he was a home in a cockpit, directing ships from a command center was no where near Arlan's forte. A sigh would escape him as he monitored their approach to Erastus' ship, wondering what the captain was doing in this moment aboard his own vessel.

"Commander, approaching link vector. Should we engage?" A voice called out over the comms.

"Yes, let's get this underway." Arlan barked as he stood and made his way over to a view port. "As soon as we link send an escort over and bring the captain aboard. I want this meeting done already." Arlan continued, making sure he was mentally prepared for the grueling task of diplomacy that now lie before him. There was perhaps nothing in the entirety of the galaxy that Arlan hated worse than trying to play the part of the negotiator.

"Yes sir, prepping and escort to await Captain Erastus." The voice responded a final time before the comms fell silent in lieu of their guest's arrival.
