Name: Caprine

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Iktotch, the third moon of Iktotchon.

Language: Caprinese, Iktochese, Galactic Basic

Average height of adults: 1.8 meters for female, 2 meters for male

Skin color: Ranges from the reddish hue of the Iktotchi with whom they share the planet, to light colored flesh tones. No Caprine have been sighted with blue or green skin (but that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there).

Hair color and texture: The Caprine hair is strong and rough in texture. Colors include red, flaxen, dark brown and black.

Breathes: Type 1 atmosphere (oxygen)

Strengths:
  • Precognitive ability - Whether Force sensitive or not, all Caprine have the gift of precognition. Like the Iktotchi, the precognitive ability is extremely strong on their native planet. Caprine can see into the future for hours and sometimes days. It's rare for them to see months or years in advance. When off-world, their precognition becomes extremely limited. Glimpses of the future are jumbled, difficult to decipher and often inaccurate. Individuals with very strong precognition are normally treated as mystics by the rest of the Caprine colony or tribe and are consulted for categories important to them like weather, crop yield, love and good fortune. Like the Iktotchi, and only on the planet of Iktotch, the precognitive ability of the Caprine takes the form of visions or dreams and is relatively accurate, needing little interpretation. Likewise, it appeared they were able to control when and how they came about their visions. However, the Caprine are relatively unsophisticated, mostly-herbivore farmers. Their visions are limited to their colony and their surroundings. They could not see into the future of Coruscant (for example). RP note for those writing the Caprine: Please gain permission from fellow writers to use any "forseen" information, much like an infochant would get permission to find out secret information, or a bounty hunter asks a PC for permission to hunt and capture him/her.
  • Muscular build - The Caprine are a sturdy species who enjoy outdoor pursuits, farming, sparring and physical activity.
Weaknesses:
  • Gregarious - These highly sociable sentients enjoy the company of others. If left in isolation, they are vulnerable to extreme melancholy and severe depression.
  • Unsophisticated - This nature-loving species, is rough around the edges, and their manners are said to be obsolete. They favor merry-making at the expense of decorum. Only the most educated and erudite Carpine's understand that most species eat with utensils, but it's rare to witness any Caprine who adhere to any type of social formalities (but despite this flaw, they are fun at parties)
  • Poor hearing - Caprine have substandard hearing which is only worsened by living in the remote cliffs of Iktotch, where the high wind damages their ear drums. Not many Caprine are born away from Iktotch, but even those that are, have hearing difficulties.
Distinctions: While Caprine have goat-like horns and ears, their bodies are humanoid in form. Their epidermis is covered in an extremely fine fur which offsets the toughness of their skin. Horn length is in direct correlation to age, so the longer the horns, the older the Caprine is. When a Caprine dies its horns are sacred and used to make everything from weapons to chalices to jewelry to be kept by the family of the deceased and worn or used in their memory. Occasionally, a Caprine has more than one set of horns, but while this can be chalked up to a genetic defect rather than an evolutionary trait, Caprine with extra horns are revered and said to be closer in spirit to the goddess Ax'no. Unlike the Iktotchi, a Caprine’s horns will not regenerate if damaged.

Average Lifespan: 80 to 90 years

Races: Caprine can be broken down into three races, characterized by a variation in horn width, length and texture:
  • Asti: are smaller in stature and have smooth horns which point upward
  • Nur: have horns which are more wide set on the side of their heads
  • Balae: have ram-like horns which curl and sometimes spiral downward
Estimated Population: 8 million on Iktotch, 700,000 throughout the galaxy.

Diet: Caprine are omnivores, but they favor an herbivore diet. They are “resource defenders” meaning that they will stake out a claim on territory rich in food and water and stay there to farm, raise fowl, and occasionally hunt. They are extremely territorial when it comes to these resources and are likely to try and run scavengers off than barter or trade.

Communication: Caprine communicate verbally, although through sparring and dancing, they can also communicate various emotions. Through interbreeding they retain the precognitive ability of the Iktotchi, but not telepathy.

Culture: The Caprine is a matriarchal culture where the female of the species is looked upon as the decision maker and held in high regard. Akin to humanoid cultures like Dathomirians and Hapans, female Caprines hold positions of power in politics, economics and business. Unlike some matriarchal cultures, the males of the species are not subjugated and are venerated and beloved by female Caprine.

In line with their matriarchal ideals, the Caprine worship a goddess called Ax’no, who is a harvest deity. Since the Iktoch landscape is rocky, windy and unforgiving, a bountiful harvest is very important to the Caprine. They attribute most everything in their lives to Ax’no, including their precognitive ability, a strong yield of crops, mild weather, fertility and good luck. The Caprine celebrate Ax’no with a yearly festival featuring music, songs, dancing, masks and horn sparring.

The Caprine’s relationship to the Force is complicated. While some Caprine eschew it outright in favor of a simple, peasant life, others believe that the Living Force originates from Ax’no. Because of their benevolent and gregarious nature, as well as their fear of isolation, it’s rare that Caprine fall victim to the darkside of the Force. If that happens, it tends to be within a small group of Caprine who hide their dark pursuits in cult-like secrecy.

Technology level: Caprine are essentially tribal and primitive, but those that want to learn to be pilots, smugglers, slicers and Jedi are free to do so. While they don’t encourage techo-sophistication among their population, thought-leaders of the Caprine will not go out of their way to discourage it. Caprine schools typically focus on survival, farming and worship, but those who show an aptitude for other paths are encouraged to move off-world (most actually don't for fear of isolation). The Caprine will normally have one or two buildings in their colony devoted to galactic standard-issue technology for research, defense and contact with the outside world, but on a whole the normal population just isn't interested in it.

General behavior: Staying true to their social nature and their tendency to hoard and defend their resources, they will normally stay in one place, either on Iktotch or in a colony they’ve established on another planet. Therefore, the Caprine are not a generally nomadic species. Due to their matriarchal leaning, the female Caprine tend to be chieftains, leaders and mystics, while male caprines are valued for their ability to build, forage, hunt. Male Caprine are also considered entertainment for the female through horn sparring, dance and revelry. Elder males with both horns still intact are viewed as strong and virile by females. Missing or damaged horns are a sign that a male has been beaten too many times in the elaborate sparring tournaments. Female Caprine do not spar with their horns, but are by no means weak and unaccustomed to battle. However both sexes are seen as equal, however prescribed their gender roles are, and while it’s rare for a male to be the chieftain of a Caprine colony, it’s not unheard of.

History: The Caprine were discovered in remote cliffs on Iktotch sometime around 4000 BBY to 3500 BBY, but due to their peaceful nature and their stubbornness to adapt to technology, they were viewed as non-essential, primitive beings and left alone for the most part. This all changed when around 1,000 BBY, a chieftain named Ayomi, who thought she was the living embodiment of Ax’no, urged the Caprine to interbreed with the Iktotchi in order to gain, not only the precognitive ability they already had, but in hopes of becoming telepathic as well. This experiment failed as Iktotchi genetics proved extremely hearty, and the Caprine were nearly wiped out as a species. To this day there aren’t many pureblood Caprine left, though tribal elders have eased up on marriage and breeding restrictions in more modern times.

Intent:
To expand upon the lore of Iktotch by creating another species which came from the same caprinean ancestors as the Iktotchi, as well as creating a unique species in the Star Wars universe that other players can RP and interact with.

To what extent? Few seconds? Minutes? Hours? Days?

I might not put this as a weakness, perhaps as a trait. If you would like this as a weakness, add another one since I wouldn't consider this one.

Occasionally a Caprine has more than one set of horns, but this is considered more of a genetic defect than a benefit, although the extra horns do not seem to impair the Caprine.
Does these affect them, socially?

Bump this up a bit

Add a few more sentences to this.

What makes the precognition so strong on their planet? Also, all of them having it is a bit powerful, knock this down to around 20-35 percent.

I will ask for one more weakness as the ones you have aren't very harmful.

The Caprine are related to the Iktotchi who also have the gift of precognition. On Wookiepedia it states:

Thus when the explorers of the Old Republic discovered the Iktotchi civilization, some time approximately between 4000 BBY[1] to 3500 BBY, they were extremely surprised to see that these beings had already prepared for their arrival for several weeks. The Iktotchi had carved the symbol of the Republic into their world's surface.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Iktotchi/Legends

So based on this there is a canon precedence that a Caprine could see days into the future.

Edit: Am I required to add a weakness that's harmful to the species? A weakness can be a character flaw - it doesn't necessarily need to cause physical harm to the species. The ones I have listed will certainly cause emotional harm.

Yah, one more solid weakness would be good. I don't know what you mean by 'harmful' all weaknesses are supposed to be harmful or damaging to a species.

I added another weakness (also edited in sub):
  • Poor hearing - Caprine have substandard hearing which is only worsened by living in the remote cliffs of Iktotch, where the high wind damages their ear drums. Not many Caprine are born away from Iktotch, but even those that are, have hearing difficulties.
Thanks!

I like what you've done here. I did however want two clarifications on the precognition.

  • How accurate is it? Are we talking visions which need interpretations or clear, controlled future sense?
  • How controllable is it? Can they focus their minds to see the future ahead? Or does it happen only at random times?

The other potential issue I see is how this might play out in RPs. RPs, by definition, rarely have a set future, so I am concerned this may be used as a way to dodge hits unfairly or come up with plot revelations. An example being being able to warn someone that another writer is secretly plotting against them by vision meta-gaming.

I would value your input here.

Wookiepedia is not too specific with details relating to the Iktotchi precognitive abilities, but the best example of a "visionary" would be Darth Cognus. However, it is clear that Cognus's ability was unusual:

The Huntress, as she was called, was a Force-sensitive female Iktotchi who, like all members of her species, possessed a natural talent with precognition and telepathy. Her abilities far exceeded those of her kinsmen, and with time she learned to focus and control her visions with great precision.

Source: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Cognus

So I imagine the Caprine (who are related to the Iktotchi) would be nowhere near as powerful as Darth Cognus who was said to be able to "perceive and influence the future."

To directly answer your question, Wookiepedia does state that, at least on Iktotch, the precognitive ability of the Iktotchi took the form of visions or dreams and was relatively accurate, needing little interpretation. Likewise, it appeared they were able to control when and how they came about their visions.

However, in terms of the Caprine and their approach to precognition, given that they relatively unsophisticated, mostly-herbivore farmers, I have no problem limiting their precognitive ability on Iktotch to visions that will affect only their colony and their surroundings. They wouldn't be able to see far off visions on Coruscant, for example. They would be consulted as Mystics for categories important to them like weather, crop yield, love and good fortune.

In terms of RPing the precognition with others and PC storylines, I would get permission from another writer to use any "forseen" information, much like an infochant would get permission to find out secret information or a bounty hunter asks a PC for permission to hunt and capture him/her.

I hope this insight helps. Let me know if there's anything I need to add to the submission based on the above.
