Can't Make a Joke Out of Beskar

It was traditional and highly required by the Resol'nare that each Mandalorian would have his or her own beskar'gam, no matter what area of expertise that Mando'ade had. Most Mandalorians would have their own custom made armor with the iron that you could only get at Concordia, a moon orbiting around the planet that was the birthplace of the idea and culture of the Mandalorians, known as Mandalore. This iron was valuable to everyone in the galaxy for it had a special feature about it, and that was the ability of resisting against lightsabers.

Everyone in the vode had the right and access to obtain this precious ore because they were using it for their armor, ships, and other factors that benefited everyone in the vode. Today, a mining operation would take place at Concordia with mining droids and other mining tools and equipment to extract the beskar. This would be for the beskar'gam of Vilaz's older brother and head of the clan, and it would be for a future project that would come sooner or later.

With the mining facilities and bases on the moon and the fancy equipment that Mandal Hypernautics made it would be quick and easy to extract and obtain the Mandalorian Iron from the caverns.

A AT-MP walker then stomped on the terrain of the moon and it began heading to a cavern that contained the Mandalorian Iron that was being mined by droids, walkers, and other mining equipment that was made from the company, Mandal Hypernautics. The walker that was approaching the mining cavern was rented by a Mando'ade known as Vilaz Munin so it could extract the precious metal for the armor of his older brother.

The mining operation would be a quick success due to the fact that a vehicle would be performing all the labor that it would need to obtain the amount that was needed to make the beskar'gam, unlike droids and organic beings that took more time to extract the ore and it also required more labor to mine the iron from caverns of Concordia.

After the walker walked inside the caverns of the moon orbiting around Mandalore it had found itself a promising location that contained a loot of precious Beskar within its rocky walls. The walker then prepared and activated its hyper drill, and the machine then struck its drill at the wall containing the lightsaber resistance iron, and it began to make a hole into the wall of the cavern.

Pounds and pieces of Beskar began coming out of the wall and was now spilling over on the ground where the walker was. It continued to drill despite of having a lot of Beskar coming out of the wall, for it didn't know if it was enough what it already drilled or not. After less than or equal to five minutes of drilling into the wall of the cavern the pilot inside the machine commanded the walker to stop drilling into the wall terrain of the moon, as it seemed that the Beskar that they extracted was a lot than they had previously needed. As the pilot completed one step of the project for Verne's beskar'gam it was now time to transport the iron out of Concordia and to the planet Mandalore.

Mining droids that were called Ogre mining droids began to pick up pounds of Beskar and would began transporting the iron on their synthetic feet towards the entrance where the walker entered the cavern and would soon put the precious cargo onto a Shantual cargo shuttle.

A dozen of droids holding and carrying Beskar began to file towards and out of the cavern that they had extracted the Mandalorian Iron, and began putting it into a shuttle. As soon as all the cargo was inside the ship it would leave from the satellite and would head towards Mandalore. Once it would land on the planet it would be given in the hands of a Beskar smith who would construct the remaining of the armor.

A cargo ship containing extracted beskar from Concordia had recently took off and made a course towards the planet it orbits, Mandalore. Now that the ingredients to the future made beskar'gam were brought and acquired a beskar smith was the only thing left in order to complete the recipe of the armor. The cargo ship flew into quiet space as it headed towards the atmosphere of Mandalore and would soon land somewhere on the planet, and would give all the materials to a beskar smith and have him or her do the rest of the remaining work.

After flying through empty space the shuttle had entered through the atmosphere of Mandalore and made a new course to a well known beskar smith that was brother to force user Mandalorian who was also known after he stepped up and fought for the helm of Mand'alor just recently. The Kandossiis.

In the courtyard of the complex housing both Beaskar'ad Inc and the members of the group Kal stood leaning against a tree in beige pants and white long sleeve shirt. The sleeves were rolled up revealing muscular forearms that had been strengthened over the course of many years of wielding the hammer. Small scars from embers and metal having popped from fire and pounded metal layered his skin like a map of projects past.

Hands rubbed together as he squinted up to the sky where a ship was incoming. No alarm had rang from the building so he assumed it was a friendly transponder. Recently they had picked up quite a few jobs for specialized armor and weaponry and Kal figured this was another. Pushing from the tree he headed to a clearing where several ships already sat to greet his guest and find out what business opportunity would be his today.

Approaching the complex building of Beskar'ad Incorporated, a company that was currently owned and run by a member of the Kandossii clan, was the transport shuttle that contained the beskar that was previously extracted from the orbiting moon, Concordia. It began to descend to the landing zone that was meant for transport ships, cargo shuttles, and other ships that belonged to customers and employees.

After a dew moments of being in the air the thump of the shuttle came which was the cue of that the cargo ship had just landed on the ground, and the hiss of the entrance or exit of the shuttle. A figure appeared out of the shuttle who was the architect of this project, a Rally Master by the name of Vilaz Munin. Behind him were mining droids who were carrying amounts of the Mandalorian Metal. On the opposite of Vilaz was a lone man who was approaching them, and, no doubt, would ask what he could help him.

"Howdy, vod," the Redneck greeted to the man in the usual way he almost greeted to members of the vode.

A smirk crossed his face as he walked forward to greet the rally master. Hand gripped forearm in the traditional grip of their people. "Su cuy. I see your not here for take out. Probably for the best I only know one thing to use an oven for." His eyes watched the droids with their loads, calculating the amount of ore.

"So I'm Kal Kandossii. And what is your request on this fine afternoon?" Looking back to the mando he took in the vod with an appraising eye. Kal was used to looking at metal and seeing the impurities and strengths. For him it was no difficult thing to do the same to a man. Here stood one strong, proud even. But as a weapon is forged through fires and pounding of hammer so too did this one have the bearing of one tempered in battle. Kal liked him immediately.

His hand gripped the forearm of the smith as they both greeted each other. "Vilaz Munin," as the two men exchanged names with each other. So this was the brother of Atin who stepped up to challenge for the helm of Mand'alor. To the Rally Master's eyes he could easily acknowledge that this man was a strong warrior due to the muscles of his arm and the forearm that he gripped on when they saluted each other. The perfect man for the job.

"I hear that you're a beskar smith which is what I need. And you seem to be the right man to get 'er done. I need your strength and guts to make me some armor for my brother." He had given him his order, and now he would wait for the strong smith warrior to create a tough and strong beskar'gam for Verne.

With a nod he turned motioning Munin to follow down through the door and slope. Pointing as he walked Kal spoke. “We have refreshments, beds, beer for you to partake of vod. You can also look over us as we work.” Continuing along he made way straight for his work station and pulled up the recently transmitted schematics.

Looking over the dimensions of the man to whom the armor would belong he nodded as he made a few calculations in his mind and on a stylus. Grunting to himself nearly unintelligible words fell from moving lips as the other three members of Beskad Inc. came over.

Teroch a dark silent man pointed at the amount of beskar needed getting Kal’s attention. Nodding Kal clapped Teroch on the shoulder. “Then we make it ourselves Ter’ika. He brought enough material. Let us begin.” The four mandos nodded and got to work.

Without need for commands they broke off in separate directions having worked alongside each other for so long that they intimately knew the other’s thoughts. Kal waited by the station, stylus flicking the hologram here and there as he made improvements and changed minute details.

Meanwhile Teroch went into thee store room and returned shortly with a clay tub twelve foot long and four tall and wide trailing behind on a repulsor lift. With Kal’s help they wrestled it into position over one of their fires.

Haran and Aayla retrieved several loads of the unrefined beskar ore and began shifting through it. Piling ore into the tub Aayla went to a secondary store room and returned with ciridium on a repulsor sled. Slowly Kal directed the others as the ore wa placed into the tub, shavings of the ciridium placed within. As the tub began to heat Haran fell back to monitor the heat output keeping it within the range of where it needed to be.

As the mixture heated and condensed with each other Aayla and Teroch took either side and, with great beskar paddles, turned the smelting iron within. Every ten minutes Kal added more ore and shavings watching and checking with a practiced eye.

The minutes turned to hours as the crew traded off to spell one another on the paddles. A droid brought nourishments to the one regulating the heat as Kal took his turn at the paddles, but always he was the one to add the mixture every ten minutes.

Sweat ran and stained leather. Salt dried on skin. Muscles ached and tendons popped. And still they labored as a day slipped by with the four seemingly in a trance as they worked with speaking few words. The second day came and the fourth man began to rest for two hours, rotating, always rotating. Save Kal. He was a man possessed as he always was. Once begun he always stayed with the tub being in constant control of the ore.

The third day dawned and Kal paused as he watched the beskar within. Raising a hand that ceased the flipping a word roused Aayla and the four of them slid the tub to the side. Taking a sledge hammer Kal shattered the tub and looked at the large ingot of beskar. A small smile crossed his face as he began hammering the ingot, chipping off large portions as the other three arranged the pieces in piles according to color and the constant readings on their sensors that hovered over them.

Finally Kal motioned for them to hit the sack and get some rest. Soon they would rise and begin their work anew.

A full sleep cycle later and Kal rose from hs bunk to head for the refresher unit to wash his body and soak in the heated spray to loosen his limbs. Done he exited clothed in a clean but stained jumpsuit while toweling his hair dry. The other three had roused and were moving slowly. “Okay vode, time to get clean, get some caf in you, some food, and hit the forge.” A smirk as he tossed the towel at Haran who was mid yawn.

Walking to his work station he pulled up the schematics and tinkered more with the design until the other three came in. Haran set a plate with a sandwich before Kal who absently palmed the food and took a few bites.

Swallowing quickly he demolished the food then turned to lean against the table. “We have some folding to do, so let’s get to work.” Each went to the beskar piles and collected their amounts before heading to their respective forges. Laying out several shards under the fire he let them heat. Pulling on his leather gloves and aprons he grabbed the metal with his tongs and with his right hand holding a heavy hammer h began flattening the metal.

Each swing was carefully calculated to spread the plate and stretch it out thinning it. Then holding it on it’s side he tapped it down in a fold and placed it back on the heat to warm the metal just enough to make it a bit more pliable. Then taking it out with the tongs he worked it out again.

Slowly and methodically he worked folding and hammering. The room echoed with the ring of hammer on metal as the four of them mirrored one another in folding and hammering over and over til each was nearly folded twenty times. The pieces were set aside as they began the process anew working on more plates of beskar with a passion and dedication that spoke of their experience, commitment, and joy for this work, the creation of a beskar’gam for a vod.

Kal nodded at his people as they placed the last pile of plates together. The four stood around as he smiled at them. “Okay vode. Let’s start that armor in earnest.” Each collected a pile and headed to their respective forges.

Kal slid on his leather gloves and began. Taking the tongs he collected a plate and laid it in the coals allowing the plate to warm enough to become pliable. Removing it with the tongs he began hammering. As he worked the metal he leveled out the metal making it uniform in width.

Into the fire to warm then out as the hammer rang against the beskar. Hammer then into the coals. Then hammer and into the coals. After many many rounds he pulled up the holoprojector and over laid an image onto the plate. Seeing where he needed to work on it back the plate went to the coals. Pulling it out once more he held it on an end and hammered the edge to take the sharpness off and round the edge so it would not cut into the under suit of Vilaz’s brother.

Continuing he worked the plate slowly rotating the plate and taking off the sharp edge until it was finally complete. Then looking at the schematic he began working the plate that happened to be for the upper left torso. Slowly he curved the plate just enough to conform it to the body of the vod. Tapping it lightly now he worked the beskar until finally he was satisfied.

Placing it into a high density field he heated the plate thoroughly. Once it glowed aa faint crimson and checking the temperature readings on his work station he nodded silently and placed it from one densty field to another. In this second field it chilled quickly as a mist of molecules began to bond to the cooling plate. Within a minute it was chilled and he pulled the plate out and set it on the workstation.

Removing his gloves he grabbed several sensors and ran it over the plate checking to ensure that there were no stress points, the plate was even to the smallest fraction, that the molecular composition was correct for the hardiest beskar, and that the laminate misted on was not surface laminate but rather integrated into the metal itself.

Satisfied he placed it on a separate tray and took another plate to work. Behind him the other three making up Beskar’ad Inc.’s employees placed their own finished plated on the tray and went back to their stations to continuing working. Hours stretched out before them as the finished armor set was completed.

Finally Kal laid the last piece on and called out to Vilaz. “Your brother’s armor is finished. Now we will work on the buy’ce and gauntlets. You can look these over and test them however you want. We will break for the night then begin anew in the morning.”

Kal stood and turned as the other three members of Beskar'ad entered from their rooms and onto the work floor. Teroch gave him that silent stare that spoke volumes. Waving a hand Kal turned away and back to his station. "Yes I got some sleep and no I didn't wake you because I was tinkering with the designs for the gauntlets. I've looked into our vod we are building the suit or and I think I have a few ideas that will come in handy. You three work on the buy'ce. I'll be doing the upgrades on the gauntlets."

As the other three headed to their work tables Kal got to work. Removing two armor weave sleeves already woven he placed them on his work table and began running thin wires of woven beskar along it and connecting it to the armor weave sleeves. Each inch of thin beskar cord corresponded to a tendon, ligament, or muscle in the hands, forearms, and upper arms.

Next he opened a container of nonotech spider droids that skittered over the armor weave sleeves and beskar wires weaving nigh invisible lines of beskar thread from corded line to armor weave. As the small droids worked Kal sprayed a liquid beskar compound to the armor weave. Finishing his work on the armor weave sleeves he recalled the droids and placed the armor weave sleeves into an electrified field and altered the polarity or the metal while imbuing the sleeves with a type of static charge.

Pulling the sleeves free he slid them on and felt the slight ionization as the hairs of his arms stood. The armor weave sleeves interacted with the electrical charge output from the body and he felt the molecules of the beskar react to the energy from his body's electrical field feeding into the sleeves. Flexing his hands and arms he felt the power and double checked the readings coming from his table.

Nodding he slipped them of and spoke to where he had seen Vilaz standing moments before. "One of the alterations was with the crushgaunts. Most are for the hands and some incorporate the wrist. As from what I read of your brother he is a grappler and fighter I built on the design. The typical strength credited to crushgaunt gloves have here been built into arm sleeves so that whatever he does with his hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, and biceps the strength of his arms will be multiplied many many times over as he will have crusharms."

Turning back to his station he began to continue the work on the gauntlets.

Holding the gauntlets Kal turned them over and over as he thought of different ideas. Clamping them down he got to work. First he added several small power cells under the plating of the gauntlet. Once thy were secured he ran the power cables along the interior of the gauntlet. Finishing replacing the plates he moved to the next step.

On either side of the wrist armor plates were added with a spring ejector. Pressing the release the two bars flipped up and out to wrap around the knuckles of the gauntlets. Kal grinned. "Beskar knuckles. And with a twist of the wrist ..." Twisting the gauntlet slightly an arc of electricity flowed over the beskar knuckles. "Stun gauntlets." Twisting the wrist again the electricity ceased and then he deactivated the beskar knuckles.

Moving on he then began to install very small repulsors into the gauntlet. Following a schematic for GenoHaradan power gloves he used the miniature repulsor fields that would activate and enhance the strength of the wearer, who in this case would have already been enhanced due to the crushgaunts. Deactivating the power gloves Kal moved to the knuckle plate where he installed a retractable vibroblade in both gauntlets.

Seeing how the glove already had the repulsors built into the gauntlet Kal used the existing technology for techniques commonly found with a repulse hand, able to generate fields to repulse melee weapons, projectiles, and bodies with varying levels of destruction. Tinkering with the generators he changed to polarity so that the repulsors could attract objects if the gauntlet was pointed at a particular object.

Finally Kal installed a missile launcher capable of firing different types of explosives with a payload of five rounds/missiles along the exterior of the forearm while on the interior was mounted a lame thrower with a twenty second compressed flame. Placing the sleeves of fiber weave inside the gauntlets Kal set the finished product next to the newly finished buy'ce and waited Vilaz's inspection.
