OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Calabiyau
  • Classification: Refugee City
  • Location: Chaldea
  • Affiliation: Chaldean Potentium
  • Population: Heavy
  • Demographics: Heavily made up of refugees from the Scar Worlds and Unknown Regions, as well as some Chaldean natives.
  • Wealth: Medium; the majority of the current population consists of refugees from distant worlds, many of whom have lost all their belongings, property, and wealth due to war and destruction. The Chaldean government provides some social services and programs mainly aimed at encouraging the economic growth and independence of new citizens. The city is not yet thriving economically, but it is fairly stable.
  • Stability: Medium; crime is generally low, but far from nonexistent. It largely depends on the area, with poorer slums often having higher crime rates than more upscale neighborhoods.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Since this is Chaldea, there is a certain amount of friction between natives and offworlders, with the former expecting the immigrant population to follow Chaldean laws and the latter accusing the ruling theocracy of violating their freedoms. This is especially prominent where Force User traditions are concerned, as use of the Force is largely prohibited. Only a small fraction of the galactic population is Force Sensitive, however, and most know to stay away from Chaldea due to their anti-FU policies.
  • Description: Calabiyau is a coastal city that was recently abandoned, and even more recently turned into a refugee settlement. Compared to other settlements designed to house refugees, it is practically luxurious - a white stone city full of fantastical architecture designed to coexist with the natural landscape.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Calabiyau, Refugee City - Recently refurbished and opened to offworlder refugees, the formerly abandoned coastal city of Calabiyau is now a thriving urban settlement.
  • Wild Horses - The area around the city of Calabiyau is populated by wild horses known for their hardiness. Once a year foals are culled from the herd and sold to avoid overpopulation; otherwise they are left alone. Locals and tourists are discouraged from interfering with them, but there are frequent cases of people being bitten or kicked when they draw too close to these wild animals.
  • Monastery of Tania Bayern - The monastery is located on a tidal island off the coast of the city. It houses an order of Chaldean Potentiate monks, most of whom are retired Mystics and Paladins.

SECURITY
Medium
; considered average by Chaldean standards. There is a local police force as well as other emergency services. Chaldea has no official military, therefore there is no official military presence. As with all major Chaldean locations, Force Users are likely to be apprehended and/or detained by Mystics or Paladins if they openly flaunt their abilities.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Built roughly four hundred years ago, the city of Calabiyau was founded as a religious retreat for devout disciples of the Potentium. Over time, it became something of a tourist town, as its scenic architecture attracted admirers from across the galaxy. It became a victim of the mass exodus from Chaldea following the planet's bloody Civil War. Within less than twenty years, Calabiyau's population had decreased to the point where it was considered abandoned.

Because of this, it drew the attention of Ishani Sibwarra, former Senator of Chaldea, who was looking for a location to set up a new refugee city at the suggestion of Alicio Organa of Alderaan. Calabiyau's unique look and relatively intact facilities and infrastructure were easy and cheap to refurbish, and the city was promptly opened up as housing for displaced offworlders.
