- Variable ammo types
- Rifle itself is completely silent
- Option to fire at subsonic velocity, eliminating supersonic "crack" of projectiles in exchange for reduced stopping power.

Due to the C-31 being a coil gun, the firing of the weapon itself is almost silent. However this does not extend to the projectile itself, which typically produces an audible cracking sound when breaking the local sound barrier. With the toggle of a thumb switch however, the rifle can be set to fire at a preselected reduced velocity for quieter firing. An assortment of standard accessory rails allow for a near limitless combination of third party attachments, including standard military undermounted grenade launchers.
Three standardized types of ammunition are produced to accompany the C-31. The most common of these is the Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) round, which provides average performance against standard targets, it consists of a tungsten mass with durasteel jacketing a copper, hollow tip. In support of this round are a pair of specialized ammo types, the Armor Piercing (AP) and Soft Hollow Point (SHP) rounds. The AP round is solid tungsten and tipped to a sharp point unlike the other two rounds, to focus impact energy tightly to pierce hard materials more effectively. The SHP round is similar to the JHP round with the exception that the hollow point is full sized, made of softer lead, and not jacketed in durasteel for maximum expansion.
Strengths:
- Variable Ammo Type
- Modular
- Optional Silent Firing
- Slightly lower effective range (as compared to standard 300 meter range)
- Ammo is very focused, a AP round has very poor ballistic performance against soft targets due to virtually no projectile expansion. Lead tipped HP rounds expand too much, offering quite poor armor penetration. JHP rounds serve as something of a jack-of-all-trades, but offer slightly less than standard results compared to a standard blaster bolt.
From the outside, the R-31 appears to be a standard military style assault weapon. While designed for a similar function, the weapon is in fact a slugthrower, designed to prevent too much sacrifice in terms of effectiveness when compared to a traditional military blaster. This weapon is a simple, modular system for those that need to be quiet or may find themselves on the wrong end of a lightsaber on occasion.
