Private ...Bygones Be Bygones?

"There's always a first time." he warned her but his words fell on deaf ears. Her hand reached for the inside of his jacket. Oh, she knew him too well.

Too damn well, he thought.

Dagon's reply was straightforward. He lunged from the ledge landing right in front of her, his hand snapped quickly to snatch her wrist pulling it up and drawing both intimately close.

"You're not doing this, Lyra." he stared deep into the green of her eyes. "We can solve it ourselves."

With no serious brushes with the Dark side she was naïve to many of its effects on a person outside of what she had experienced. She knew it was not something to be trifled with but she did not heed his warning, at least not until she was forced to.

She gasped as her wrist was pulled away from her and her eyes immediately fell on the cause with a frown. "We can save time and maybe even lives if this isn't an isolated case." She defiantly continued to argue her case but doubted he would relent so she took a more emotive tone which was lined with frustration.

"You don't tell me what to do." She paused. "Not anymore."

It was convenient for him to be so self-righteous now. If only it had stopped him from breaking her heart in the first place.

While at another time she might have been more inclined to listen to him, out of not wanting to upset him, now she was much more emotionally charged and much less reasonable.

"Wait what--" he frowned in surprise, his hand slightly loosening the grasp of her wrist, "--when did I tell you what to do?" he shook his head, "Nevermind. Let go of it, Lyra. It's not worth it, trust me...I've been there." twice he had stumbled into the dark side, spurred by the corruptive presence of his father which was purged during the Battle of Krayiss II.

"It cost me the bond with a person close to me." things would never be the same between Kaska and him, that he knew, but perhaps he should've known sharing that piece of information with Lyra out of all people was less than tactful.

Feeling the grip on her loosen, her features softened from the frown but she remained holding onto the bagged hilt. His emotive speech reminded her how they had once both been vulnerable with each other to open up like they once did and now they held all the memories of lovers but with the attachment of friends. Such memories were held much closer to only one heart.

"Fine. Take it." She relented with a sigh, loosening her grip on the hilt.

She felt a pang of jealousy at the mention of another person but her expression showed no such emotion. Instead, she tried to pull her wrist free so she could walk away.

She averted his gaze, any moment of perceived romance between them had faded and she just wanted to be released.

Not anymore.

Her words still rang in his head.

Lyra relented her hold and he secured the bagged hilt, but it was her averted gaze he followed and perhaps foolishly inquired about.

"Was this all about..." he arched an eyebrow, features softening, "...what happened between us?"

His words caused her to pause as she turned away. "What happened between us?" She repeated. They had not spoken so plainly about what had happened between them and now it seemed unavoidable. Whether that was a good thing or not was to be determined but on the current high of emotions she was on it was edging towards the latter.

She turned back to him, her expression one of sorrow but it turned to anger as she spoke. "What happened between us, Dagon?" She asked, incredulously. "You mean what happened with you." She jabbed an accusatory finger towards his chest.

Oh, brother... why did I ask?

His mouth slowly drew open in surprise when it shouldn't have; Dagon knew exactly what reaction he'd conjure from her with that question. Truly, often he found his mouth blabbering before his brain could react and shut it.

And now he was left without words.

"Look, I'm sorry--"

"You don't get to be sorry now. If you were sorry you would've reached out to me. You're only saying you're sorry now because you're facing the consequences." She told him, her anger slipping into sadness.

He's still a good person. He just made some bad choices. She told herself.

She sighed, frustrated with him, with the situation. "You knew what you were getting into and you dragged me along." She told him, searching his gaze for any sincere remorse.

You made me fall in love with you.

He frowned at the mention of consequences; for all his errors, mistakes and misconceptions, Dagon always stood first to take personal responsibility. At least, that had always been the intent.

Apparently the outcome had been different.

The frown abated, replaced by a calmer, apologetic tone, “I was in a rough spot, Lyra — and before you interrupt me — I know it doesn’t excuse me for leading you on.”

“For what it’s worth it was never my intention to do so.” Dagon said genuinely. “But I don’t regret it—our relationship, I mean.” don’t I? “We did have a good time.” whoa, calm your pants, Dag.

Her expressions softened as his tone did. It was easy to argue with someone who hit back but it didn't feel right to berate him when his own words seemed to be laced with remorse. She began to calm down, her breathing steadying.

She knew him on a personal level and she thought she knew him well enough given the closeness and intensity of their relationship but such familiarity did not grant her comprehending his explanation.

It hadn't been his intention but he must have known what would happen. Was he really that oblivious? She thought to herself.

"I know and I'm sorry you suffered but when you cause someone else to suffer as a result... then that is where my sympathy stops."
Her brows drew together slightly in a frown but it dissipated soon after.

If he didn't regret it then would he do it again?

"Yeah..." She replied idly while her mind was flooded with memories from the past. Not too long ago she had been standing in front of him, not much closer than they were now, lips pressed together and nothing else mattered.

Now for this short moment it felt like nothing else mattered again but for all the wrong reasons.

She snapped out of it. "Is that all I was to you? A good time?"

He opened his mouth to reply but stopped himself short of a raspy note, followed by a long sigh.

“We’re really gonna talk about this now, Lyra?” the sleepless nights were catching up to him and her stubbornness wasn’t helping.

She had been more than just a good time but short of true love. What feelings he’d had for her were of passion, desire and even need. He was never ill-intented, but sometimes he thought less with his brain and more with uh, something else.

He was right. This truly was an inappropriate time but yet again her feelings had gotten the better of her.

But he avoided her question.

She narrowed her eyes before her shoulders loosened and she sighed, giving in - for now.

"I know. I'm sorry. Some things are more important today." She replied. "I should know." She broke eye contact and looked over her shoulder at the crime scene they were in the middle of with a sadness.

Unexpectedly, a small glistening between some floorboards as the soft sunlight streaming through the windows reflected off of the small object that caught her attention for a moment. Curiously, she approached the item and crouched down beside it.

She reached down and put her fingers between the gap as much as she could to grasp the object that had gotten wedged between. Once she managed to hook her fingers around it she was instantly met with a rush of emotions, firstly fear and anger but then exhilaration.

He breathed out a ball of tension inaudibly when she turned her back on him. Lyra had relented. It's a brief respite and he knows it. He knows her. Sooner or later it's gonna come up again. Why? Because she hadn't moved on. The thought of it draws his lips together in a mulling expression. What's he gonna do then?

The question's thrown at the backburner when she stumbled upon an object Dagon can't discern. Lyra freezes and the Force flares across his senses. Psychometry. Deliberate or not, Dagon strides to her, eyes restless in concern. His hands reach for her arms and clutches her tightly, channeling the Force to break her trance.

"Lyra... Lyra, snap out of it!" he commands.

As her presence in the room was pulled away from her, she found herself in another place. It seemed familiar, in a dream-like way. She was not trapped, able to draw away from the object which was projecting the visions onto her, but instead she chose to keep hold of the item. The initial psychometry had begun unintentionally but after the electrifying spark of emotion which followed she was spurred on.

The sound of Dagon's voice sounded distant over the more intense crackling of fire which cast a dim glow off the wall of the cave. It didn't feel quite real but then neither did the real world now but with Dagon's help she soon returned to the room they were in with a gasp. She looked down at the ring in between her fingers and quickly dropped it, still feeling the emotions from the tainted memories of its wearer.

"I- I didn't mean to." She said hoarsely. It took another moment to fully adjust to the room again as she anchored herself back to reality and once she did she rose back onto her feet.

"I know where they are." She met his gaze with a blank expression. A glimpse of the vision had given her all she needed to know.

Eyes slightly widened, realizing he'd been holding her for longer than he should've and his arms quickly dropped to his sides. The concern in his tensed posture dissipated, replaced by the importance of the mission.

"Where?" he asked, eyes narrowing.
