Private Building A Dream

She was still staring at her hand and the datapad when Matt simply walked off. Rather taken back by the gesture, Ara got up and popped her head out of the cockpit once more. "You know, you could just hand it to me like a normal person!" she called out with a smirk as she leaned over the edge again. "What else can you do, though? Like, I heard of Jedi crushing stuff with a flick of their hand and flipping ships. Can you do any of that?" she asked him, rather curious about his profession.

She glanced back down to the mess of wires and components then around her to take in the sheer scale of work lying before them like a mountain. She could practically feel the energy being siphoned out of her the longer she looked at it. "Screw this, let's go eat." she quipped as she hoisted herself out of the cockpit, making sure to snatch her datapad before she forgot about it. Walking over to Matt, she took the stabilizer tube from him and tossed it onto the pile before taking hold of his hand and dragging him off towards the kitchen. "Let's make something? Whaddya got? Unlike my mom I can actually make some good food." she assured him with a snicker. Once they were in the kitchen, she raided his fridge to get all the ingredients needed for a rather smashing dagwood... likely something that would make Matt's heart stop quite literally with his focus on his eating habits.

She parked him behind the booth and started to prepare a dagwood for the both of them. In no time at all the two meals were dished up along with some chips on the side and a glass of cola. She sat down across him and immediately started to munch on her chips. "How does the force work, though?" she asked out of the blue. "Like is it just a thing anyone can do or what is it?" she continued after washing down her chips with a sip of cola.

He was still moving to take a seat when she felled the comment on handing the datapad to her like a normal person. He used the moments it took to sit down and look up at her to think of what to say. But he couldn't think of anything but fortunately, she continued asking about what Jedi could do. It was concerning to hear that the first thing she thought of was crushing stuff or causing havoc to ships. "Yeah. But those scenarios are often rather unfortunate. The force can also be used to heal someone who is hurt or to save someone who has fallen off a ledge." he said, trying to highlight the more light aspects of the force.

It was surprising to see her want to go eat while they were working. It was a sudden shift and indicated impatience. On the one hand, it caused Mathieu to worry, on the other, he felt a high degree in trust to Ara. They had grown a strong bond during their relatively brief time together and he felt like she could be trusted.

"Sure, my fridge is yours to raid. Go wild" he said, giving her a friendly smile and helping her grab stuff that was too high to reach. Mathieu looked rather happy when he saw what she was making. Dagwood sandwiches were among the most delicious ones and Ara certainly seemed to know what she was doing. "Looks like I've befriended a pro" he said as she served the food. He sat down and took a big bite from the sandwich.

"That's a big question, Ara. We can go see one of the masters about it someday, if you truly want to know. All I can say is that, it is in all things, everywhere - in the rocks, the ship, the wind that blows through the treetops and in us. As for the rest, I think you'll have to ask the Master." he said as a smile formed on his lips. "But you better eat quick. We're about to drop out of hyperspace soon. Or better yet, bring the plate to the cockpit"

As they ate, Matt gave her some insight on what the Force was. However instead of bright curiosity, he was met with a confused frown and a light headshake from Ara. She kept quiet as he explained with enthusiasm and passion, not wanting to break such a fantastic flow. Though when he finished, she gave him a shrug. "A dude told me the other day that it had something to do with cells in your body and how many of those cells you got in you. Though I also don't understand that, 'cause Vince told me once that cells always kept making more of themselves. Though I don't got a clue how any of that works." she commented on his explanation. He mentioned either eating up or bringing her lunch to the cockpit which was an easy choice for her.

With plate in one hand and cola in the other, she wandered after him towards the cockpit, where she set her glass on the dashboard and relaxed back into her seat. She casually continued to eat her dagwood and chips as he worked on bringing them out of hyperspace. As they dropped out, her glass started to slide off the dashboard, though she quickly stopped it with her foot and pushed it back without looking up from her meal. She glanced at him and quickly swallowed the bite of dagwood she had in her mouth. "By the way, you sounded really down when I asked about what you can do. Isn't the whole idea to use the Force to fight off people who try and cause shit for other people? Like the Sith or whatever other dude who's got an ego on him?" she asked as she slipped a few chips into her mouth.

Glancing at the trees below them, she thought for a few moments. "I think today's been solid." she perked up as she slipped another chip into her mouth. "We got the parts. We got the people to help us build... I think I might get my mom back." she thought aloud as she finished off her dagwood. Glancing down at her plate, she smiled and held it out towards him to finish off her last few chips. "Sucks that you and my mom aren't a thing anymore... but it's also fine. I got a friend and that's what matters most." she finished as she sat back, replacing her finished plate with her glass of cola.

Mathieu let out a short "hmm" as he heard her speak of cells. He looked at her, somewhat puzzled until he finally figured out that she had to be speaking of midi-cholrians. To him, it seemed like a poor way of measuring a persons affinity with the force - especially since there had been so extremely many cases of people who, reportedly, had ludicrously high counts of it in them. "He may have had a point, that guy. But what is the most important is what you have in your heart." he said. "What good is the force if you will use it to do evil?"

Soon, the two of them were in the cockpit. Mathieu was relaxed around the girl - if it had been another person, he would have been anxious that they were going to spill soda all over the controls. It would not put them in life threatening danger but it would be a pain to fix. But the Zabrak, he trusted. Mathieu gave his friend an uncomfortable smile as she asked the question. She could be rash sometimes, but he felt like she had a good head on her shoulders and when they spoke to each other, they often seemed to understand what the other person was saying. "Kinda. I wish everyone could use the force to do good. Make the galaxy better. Protect people from harm, whether it be starvation or and murderer. Sure, sometimes, it might be needed to fight - but at other times, it might be needed to save someone from drowning. Both are just as important." he said, smiling at her softly "And, you know, sometimes, we just need to protect people from ourselves. If we fall from the light."

As they were about to arrive, Ara started speaking of the day and of her mother. Mathieu listened patiently. It was sweet of the teen to offer him her remaining chips and he had seen how much she seemed to enjoy them. Without any intentions on declining her offer, he took two of them before giving her a nod, indicating that she could have the rest. "That would be nice, wouldn't it?"

The next comment made him chuckle. Mathieu brought the ship into the hangar, but before starting with the shut-down procedure, he turned to her with an amused grin "You say that, but you really wouldn't like that. If I was still with Sam, I'd be on your case too. Telling you to brush your teeth, not to stay up for too long or to spend less time with that Mirialan guy cuz 'he's not good for you'" He only listed a few examples of what he might have been doing if he had the role of her parent instead of what was more like her brother. He paused for a few moments and his amused expression turned into that of a soft and tender one instead "You know, all those things that someone who really cares about your well-being and safety would say"

A few moments of silence were allowed to linger in the cockpit. He looked at her, hoping that he had managed to convey the message and that it was well received. And then, a bright smile grew on his lips again "Now unload that hover cart. I'll bring out the cockpit once I'm done here." The three of them would soon be working on building the pod-racer together. But his primary goal would, of course, not be to help with the pod - Sam could do that. Instead, he would try to give them space and only intervene if things seemed to be heating up. Hopefully, this would be a good first step towards a better relation between the two Sheridans.
