Quality: Eight - Heavy Armour
Special Features:
  • Thick Armour
  • Resistant to Kinetic/Energy Weapons (Up to Light Blaster Cannons)
  • Resistant to Exotic/ Primitive/ Vibroweapons
  • No Resistance to Lightsabers
  • Imaging Software, Allows Unimpeded Vison through the Shield.
  • Magnetic Adhesion Grips, Unable to be Detached unless Desired, or Destroyed.
Strengths:
  • Defensive Barrier: While the shield itself is unable to handle lightsabers and the most heavy variants of blaster and projectile weapons, as it is very unlikely such emplacements would be found stationed aboard a starship, the BSS-01 can easily turn away blows that would've slain the soldier bearing the shield with little issue. (NOTE: This Advantage does not include resistance to ammunition specifically designed to puncture starship bulkheads and battle armour.)
Weaknesses:
  • Heavy Weight: Due to the nature of the boarding shield, one's own agility within the confines of a starship, or upon a battlefield centered around close quarters combat, will be severely hampered by shouldering this protective burden. This weakness, however, is easily countered the the introduction of powered armour of energized exoskeletons, as they're designed to specifically carry what the average human could not.
  • No Resistance to Lightsabers: Due to the affordable construction of the seemingly primitive barrier device, the BSS-01 holds no recorded resistant properties to the plasmatic weapons of the Jedi and Sith, and will be torn asunder should they enter into close quarters combat with one another.
Description: Inspired by the scrap piece of metal, that she had torn from the wall of her simulated testing grounds and her limited interaction with the Gungan populace of Naboo, the BSS-01 Combat Rated Boarding Shield was born. The concept behind such a device was unheard of in this era and had taken much convincing to get off the ground when the formative idea was presented. Throughout the history of void-warfare, there has been little-recorded knowledge of a defensive barrier being required - as one's armor was believed to be more than capable to absorb the coming hellfire. However, as Astarii had borne the scars of such ignorance across her face, it was clear that in order to defend the lives of those under her command (And others that weren't.) something more was required. Thus, the BSS-01 had slipped through the theoretical phase and entered the preliminary production stage. In summation, drawing forth ideas from her life's experiences, the idea was simple. Place an additional barrier between her soldier's and the enemy, so they could easily advance within the crowded corridors of a starship and safely establish a foothold. The initial point of contact was where the fighting was undoubtedly going to be the thickest.

In essence, the shield itself was simple. Several sheets of the quadanium alloy welded together and edged with a thicker piece of the same material. From there, it's structural integrity was sundered by high-intensity drills, so that the imaging equipment could be mounted on both sides of the shield. A multitude of cameras was placed on the outer curvature of the barrier, and a small holoprojector was put on the concave surface. The Image that would be projected through the tower shield was then enhanced by a Multi-Frequency Target Acquisition System, removing obstacles from hindering the Soldier's line of vision as they advanced. With the addition of Magnetized Adhesion Grips, it was unlikely that the user would drop their shield in battle due to unsuitable hazards and environments, thus ensuring that if they had the strength to lift the device - it would always be there when required. Finally, due to the significant weight and size of the shield, it was unlikely to be used effectively without the assistance of something that would augment the strength of the Soldier (Based on the standard Human template.) like Bionics, Genetic Augmentations, or Powered Battle Armor. Meaning that the regular soldier would most likely be fighting behind the heavily armored assault units that would be prowling through the decks of an enemy ship, or using them as mobile barricades to assist in repelling any hostile boarders.
